The Lucinda Williams album, West, which I reviewed yesterday has been getting some rave reviews from people not named Brody. Jim Kiest calls it “gorgeous, country rock gone to heaven,” while Cricket from Hard-core Troubadours wrote an in depth praise of the album, but then says she can’t exactly recommend it. She explains by saying the album was therapy to her and that her response was completely personal. An article that reached the homepage of Digg explains that the Dixie Chicks’ five Grammys are sparking a little debate among country radio broadcasters. Country broadcasters said Monday that the group’s five Grammys show how out of touch the Recording Academy is from the average country fan. 2007-02-09 17:10:02 Country at Grammy week: Country took its turn in the Grammy week spotlight with LeAnn Rimes, Marty Stuart, Charley Pride and Porter Wagoner among the stars calling attention to efforts to preserve vintage country audio and video performances. Maybe if enough people beat the “today’s country isn’t real country” drum someone will start paying attention…probably not, though. Ticket packages for Greenfest 6 are on sale. It’ll be held on March 31, in downtown Austin at Antones. There will be acoustic sets by Drew Kennedy, Josh Grider, and Peter Dawson with full band sets from Adam Hood, Walt Wilkins, and Wade Bowen. I don’t know very much about Josh Grider and nothing about Peter Dawson, but the other four guys are worth the price of admission on their own. Patty Loveless has split ways with her Sony label. Review: Jason Michael Carroll - Waitin? In The Country
2007-02-06 17:07:03 When I think of current baritone vocaled country singers, guys like Trace Adkins and Josh Turner pop to mind. After listening to Jason Michael Carroll, he’ll be a new one in the same spirit as Trace Adkins. The first two tracks, “Waitin’ in the Country” and “I Can Sleep When I’m Dead”, are adrenaline infused pieces to get your blood flowing. The third song slows the tempo way down and is the popular first single from Carroll, Alyssa Lies, that some have suggested may overshadow his career. Jewel joins Carroll on one of my favorites from the album, “No Good In Goodbye”. Carroll starts the song off with his deep baritone, but Jewel quickly takes over and pretty much hijacks the rest of the song. Despite Carroll taking a backseat to Jewel I think it’s a solid song and will help pique people’s interest in her own country album.
