Covers: One Republic does Jeff Buckley (well)
2008-02-14 00:29:00 Jeff Buckley covers are dangerous. He had a very soulful distinctive voice, and most covers of his songs fail by comparison. One Republic, who are currently sidestepping the one-hit-wonder curse, released a cover of "Last Goodbye" on their new EP, and it's really not that terrible. I found a live acoustic version that they did of the song, and it's actually better than their studio version. This version actually holds up pretty well to Buckley's version, even though nothing will top the original.

Acoustic: Jeff Buckley
2007-12-11 03:04:00 Just in case I haven't said this enough times on this blog: This man is so fucking talented. I went digging for some acoustic versions of Jeff Buckley's work this afternoon, and here's the two best tracks I found during the short amount of time I had. The first is "Last Goodbye"-- this version is a little more alternative and less "radio friendly"-sounding than the album version, and it's a sound that works extremely well for the song. The second is "Lover You Should Have Come Over", a version that's a little quieter but still packs just as much intensity as the original. I always thought that the album version of LYSHCO was his best song, even beating his cover of "Hallelujah". I can't believe that dozens of artists aren't lineing up to cover "You Should Have Come Over" the same way dozens of artists lined up to cover "Hallelujah".

Jeff Buckley - Grace
This is about me

Jeff Buckley- Garbage Can Tape
2007-10-21 21:29:00 Sometime during fall of 1996, East Village resident Barry Paddock was walking down 2nd Ave. At 12th Street he spotted a pile of cassette tapes left on top of a garbage dumpster. Curious, he decided to sift through he tapes to see if there was anything worthwhile. Most of the tapes were pre-recorded stuff like the Beastie Boys, which he didn't particularly care for, but one tape he found was a blank tape with a hand written label that read "J. Buckley Stuff". Barry saved that tape from the trash and took it home. The tape is approx. 35 minutes long and consists of Jeff doing 7 solo acoustic covers. The best guess is that the tape was made circa 1992 or 1993.1. Parchman Farm2. If you see her, say hello3. I know it's over4. Hallelujah5. Let time stand still6. Madame George7. Nusrat was Jeff Buckley's Elvis
2007-08-21 19:23:00 To mark the 10th anniversary of Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's death, journalist and film-maker Navid Akhtar examines the legacy of this musical megastar whose haunting voice enraptured millions across the globe and who successfully collaborated with countless top Western musicians. It was American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley who, in 1993, described Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as "his Elvis". In this programme, Akhtar looks at how this musician of an art form distinctive to Northern India and Pakistan became a global superstar in his own right and the most famous artist to emerge from the sub-continent since Ravi Shankar.Akhtar examines the impact Nusrat had on Asian culture in the UK and on the global music scene of the Eighties and Nineties. He tracks Nusrat's path from a long line of Qawwali musicians who sang devotional love songs at the shrines of the Sufi priests, to the voice on soundtracks of films directed by the likes of Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone an...
CD Review: SO REAL: SONGS FROM JEFF BUCKLEY
2007-05-28 06:37:00 It is a sad reality of today?s music industry that style often triumphs talent, and style beats substance. Once again, this point was brought home to me as I listened to the latest posthumous collection of songs from Jeff Buckley.

Jeff Buckley and Liz Fraser:
All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun 2007-02-28 14:01:05 Scrounging around on Soulseek for the live version of this unreleased track, I was amazed to find the studio version. This is a bit of a holy grail for Buckley fans, so it's my pleasure to put it up. If I remember "Dream Brother" correctly, Jeff and Liz went into the studio together. However, they decided never to release their collaboration because romance complicated things. Anyways, here

Jeff Buckley - So Real: Songs From Jeff Buckley
