Izzy to DL with "hand cut"
2008-05-16 22:48:00 BY ADAM RONIS The Cardinals placed reliever Jason Isringhausen on the 15-day DL because of cut to his pitching hand he reportedly injured last week slapping a television in frustration last week. After blowing his fifth save of the season on May 9, Izzy said he needed a break from closing. He pitched two scoreless innings of relief in two appearances after that before blowing a 5-4 lead last night and allowed four runs -- three earned -- in 1/3 of an inning. He is 1-5 with an 8.00 ERA. Izzy converted 32 of 34 saves last season. Ryan Franklin will take over as closer and should be picked up in all formats. Righthander Chris Perez was recalled from Triple-A Memphis.

He feels fine physically and his velocity isn't down. The team thinks it is his mechanics. Izzy blew his fifth save last night. He is 1-4 with a 7.47 ERA and has blown four of his last seven save opportunities. He leads the NL with 11 saves and is eight away from 300. Ryan Franklin and Russ Springer will split the closing role. Franklin has a 2.00 ERA in 19 games this season. Springer has a 7.50 ERA in six innings.

As with his other recent hacks, the Wiimote and a sensor bar substitute swap their usual positions, with a pair of IR-equipped safety glasses stylishly getting the job done in this case. Toss in some custom-made software (available at the link below) and you've got a setup that's sure to make anyone's jaw drop. My playlist pleased the crowds except for music maestro Al, who took over to give us tolerable, but not energising, music for the last hour (apparently 'Golden Brown' cuts no ice these days and was a nig no no). Some of the wilder speculation out there has been that the Twins might trade Torii Hunter or Johan Santana if they decide they're out of it. Various Baseball Prospectus reports put the Twins' playoff chances between 5-10%. Rosenthal debunks the idea that Minnesota would shop Hunter without first making him an offer, and keeping Santana for at least 2008 makes sense. Plus, Santana has a no-trade clause.
