2011-12-13 14:17:00 The east coast of Phuket is very much under-rated, far less touched by tourism than the sandy beaches on the west coast and far less visited by visitors. Quite a few of my favourite places and favourite restaurants are on the east side. If you head north from Phuket Town, on the main airport road there is a small side road heading to Laem Hin, a fishing community where you find the very popular Laem Hin Seafood restaurant. A new jetty was built at Laem Hin a few years ago to serve Coconut Island and allow larger boats to dock in the area. On Coconut Island (Koh Maphrao) you find a very nice resort called The Village. And in the water just off the island there are several floating restaurants. We've been before and somehow I have never blogged anything about these places. Thanks to Dave Cindrich for being unfortunate enough to hurt his back and to be an awesome guy and lend me his boat for the weekend. We split the lake East & West for the weekend and the two tournaments. I got up there around 1pm on Friday and practiced a bit on the East side. I found a few fish and a few baits that produced some bites.Saturday morning, I went directly to my best area and the boat right behind me had the same idea, good thing I did not daddle. On my first cast with a Vixen topwater, I boated a keeper smallie. I stuck with it for awhile with no more bites. I then went to dragging plastics, and I was able to coax 3 bites including a 19.5" beauty.We hunted around the rest of the lake, I was able to get 3 more keepers on soft plastics. Shutter Island - Book Review
2011-10-11 16:35:00 Recently, I have started reading a lot of fiction & non-fiction that were converted to popular movies - e.g. The Lincoln Lawyer, The Blind Side and Stardu-st. Shutter Island In that tradition, the recent novel i picked up was "Shutter Island". Extremely well written book that really surprises you at the end. One of the problems with reading a story after seeing a movie is that - you always see the characters shown by the director rather than the character created by the author while writing the book. e.g. I always see Daniel Radcliffe while reading Harry Potter Series. This book was an exception to that case - which is a testament of the thought-out characterization by the author. (I saw only the early few minutes and not the entire movie) Though this is not a page-turner, it still keeps you interested enough to mull over and come back to the book.
