From Jan 1st - Spare Lithium Batteries No Longer Allowed in Checked Baggage
2007-12-30 23:45:00 From January 1st the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued new regulations with regards to carrying Spare Lithium batteries. Effective January 1, 2008, spare lithium batteries - extra batteries not installed on devices - will no longer be allowed in checked baggage. Spare lithium batteries may be packed in carry-on baggage and lithium batteries installed in a device may be packed in either checked or carry-on, as long as the battery is installed in the device. 2007-12-28 19:48:00 287,000 workers to get Workfare payments on Jan 1 - S’pore By S Ramesh, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 28 December 2007 1119 hrs SINGAPORE: Some 287,000 workers will receive the first payment of the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) on 1 January 2008. The Manpower Ministry says the government will be paying out S$146 million in WIS benefits for work done in the first half of this year. Employees will receive the amount in both CPF and cash. The cash portion will be credited into their bank accounts as specified under the GST Credits Scheme. The second WIS payment will be made in April for employees and in May for self-employed and informal workers. The WIS is paid to low-wage Singaporean workers aged above 35 years old to encourage them to stay employed and to save for the future. 2007-12-13 03:39:00 S’pore New CPF interest rates to kick off on Jan 1 FROM Jan 1, 2008, CPF members will earn higher interest on their first $60,000 of savings - 5 per cent on their Special, Medisave and Retirement Account (SMRA) and 3.5 per cent on up to $20,000 of their Ordinary Account (OA). For the rest of their savings, the current rates will be maintained at least until April. This is because the new, floating rate that will apply to the SMRA from Jan 1 is lower than the minimum rate of 4 per cent now paid on these accounts. In an earlier announcement, the CPF Board said that the OA rate of 2.5 per cent also remains unchanged. Under changes to the scheme announced earlier this year, an additional one percentage point in interest will be paid on the first $60,000 of CPF savings, including up to $20,000 in the OA. We apologise to Ms Tan for the delay and the inconvenience caused to her with respect to her application for the Enhanced Incomeshield Advantage Plan and the Plus Rider. Ms Tan wrote that the premium rates for the Plus Rider had increased for new policies as of Nov 16. We would like to clarify that the increase in premium rates for the rider will impact only those policies effected on or after Jan 1 next year. Those who applied for the Plus Rider on or before Nov 16 would not be affected by the rate increase. Ms Tan was informed last week that the premium rate for her Plus Rider is unaffected. The revision in rates for the Plus Rider is necessary due to increases in hospitalisation costs in recent years. 2007-01-28 23:39:02 The weather around southeast Idaho is slowly warming up. Temps may hover the freezing mark by sunday but as soon as it warms up it will cool down as fast. We had about a 1/4 inch snowfall from Wednesday thru Thursday. The actual conditions were quite phenomenal. Skies were partly to mostly cloudy with steady snowfall occuring. Bascially is the Barometer wasnt so low it would have just been like a Weak Marine layer. Shockingly enough the snow accumulated up to about a 1/4 inch. Having lived here shorter than 3 years and seeing stars at night during a steady snowfall I have to say it was very interesting. The coming storm for this weekend looks to be small. Mountain areas only expecting to see 1-2 inches. From what it appears we will be lucky to get 1 inch. There really is no concern for a Convergence event so expectations are very little for accumulating snow. Some Christians think that having some level of objective certainty about the truth of Christianity somehow makes faith unnecessary. It makes it irrelevant. After all, how can you have faith in something you know is true? That's the way the argument goes. If you know it, there's no faith involved. I think this is what people mean by the phrase "leap of faith." We all supposedly have to take this leap of faith. That is what Christianity or any religion is all about, right? When someone like myself gives evidence for Christianity as if it can be proved in some sense, I understand how some could think I am undermining the Christian faith. After all, if God wants faith above all and I give facts and arguments...
