Inside NASCAR not impressed with Jeff Gordon vs. Jeff Burton fight at Texas
2010-11-11 01:54:00
The media and the NASCAR fans are still buzzing about several key moments during last Sunday's AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway from the Kyle Busch penalty, the #48 and #24 pit crew swap that is also in effect for the remainder of the season, but the big one is the so-called fight between Jeff Gordona nd Jeff Burton had even lite up Twitter for a while during the race and in post-race. Well now even the Inside NASCAR on Showtime bunch has had there say in it and from the video above, they weren't too impressed especially Michael Waltrip. Personally the 1979 Daytona 500 fight on the last lap inside the infield on the final lap was a classic as well as Kevin Harvick vs. Greg Biffle at Bristol with Harvick clearing two cars just to land right in front of Biffle, man was Biffle surprised. Of course for more of my comments on all three of these key moments from last Sunday at Texas, besure to check out my blog post entitled "NASCAR: Jeff Gordon vs. Jeff Burton, Kyle Busch vs....
NASCAR: Harvick vs. Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon vs. Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch vs.
2010-10-30 02:06:00
As the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has already unloaded and practiced at Talladega Superspeedway, I just wanted to take this moment and put a period on last week's episode if you will in the chase for the Sprint Cup. The above clip is from this past Wednesday night's Inside NASCAR on Showtime and after hearing what these four guys thought, here is my take, and yes Chris Myers was right, Harvick does come off sounding like a jurk on the radio. Note: Inside NASCAR seems to be a show that I'm actually enjoying and that is mainly due to the multi-part recaps of the previous race including all of the unedited radio chatter which gets heated at times. And as I say that, Martinsville was some of the most heated radio chatter I've heard all season long from Harvick vs. teammate Burton, Kyle Busch vs. Jimmie Johnson to Jeff Gordon vs. Kurt Busch. Isn't amazing, we basically have most of the case of suspects on this list. First, Johnson vs. Busch: Jimmie Johnson's job isn't to pull o...

Jeff Burton Not Slowing Down at 40
2008-05-12 16:50:00
At age 40, a lot of drivers might start thinking about getting out from behind the wheel. But not Jeff Burton. With the same determination he displayed as a rookie in the Cup series in 1994, Burton is still driving hard. He comes into this weekend’s Dodge Challenger 500 second in points after having led the series four straight weeks. Burton has made the Chase for the Championship the past two

Jeff Burton Bristol Pit Report
2007-08-24 21:39:00
This week: Even though he's a true short-track warrior, Burton has never won a Cup race at Bristol. He has seven top-fives and 11 top-10s in 27 Bristol starts. His best finish is second, which he accomplished three times (1998, 2005 and last March). He is optimistic about making the Chase but is wary of a slipup. "We certainly don't want to put ourselves in a situation that we didn't have to be
Well, What Logo will Jeff Burton and RCR have on the #31 car
2007-08-20 21:45:00
I have not heard anything about this.  And I am kind of suprised about it.   On Monday the Judge said that they had 5 days to reply.  AT&T did ask the court to reconsider on Friday and determned that they would be racing with theAT&T logo in SUNDAY's race.  But here it is Monday and I think the 5 days is up.  And if it is postponed even farther to Tues, then definetly the 5 days is up.   And more importantly, what are they going to do after that.  Is AT&T just going to use the Cingular brand name on the car.  That doesn't make alot of sense because there isn't a Cingular anymore.  Will AT&T be allowed to just pull out.  Where will that leave Jeff Burton and RCR.   I think the Judge should at least let AT&T finish out the year.   BUT - Ultimetly AT&T , RCR and Jeff Burton are completly right in this situation.  AT&T should be able to have that logo on their car.   Mike

Despite Bad Breaks, Jeff Burton's Succeeding
2007-03-20 16:39:00
If Jeff Burton can muster through the little things, he should be in for another big year.Burton recorded his third top-five in four starts -- only one of four drivers to do so -- with a fourth-place finish Sunday in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and sits third in the driver standings, just 11 points behind leader Mark Martin.Jeff Burton took advantage of some bad luck on pit road for Kyle Busch to win the Nicorette 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It's Burton's second consecutive Busch Series victory. "There were times in the race we had the best car, especially on long runs," Burton said. "We got off in the middle portion of the race but when it counted at the start we were really good and at the end we were really good."The No. 31 Chevrolet started 32nd and within 40 laps had improved his track position by 19 spots. He never ran lower than 13th after that and Burton thought he had a chance to win, until ..."We had something wrong with the fueling system," Burton ...
Jeff Burton on the Car of Tomorrow
2007-03-20 16:21:00
After testing the car at Bristol Motor Speedway a few weeks ago alongside just about every one of his racing peers, Richard Childress Racing’s Jeff Burton wasn’t ready yet to anoint it as a complete success, although he praised NASCAR’s attempt to build a safer race car.“There was a tremendous effort put into the safety side of things, and that shouldn’t be left unsaid. The goal is to have safer vehicles and better racing,” Burton said. “I like the fact that there’s more room for the driver. “I don’t have the answer long-term as to whether the racing will be better, but short-term, because it’s so new and some people will figure it out quicker than others, we have a possibility of a larger gap from first to last.”
NASCAR Chase Standings Through Week 2
2007-02-28 17:31:00
Since the only thing that matters is the Nascar Chase for the Cup Playoffs, I am going to track their standings here. The point system that Nascar uses up until this point is really irrelevant. Recall that the top 12 finishers over the first 26 races will each receive 5000 points. Each driver will receive an additional 10 points for every victory. My guess is that if you make the Chase, any points that you incurred previously for penalties would also be eliminated.Current Chase for the Cup Standings1T Matt Kenseth 50101T Kevin Harvick 50103T Mark Martin 50003T Jeff Burton 50003T Jeff Gordon 50003T David Ragan* 50003T Clint Bowyer 50003T Joe Nemechek 50003T J.J. 2006-09-01 17:22:00
This Week?s Race Car at California Speedway ? Jeff Burton will race Chassis No. 173 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new for 2006, this is the same Cingular Chevrolet Burton drove to a sixth-place finish in the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe?s Motor Speedway, ninth-place finishes in both races at Pocono, a runner-up effort at Chicagoland and sat on the pole at Michigan in August before a blown engine resulted in a 42nd-place finish.Stat Facts ? In 12 Cup starts at California Speedway, Burton has earned three top-five and four top-10 finishes. Entering the SONY HD 500, Team Cingular has posted four poles, four top-five and 14 top-10 finishes and sits seventh in the points.California Driver ? Jeff Burton isn?t the only member of Team Cingular with driving experience in California. Jeff Burton Bristol Under the Lights - Lap by Lap
2006-08-29 02:21:00
After leading more than half the race ? 263 laps ? Jeff Burton was trying to find a way to feel optimistic after fading to finish ninth by taking the long view."There's something to be said for the big picture," said Burton, who did rebound from a 42nd-place finish at Michigan that dropped him to ninth in the standings. "We gained two positions back in the points, and that beats the heck out of losing them. That's the silver lining in this."But the late-race fade continued a trend that has frustrated Burton and his Richard Childress Racing team recently. "We have fast race cars," he said. "It just seems like at the end of these races we don't have it as good as we need to be. ...I am disappointed, but by Monday I will realize things aren't as bad as they feel like I am right now."We will keep digging and keep trying to get better. I feel good about our team, but I just think we have to be better in some areas. And when I say 'we,' I am including myself. For Jeff Burton, like mo...

Jeff Burton has Returned to the Nacar Elite
2006-08-06 19:24:03
The past four NASCAR seasons, Jeff Burton qualified for every Nextel Cup race and finished more than 90 percent of them. Yet Burton might as well have been on a missing persons list along with former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa. How could Burton have gone from being one of the top drivers in the series to, well, Ken Schrader or Dave Blaney? There was talk that Burton had lost his edge or that he had fallen behind in the ever-escalating technological race. Burton swore he was the same person who had won 17 races from 1997 through 2001. At times, though, he wondered whether the media and public were on to something. "Every now and then I had to walk into my trophy room and look and remind myself that, ?I have a lot of trophies here,? " he said. "Having the respect of your peers also means a great deal to me. I never heard the whispers from them. Those guys knew what was going on. I never woke up in the middle of the night and said, ?What has happened?? I always was concerned about wha...
Jeff Burton Captures Brickyard Pole
2006-08-06 18:28:00
Jeff Burton and rookie Clint Bowyer gave Richard Childress Racing a sweep of the front row Saturday in qualifying for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.Burton, who has driven in each of the 12 previous NASCAR races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway without qualifying higher than 16th, made an early lap of 182.778 mph stand up for his third pole of the season and only the fifth of a career that began in 1993."I think I left a little bit out there,'' said Burton, who along with Bowyer had to leave the track immediately after the Nextel Cup time trials to practice for Saturday night's Busch Series race at nearby O'Reilly Raceway Park.Burton was the second of 50 drivers who tried to qualify for the 43 Brickyard starting spots, so he didn't really know what it was going to take to stay on top with the track getting hotter and more slippery as the session went on."I ran as hard as I thought I could run and come back,'' Burton said. "I was a little bit conservative in a few places ...
Jeff Burton Assesses Tony Stewart's Road Rage
2006-08-06 18:04:00
Tony Stewart says he's tired of younger drivers breaking unwritten rules about driving and that the problem is only getting worse.Jeff Burton says that while younger drivers are prone to making more mistakes, there isn't much of a problem at all.Aside from putting some of NASCAR's younger drivers on alert, Stewart's revenge-motivated on-track bump with rookie Clint Bowyer two weeks ago at the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway has touched off a debate about aggressive moves on the racetrack. And, as he has been for most of his career, Stewart stands at the center of the controversy.Stewart said he doesn't expect any incidents at Sunday's race, where he is the defending champion. But he defended his action against Bowyer in retaliation for pushing him against the wall during the early portion of the race at Pocono. Stewart took responsibility for the incident during a conference call Thursday. He even admitted going overboard with his version of racetrack justice. But he saw th...
Race for the Chase Contenders - Jeff Burton
2006-08-06 17:50:00
On the strength of three straight top-10 finishes, Jeff Burton will be in the Chase. He's yet to win this season, but Burton has been relentlessly consistent since the seventh race of the season at Texas. Since then, he's only finished outside the top 10 three times. Most in the garage doubt he'll do much in the Chase, but he'll at least be a player in NASCAR's postseason. (I wonder why Lars Anderson keeps putting down Burton.)
Burton Moved Up By Lars Anderson
2006-07-27 15:38:00
Wisely deciding not to feel my wrath for the 2nd week in a row, Lars Anderson has moved Jeff Burton up to a more appropriate level, at 4th place, in his Power Rankings following Pocono. If we can only get him to use a picture of Burton in his Cup uniform and not one from the Busch Series, I will not have anything else to complain about.Burton continues to be the biggest surprise of the season. After finishing ninth at Pocono (his third straight top 10 run), he's now third in the points. (At this point last season Burton was 20th in the standings and searching for a way to revive his career.) Burton hasn't finished in the top 10 at Indy in his last five starts, but he has proven over the last three months that it's a mistake to use recent history to predict where he's going to finish.

Burton Up to 3rd, Drops in Power Rankings? WTF!!
2006-07-19 20:32:00
Lars Anderson must be a complete idiot based upon his NASCAR Power Rankings for this week. Here are his comments concerning Jeff Burton: After finishing seventh at New Hampshire, Burton is now third in the standings. There's no question that Burton, who hasn't won a race since 2001, is one of the biggest surprises of the season. He's been unexpectedly consistent, finishing in the top 10 in 12 different races, and has emerged as a legitimate threat to make the Chase. But will he do it? Well, this weekend at Pocono will be telling for him. In his last five starts at the 2.5-mile tri-oval, he's finished in the top 10 once. For some reason, Lars decides to drop Burton from 6th to 7th. Let me get this straight, Burton finishes in the top 10 for the 12th time this season, only Jimmy Johnson has more, and Burton moves to 3rd in the standings, so Anderson drops him? Why bother creating a Power Ranking system if you are not going to apply logic to it? Regarding Burton's last 5 starts at P...
