Appoint Jeb Bush as Interim Florida Senator
2009-08-07 22:18:00 In the wake of Mel Martinez’s decision to resign from the United States Senate, Governor Charlie Crist could do no better than to appoint his accomplished predecesor to fill the seat for the remainder of Martinez’s term. This would give the articulate conservative a larger platform to address the issues of the day. And for fifteen ...

Republican Super Ticket
2008-03-06 23:42:00 I’ve got it! Since Sen. John McCain clinched the nomination on Tuesday, the talk has immediately turned to who his running mate will be. The person that McCain picks has to be… Young (at least younger than him) Able to govern (chances are, Johnny Mac ain’t gonna make it a full term) From an electorally sound state Likeable (cause Johnny Mac ...

Romney Endorses McCain
2008-02-15 20:16:00 One week after leaving the race, former Massachusetts Governor announced his support for presumptive nominee John McCain yesterday. Though Romney and McCain had a tense (at best) relationship on the trail, Romney hinted in his withdrawal speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference that a McCain endorsement was eminent. The two often exchanged personal barbs in debates and in campaign ads, but their past (and most likely lingering) hostility was well hidden in yesterday's appearance in Boston. Romney called McCain an "American hero," while seeking to put the past behind them. "Even when the contest was close and our disagreements were debated, the caliber of the man was apparent," Romney told reporters, adding, "Primaries are tough. Now we move forward."Given McCain's sizable delegate lead, it is no surprise that Romney is endorsing his former rival. Besides seeking to unite the party, Romney is also hoping to build goodwill with rank and file Republicans. At the sam...

Jeb Bush Endorses McCain
2008-02-11 22:39:00 John McCain picked up another high profile endorsement, this one from the President's brother and former Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush.In a statement, Bush praised McCain as a ?patriot and devoted conservative leader.? He added, ?like no other candidate in the field, John McCain has made tremendous sacrifices for this nation. He is beholden to no interest other than that of the public good. He is determined and steadfast in his commitment to reducing the burden of high taxes, restoring the people?s trust in their government, and winning the war against radical Islamic extremists. It is with pride that I announce my endorsement of John McCain for president.?McCain has received some heat from conservatives who outright do not trust the Senator to represent their values (it makes you wonder why they liked Giuliani in the first place). Former Governor Bush can help mend differences with this key voting block, but it looks like McCain has a lot of work to do, especially when people like...
The Jeb Bush Legacy
2007-12-02 22:20:00 This via Atrios:Where Was Jeb? A government money market debacle unfolding in Florida is raising questions about former governor and presidential brother Jeb Bush's possible involvement in the mess.Florida froze withdrawals from a state investment fund earlier this week when local governments withdrew billions of dollars out of concern for the fund's financial stability. In the past few days, municipalities have withdrawn roughly $9 billion, nearly a third of the $28 billion fund (which is similar to a money market fund) controlled by the Florida's State Board of Administration (SBA). The run on the fund was triggered by worries that a percentage of the portfolio contained debt that had defaulted.A majority of this paper was sold to SBA by Lehman Brothers. Bush, as the state's top elected official, served on a three-member board that oversaw the SBA until he retired as governor in January. In August, Bush was hired as a consultant to the bank. Lehman spokesperson Kerrie Cohen, sp...
This Week In Political Endorsements...
2007-11-10 18:41:00 With Iowa voters set to caucus in less than two months, the battle for endorsements really heated up this week. When looking at these endorsements, there are several key points to consider:Not all endorsements are created equalEndorsements don't sway as many voters as they used toEndorsements help in other ways--building organization, acting as a surrogate, and serving as symbolic supportNearly every top tier candidate received some sort of "major" endorsement this week, so let's take a look.Mitt Romney kicked things off this week with an endorsement from Paul Weyrich. Who? Weyrich is a big name among social and religious conservatives, co-founding the Moral Majority in the late 1970s. While Weyrich is no longer one of the stars of the religious right (think Pat Robertson, James Dobson), his endorsement serves as a symbolic one for the Romney campaign. Romney has made a serious push to win over values voters and Weyrich's name adds some credibility to that effort.Perhaps the ...

Jeb Bush is Insane
2007-04-11 21:17:00 I try to refrain from posting politically inspired content, but this just pushed me over the edge. Florida legislature forced the University of Florida to rename its education school to the "Jeb Bush College of Education" because the university voted to deny Jeb Bush an honorary degree. Note to self, never hurt the feelings of anyone in the Bush family; first Duyba's "war of honor" against Iraq, now Jeb's "war against the denial of honorary degrees." As an alumni of the University of Florida, I'm now feeling quite sick.P.S.: Trader-X, please no jokes about who is Esto and who is OONR7! ;)
Jeb Bush denied honorary degree
2007-03-25 05:06:00 This article had the following: In deciding not to give Bush an honorary degree, some faculty members cited concerns about Bush?s educational record in respect to the university. Some said his approval of three new medical schools has diluted resources. He also has been criticized for his ?One Florida? proposal, an initiative that ended race-based admissions programs at state universities Doctors are in short supply. How do I know? Well, they're expensive which means they're in demand. I also know because many doctors in Los Angeles are from foreign countries and they obviously wouldn't go to a place where they weren't needed. And, far more people apply to medical school than can be accepted. Now, what happens when the supply of something goes up while demand remains constant? So, Jeb Bush is in a position to remedy the situation by expanding medical schools to increase supply and people complain. And he wants to end race-based preferences. So, he's rejected because he ...
