2006-12-02 16:06:01 Okay, so I get this CD in the mail with a website link to ?Jewish Hollow? recordings, and I?m thinking, what the hell is this? Who the f?k is Jeremy Enigk? I?m ready to toss it, but I have this policy of listening to everything I get?I gotta at least give it a chance, to be fair. But my expectations are low.The opening cut, an under-two-minute rumbly quiet instrumental is boring and self-important lead-in. I say, ?Get to it!? and I hit skip the last few seconds. Then Been Here Before creeps in, and I hear Perry Farrell without the screaming and spit. I hear contemplative, soft music that is both subtle and complicated at the same time. Nuanced.And again I ask, ?Who the f-k is this guy??Turns out, he?s the former lead singer of indie faves Sunny Day Real Estate, which explains a lot. That?s a band I?ve admired, but only from a distance. They just never really moved me. And it?s been like over a decade, hasn?t it? So I don?t feel too bad being ignorant about this guy. I?m ...
