Irish Robbed With The Handball Felt Round The World
2009-11-19 19:21:00
If only sports in the United States were as important to the people of this country as they are around the world.  It's difficult sometimes to understand what goes on outside our little bubble here in Chicago.  We often times ignore anything else that is going on in professional sports in the US unless it effects our fantasy team or we are on a trip to the local sports book.  We get so deeply invested in who's starting at left guard for the Bears on Sunday that our sports universe consists of just the Chicago sports scene.    However while we discuss the Bulls playing the Lakers tonight, the rest of the world is crying foul over a foul.  Not just...

Irish Joy
2009-08-04 21:12:00
I spent last weekend in a country house just outside Dublin, an international gathering hosted by the Irish Sri Chinmoy Centre. As always we were treated like kings and queens, or at least lords and ladies of the manor in this case. The bucolic scenes, the healthful feasts, the air full of sweet green aroma, were all welcome condiments to the staple of meditation, games and singing to which we all look forward at Joy Weekends. Pavitrata Taylor took some very classy photos as always, a larger selection of which you can see at Pavitrata.com. Joy Weekends are an integral part of life as a student Sri Chinmoy; a chance to get together with people from other Sri Chinmoy Centres, to share inspiration and a lot of fun. OTHER JOY WEEKENDS: A Day of Joy in the South of France A Day of Joy in the North of France A Day of Joy in Ireland A Day of Joy in Scotland A Day of Joy in Wales A Day of Joy in England In Celebration of Celebrations

Catholic Church shamed by Irish abuse report
2009-05-21 02:44:00
Catholic Church shamed by Irish abuse report DUBLIN (AP) - After a nine-year investigation, a commission published a damning report Wednesday on decades of rapes, humiliation and beatings at Catholic Church-run reform schools for Ireland’s castaway children. The 2,600-page report painted the most detailed and damning portrait yet of church-administered abuse in a country grown weary of ...

You Could Learn a Thing or Two from the Irish
2009-03-17 02:47:00
Muslims, African-Americans, poor people, homosexuals and other targets of discrimination - listen up. Here’s how you beat bigotry with some style. How many of you are familiar with the story of the Irish? It ain’t about green beer (oh the horror), corned beef and cabbage. What is it about, you ask? What are we celebrating today? Check it. St. Patrick, ’tis himself, was a slave who managed to break free from bondage. Instead of forming a terrorist organization or right-wing talk show on WFLA, he devoted the rest of his life to ending slavery in all its forms. St. Patrick’s battles are similar to the battles his people took on after him and eventually overcame. Between 1641 and 1652, the English killed over half a million Irish and forced another 300,000 into slavery in order to take over the country. Oliver Cromwell’s army and band of thieves completed the occupation and yet, for three hundred years, Irish nationalism grew. It grows even today as the occupat...

Ballymaloe Irish Stew
2009-02-05 10:23:00
This is my third post for Debbie's Souper Sunday This month's theme for a German blog event is "Eintopf" one-pot, which means that all ingredients are cooked in one pot. Crockpots or slow cookers aren't very popular in Germany. You have to order crockpots via internet and there is no cookbook in German. Gabi a German author and food blogger decided to write a book about crockpot cooking in German and asked for recipe testers. I am one of those. Gabi wished for a lamb recipe . I adapted the recipe listed below for the crockpot and that was my submission for the German event. I changed the order of layers, the meat on top and adjusted the cooking times. My three teenaged gentlemen liked the result. Needless to say that I used slow cooked lamb stock. -=========REZKONV-Recipe - RezkonvSuite v1.4Title: Ballymaloe Irish StewCategories: StewYield: 4 to 6 Servings Ingredients 1.35kg Mutton or lamb chops, gigot or rack   -- chops not less than 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick5medium Or 1...
Blog-Event XLII: Eintopf - Slow Cooker Ballymaloe Irish Stew
2009-02-05 10:23:00
Music To My Irish Soul & The 3-Fold Cord
2009-02-01 17:49:00
ז' שבט תשס"טImbolgen 7As I was laying down to sleep last night, one Voice of the Many made itself singularly known. It was the color of music from my new CD Blue Dream which sounded in my ear. It's message was clear - we too blood the cord of my Coven. The Underworld-Faery Tradition of my Celtic-Irish ancestors is also key to my soul, as well as are the Traditions of my Jewish and British/Welsh ancestors. These Voices of my Ancestors have clearly spoken in oath to the Coven - now a Coven of Three Bloods with a threefold cord not easily broken.

Irish Look to Set the Tone for Next Year in Hawaii

Notre Dame may be 6-6 but a lot is still on the line for the Irish when they face Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve. A win and the Irish avoid back-to-back losing seasons for the first time in more than two decades. A win and the infamous bowl losing streak finally comes to an end. Notre Dame, which did not play in a Bowl game last season due to a 3-9 record, has not won a post-season
Friday Headlines/OBD: Irish Up the Coffee Edition
2008-12-12 15:44:00
So you woke up a little grumpy, grouchy, on the wrong side of the bed. You don't want to go to work. You're sick of the city you live in. You thought you were going to get a really GREAT gig in a different city in a different part of the country, but your stupid boss screwed that up for you. And now you're stuck, for the foreseeable future, working for the guy who crushed your dreams and stole your joy. Now you know what it's like to be Jake Peavy. Peavy, who was seen last weekend in Las Vegas singing "Go Cubs Go," was described by our dear friends at BBTN as "hot" about the Cubs trade falling through. And they didn't mean "hot" in the good, sexy way. And it finally appears like the deal really is dead: So Kevin Towers was telling the truth. He really wasn't going to give Jake Peavy to the Cubs. How disappointing. That's essentially why the month-old talks between the Cubs and Padres broke off Thursday, shortly before a dejected Jim Hendry headed to the airport for a flight ...
New Ireland (IRL): Luck of the Irish
2008-12-09 06:00:00
Fund specialist Richard Lehmann (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2628 ) selects an Ireland-focused position -- IRL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=irl)) -- for his recent global spotlight. Here's the latest from The ETF Investor (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2628 )."The decline in stock markets is truly global and correlates with a global economic slowdown. "While China predicts its growth will slow to near 8%, it is a big drop from the 12% annual rate. Markets may be over reacting to the perceived slowdown, but there is no doubt economies will do less well than anticipated last year."Part of the market decline is the de-leveraging of many large funds that have to sell to repay short-term borrowing. Our investment stance at this point is to avoid loss rather than to seek gains."The best international candidate is the New Ireland Fund. The Irish economy has experienced a miracle in growth over the last few years engendered...

Irish Whiskey
2008-08-31 09:05:00

Luck of the Irish: New Ireland (IRL)

"Ireland is attracting global value hunters," says fund expert Carl Delfeld (http://www.chartwelletfadvisor-.com/), of Chartwell ETF Advisor (http://www.chartwelletfadvisor-.com/), who takes a contrarian look at the closed-end New Ireland Fund (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=irl) (NYSE: IRL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=irl))."My ETF pick for the week is in honor of John Templeton not just because of his meeting his final summons this week at age 95 but because it highlights one of the key tenets of his legendary investment career."Templeton's first maxim was to buy at the point of 'maximum pessimism'. IRL trades at a 15% discount to net asset value."Ireland has gone from darling to outcast in less than a year in the eyes of the global investment community. "Rather than look for markets that were performing well, Sir John built a career looking for troubled or ignored markets that traded at attractive valuations."Due to vastly overvalued pro...

Lisbon Treaty - Yes vote just leads in Irish poll.
2008-06-08 17:11:00
From William Hill:Punters & Politicians Left Scratching Their Heads Following Latest Lisbon Treaty PollThe Yes Campaign has a slender 3% lead going into the final few days before Ireland?s referendum on the controversial Lisbon treaty. The latest Red C poll in the Sunday Business Post has the Yes campaign sitting on 42%, the No?s at 39%, and the undecided?s at 19%.Earlier in the week a TNS/mrbi poll indicated that the opponents to the Lisbon treaty had a 5 percentage point lead over those in favour of it.The latest Red C poll has also had an effect on bookmakers betting on the Lisbon Treaty. William Hill now make a YES vote their 2-7 favourite, and offer odds of 5-2 for a NO vote. Prior to today?s poll the bookies had made the No?s 8-11 favourite, however, they were forced to reassess their prices after seeing the Red C Poll.William Hill?s Irish spokesman Tony Kenny commented ?It still looks to close to call? he continued ?We?ve seen a lot of money for both sides of the debate, ...

William Hill - All Irish money on NO to Lisbon Treaty.
2008-06-07 18:06:00
From William Hill:William Hill have dramatically altered their prices on the Lisbon treaty referendum following the latest opinion poll on the controversial EU proposals. The bookmakers previously offered odds of 11-2 for a NO vote, but strong support for the No campaign resulted in Hills cutting those odds to Even money, with a Yes vote now available at 8-11.The latest TNS/MRBI poll gave the No campaign a 5% lead. 35% said they were going to vote NO, 30% YES , 28% were undecided, and 7% said they were not going to vote.William Hill Irish spokesman Tony Kenny commented ?We originally offered odds of 1-10 for a YES vote, but all the money is coming for the NO side? He continued ?Right now the NO campaign seems to have all the momentum, but a week is a long time in politics, and we?re expecting to see a lot more twists and turns before the result is announced next Friday? The Irish referendum takes place on Thursday the 12th June, with the result announced the following day ? the super...
Irish odds on to vote NO in Lisbon Treaty referendum.
2008-06-06 15:42:00
William Hill are giving "even" odds for a YES vote in the Lisbon Treaty referendum. Those of us opposed to the treaty will be glad to hear that the NO vote is "odds on" - 8/11. This could be down to the latest poll held on the Treaty. If you are Irish, please vote NO for us, because we were not allowed a referendum as we would vote against the Treaty.
Irish look set to reject Lisbon Treaty.
2008-06-05 22:47:00
Hat tip to Iain Dale. From the Irish Times:The Lisbon Treaty is heading towards a shock defeat with the No side now in the lead, according to the findings of the latest Irish Times/TNS mrbi poll.It will take an unprecedented swing in the last week of the campaign for the Treaty to be carried. The poll shows the number of people intending to vote No has almost doubled to 35 per cent (up 17 points) since the last poll three weeks ago, while the number of the Yes side has declined to 30 per cent (down 5 points). The number of undecided voters is still a significant 28 per (down 12 points) cent, while 7 per cent won?t vote. The massive increase by the No vote since the last poll has mainly come through gains among undecided voters but, even more ominously for the Yes side, it has lost some support to the No camp. While the final outcome is still in the hands of undecided voters, the clear momentum is now with the No campaign, and it will take a dramatic shift in public attitudes over the nex...
Irish Referendum on the Lisbon Treaty - Funny.

Lisbon Treaty - Irish Referendum - End of Nations.
2008-05-28 08:15:00
I posted this video last month and seeing as the 12th of June Irish Referendum on the Lisbon Treaty is just around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to post it again:This is a must watch, eye opening video from the Wise Up Journal. From their website:We set out to make a video about the pros and cons of the Lisbon Treaty and found out to our horror the lies, manipulations and deceit behind the EU. From MEPs, legal experts and EU researches the true nature of the EU unfolded, how it really operates from behind closed doors and away from prying eyes. We discovered the massive power grab away from citizens and nations to the elites that is being proposed in this treaty. Most shocking of all was how our elected representatives are willingly handing us over to this emerging Totalitarian Superstate by deception , propaganda and outright lies. This video details how the structures of the EU really operate, what the full significance of the Lisbon Treaty is and how it is the end o...

Irish Referendum on the Lisbon Treaty 12th June 2008
2008-05-13 19:56:00
The date has been set for the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. The 12th of June could be the day the Irish save the UK from the EU superstate. The Irish government under their new Prime Minister, Brian Cowen are supporting the "yes" vote. However a yes result is not set in stone. In a recent poll 38 said yes, 28 no and 34 were undecided. A previous poll was even closer with only a 4 point gap between yes and no.It's clear that the strength of feeling is stronger amongst the "no" voters, and they are more likely to turn out on voting day. Here's hoping anyway.Come on you Irish beauties. Do Europe a massive favour and vote NO. Please!Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device
