Q&A with Steve Weinman
2008-04-23 21:58:00 I’m still a little too shocked and appalled to talk about the Bulls season without inserting profanity between every other word. So, while Chris breaks down the Bulls roster, I talked to a guy whose team is still in the playoffs, Steve Weinman. Steve used to cover the NBA for MVN, and now he’s doing the ...

Nota bene!
2008-03-31 13:53:00 Appearing weekly, Nota Bene attempts to provide an overview of the week’s news. Meanwhile, in its appendix, we cull trenchant comments to articles and posts, as well as those heard in person or emailed. In “The Obama Doctrine” at American Prospect, Spencer Ackerman writes: “Obama is offering the most sweeping liberal foreign-policy critique we’ve heard from a serious presidential contender in decades. [He envisions] a doctrine that first ends the politics of fear . . . in favor of ‘dignity promotion,’ to fix the conditions of misery that breed anti-Americanism. ”We want to have [a foreign policy] debate with John McCain,’ a close Obama adviser says.” As for Hillary, reports Frank Newport for Gallup, “A sizable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination. This is particularly true for Hillary Clinton supporters...

Isiah Thomas “Zeke”

Peter Vecsey Weighs in on Isiah Thomas [J. Mark English]
2007-10-05 17:13:00 Isiah Thomas was found liable for sexual harassment earlier this week, and the MSG organization as a whole looks worse then ever. Peter Vecsey of the New York Post breaks down the quagmire surrounding Thomas:Like hundreds of others who've worked for, played with or for, and partied alongside Isiah Thomas, when I heard his closing "not-guilty-as-found" statement on the courthouse steps I shook my head and rolled my eyes.......How many times can a man deny wrongdoing before his credibility is irretrievably impounded? How often can blame be shifted before even the blindest loyalist converts to a Doubting Thomas? How many times can truthfulness be dodged during decades of incidents and accidents, hints and allegations? How come someone's always lying about Thomas? Distorting what he said or did? Fabricating things he claims he didn't say or do? Why is everybody so hostile toward him? So quick to think the worst? Taking such pleasure in persecuting, er, prosecuting him? Remember ...

Browne Sanders suing Isiah Thomas for sexual harassment.
2007-10-02 20:39:00 Former basketball player Isiah Thomas (I used to love him when I was a kid, I mean LOVE!) is being sued by the former Vice President of marketing and business operations for the Knicks, Anucha Browne Sanders. Shortly after she filed the complaint, she was fired and is suing and one of her complaints is that she was fired because she brought up potentially being sexually harassed by Thomas. A jury indicated yesterday that it had decided that Madison Square Garden and Knicks Coach Isiah Thomas sexually harassed a former marketing executive, but that it had not yet reached a verdict on all nine points of the lawsuit. In a note to United States District Court Judge Gerard E. Lynch, who read it in open court late yesterday afternoon, jurors said that they had decided eight of the points but could not reach agreement on whether Thomas should pay damages to the former executive, Anucha Browne Sanders.According to a legal scholar, there is a potential for there to be a mistrial if all...

2007-10-02 17:56:00 A jury ruled Tuesday that New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas sexually harassed a top team executive, subjecting the married mother of three to unwanted advances and a barrage of verbal insults. But the jury also ruled that Thomas does not have to pay punitive damages to the woman, giving him a partial victory after an ugly, three-week trial. The jury did find that Madison Square Garden committed harassment against the woman, and ruled that she is entitled to damages from MSG. U.S. District Judge Gerard E. Lynch called it an "imminently reasonable" verdict and said the jury of four women and three men will be asked to return later in the day to hear brief arguments on punitive damages against MSG. Isiah Thomas: Its different when white people call women bitches
2007-09-19 04:30:00 At the end of this article Allahpundit asks if his fellow bloggers ever feel as if they are writing the same posts again and again. The answer is yes but evidently, some people need to be reminded regularly of their own hypocrisy and lies. Isiah Thomas is just one amongst many. ~RJH HotAir article link Isiah Thomas: Its different when white people call women bitchesposted at 7:28 pm on September 18, 2007 by Allahpundit Actually, that headlines not fair. Its different when white people call black women bitches, he says. Or rather, its different when white men call black women bitches, but maybe not when white women do. Or is it? Savor the flavor, my friends, as one of the NBAs greatest guards sketches out a race/gender matrix so nuanced that only one conclusion may be safely drawn that for Zeke, as between black men and women, bitch is very much on the table. In a videotaped deposition played for the jury at fired Knicks exec Anucha Browne Sanders sexua...
Notable Quotable: "I don't think it's right for any man to ever call a woma
2007-09-18 18:45:00 Isiah Thomas vehemently denied using slurs toward Anucha Browne Sanders, the former MSG official who has sued him for sexual harassment."Not as much and I am sorry to say I do make a distinction," said Thomas when asked if he thought it was offensive for a black man to call a black woman a "bitch.""A white male calling a black female a 'bitch' is highly offensive to me," he said.Later outside court Thomas implored reporters not to misconstrue the meaning of his deposition remarks."Please don't mischaracterize the video that was shown in court today. I don't think it's right for any man to ever call a woman a 'bitch.' I didn't do it, and I wouldn't do it. Thank you," said Thomas. [SOURCE]You can watch the video of his unedited deposition HERE.

Isiah Thomas Gets Extension [David Stefanini]
2007-03-12 19:22:00 This from ESPN.com:Isiah Thomas got a multiyear contract extension Monday, nine months after he was warned the Knicks needed to show "evident progress" or he'd be out of a job. With the Knicks in the hunt for a playoff spot, Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan went back on his vow to wait until after the season to make his decision, saying that Thomas would return as coach and team president. Thomas added the coaching duties to his other role in June after Dolan fired Larry Brown following one season. But along with the job came the ultimatum, though Dolan never publicly said what the Knicks needed to do this season to show that progress. But with New York (29-34) already six wins better than last season and currently eighth in the Eastern Conference, Dolan said the improvement under Thomas "needs to be recognized now and not wait." Comments:I do not feel this is right. This team has a lot of talent on it but lacks disciplined. As a GM he has put the Knicks in s...
