Jeff Francis, Rockies beat Giants 4-2 (AP)
2008-08-26 10:06:00 Jeff Francis got his first victory in more than two months, Yorvit Torrealba homered and the Colorado Rockies won for the eighth time in 10 games, beating the San Francisco Giants 4-2 on Monday night. Francis was winless in his last five starts but maintained his recent domination of the Giants by allowing seven hits ...

Arizona ace Brandon Webb beats Rockies, Jeff Francis for second time this s
2008-04-12 12:23:00 Ten games into the season and the Colorado Rockies — not to mention poor Jeff Francis — are surely tired of seeing Brandon Webb on the mound. The Arizona ace gave up two runs on four hits in eight innings, and with three two-run homers to back him, the Diamondbacks beat Colorado 8-2 on ...

World Series Review, Fantasy Style - Jeff Francis
2007-10-24 14:08:00 The World Series kicks-off this evening in Boston. The Red Sox will try to win another World Series in fewer that the 86 years it took them between their previous two while the Rockies look to conclude their second-ever post-.500 season with a championship. These are worthy goals, but I have something else in mind. I want to know which players will ride a wave of positive publicity and performance from the post-season towards higher draft values next Spring. I have little doubt that Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia and SP Josh Beckett and Rockies' OF Matt Holliday have already increased their 2008 value through award-laden regular seasons combined with excellent post-season showings. What makes me more interested is who else amongst the less obvious takes a jump in value. The player that strikes me as most likely to make the leap from fantasy shrugs to fantasy slyness at next year's drafts is Rockies' starting pitcher Jeff Francis. In both his post-season ...

British Columbia: Baseball Hotbed
2007-10-13 21:58:00 British Columbia: Baseball Hotbed With Colorado Rockies’ pitcher Jeff Francis currently in the post-season spotlight, it got me to thinking of another stud Canadian Rockies (former) ballplayer - Larry Walker - and why all these new studs (Jason Bay, Adam Loewen, Rich Harden, Justin Morneau) are coming from beautiful British Columbia. First off, let’s talk about the aforementioned Jeff Francis. To give you loyal MUD readers a sense of just how scarce it has been for Canadian pitchers participating in baseball?s post season, here is something for you to think about. With the Rockies’ win in Game 1 against Arizona, Jeff Francis posted his second consecutive playoff victory of the current season as a starter for the Colorado Rockies. It also made him the all-time leader in post season wins by a Canadian. With his first playoff win last week against the Philadelphia Phillies, the 26-year-old southpaw pulled into a tie for all-time post-season wins by a Canadi...

NLCS: The Improbable Match-up [J. Mark English]
2007-10-11 19:40:00 As of yesterday there was something like 8,000 tickets available to the D'backs vs. Rockies NLCS. It just shows how little interest there is in this bout. It also is an indication of just how low the expectations were for both of these ball clubs. The Diamondbacks are probably less of the surprise team here. They have solid pitching, and gutsy hitting...the same kind of combo that helped the Cardinals win the World Series last year. They are a scrappy team. The Rockies may be the beneficiaries of an off season discovery. Before the season, the Rockies ground crew realized that the baseballs in the high altitude would dry out, causing great lift in the ball. Combine this with the light air, and you have a ball that will travel a lot farther then at any other ball park. They decided to humidify the balls up until game day, keeping them nice and moist by the first pitch. The added density helped keep the ball in the park more often then not, and finally the Rockies were able t...

Baseball News From Yesterday With Chat Links - Jeff Francis and LA Dodgers
2007-09-24 15:57:00 Th Rockies' Jeff Francis won his 17th game yesterday to bring his team within 1.5 games of the Wild-card leading San Diego Padres. With the effort, Francis' (Don't call me "Francis") effort took his season ERA to 4.17. The Cubs' Carlos Zambrano also won his 17th game yesterday, and his ERA now stands at 4.08. The Rockies needn't only worry how they are going to pay MVP candidate Matt Holliday when he becomes a free agent. Is this how Dodgers' management shows its support for veteran 2B Jeff Kent?
