Isaacs Is Major Briggs In Green Zone
2008-03-10 22:24:00 Isaacs Is Major Briggs In Green ZoneExclusive: Confirms role in thriller Jason Isaacs' presence in Paul Greengrass' The Green Zone was announced last week, but this evening The Nicest Man Alive (with a mean line in gossipy anecdotes that we're not allowed to repeat because he made us promise and we're powerless to say no to him) confirmed to us the nature of his character."Yes, I'm playing Major Briggs," he told us. "I think we?ve changed his rank; I think he may be Lieutenant Colonel [in real life] or something ? maybe they thought I was too creaky to be a major. But, yeah, I play a special forces soldier and I had on tap these fabulous resources of these guys who had just come back ? and many of them are going back to Iraq ? who had all these stories they were bursting to tell. I was just quite stunned by how receptive Paul is by taking the most dramatic stories and putting them on the screen".He continued,"[Paul]?s got a masterplan, b...
John Isaacs: An Early Look Ahead: McCain, Clinton and Obama on National Sec
2008-02-29 22:57:00 The Center?s Executive Director, John Isaacs, recently wrote a terrific piece on what to expect from McCain, Clinton, and Obama in terms of national security issues. Key sections are provided below. Policy toward Iran President Bush has displayed unremitting hostility toward the radical regime dominating Iran, a country that U.S. intelligence sources report had previously been pursuing a nuclear weapons program. He branded Iran part of the ?axis of evil? and promoted regime change as the preferred U.S. policy. With a few limited exceptions, the United States under Bush has refused... 2008-01-05 08:45:00 The Center?s Executive Director, John Isaacs, recently penned an excellent wrap-up of Congressional action on national security issues in 2007, including nuclear weapons, nuclear nonproliferation, non-nuclear strategic weapons, missile defense, North Korea, and Iran. He argues that despite Congress? failure to end the Iraq War, it was successful in a number of other areas, especially nuclear weapons. The full article is provided below. On December 18, as Congress was about to head out of town, the Senate took three last votes on the war in Iraq. The outcome of the votes replicated a... [This is a content summary only. A whole generation of Jamaicans and reggae fans literally grew up with his music. Nicknamed The Cool Ruler, Gregory Isaacs, born 1951, Kingston, Jamaica, has produced during a three decade career a trailer load of reggae classics. His effective combination of cultural songs and soul-wailing love songs was irresistable. He easily adapted the new digital style of the mid 80s, and his popularity further increased with consistent albums for King Jammy, King Tubby and Gussie Clarke. With dozens of excellent album releases like 'Extra Classic', 'More Gregory', 'Mr. Isaacs', 'The Lonely Lover', 'Night Nurse' and 'Red Rose For Gregory' Gregory Isaacs' catalog is immense. Gregory Isaacs - Slum In Dub
2007-12-12 15:42:00 Songs from Slum In Dub have popped up on dub compilations for years, and on the comps I own with songs from Slum always ended up being my favorites, but the actual album of this has eluded me for years. I was completely stunned to simply find it inconspicuously sitting in a record shop bin in NY on a recent trip. It's that familiar routine: there's some running mental list of records that seem to be nothing but elusive and so many bins end up being checked when away from home that the expectations are next to zero. Now I'm more than thrilled to know it is now being widely distributed again thanks to Mr. Isaacs' own African Museum label. As aforementioned these songs always stood out above the rest on dub comps: deep and dirty sounds were soaked with soul and almost completely void of vocals. Bass and drums groove along with the rhythm guitar while a keyboard instrument (melodica or organ) takes the lead. More than likely there's somebody present whose primary function is to trig...
John Isaacs: Congress and Iran: The New Iraq?
2007-11-06 21:43:00 Executive Director of the Center, John Isaacs, published a new article last week on the simmering situation in Congress concerning Iran. He sees last month as a turning point in the administration's PR offensive laying the groundwork for a preventive U.S. attack against Iran. The drumbeat of a possible march to war with Iran reached a new intensity in recent weeks. Although the campaign is led by President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, cheerleaders in Congress and the conservative community?with no small assistance from Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his inflammatory... Gregory Isaacs - Mr. Isaacs
2006-12-22 22:55:02 Released in 1977, ‘Mr. Isaacs’ features Jamaican singer Gregory Isaacs stepping away from his signature lover’s-rock style, and opting instead to unleash a more political album. Although Isaacs was no stranger to socially conscious songs, this kind of extended topical focus was atypical for the crooner, best known for outings such as ’74’s ‘Love Is [...] |
