None Of Self
2008-06-27 09:26:00
Higher than the highest heavens, Deeper than the deepest sea, Lord, Thy love at last has conquered, “None of self, and all of Thee.” There it is.  The great goal of the disciple of Christ.  The ideal as defined by the Son of God in Mark 8:34-35. What steps, regardless of how small, can you take throughout the day to ...
Jesus in the Eyes of the Sufis
2008-06-27 02:37:00
In the Name of the Transcendent, the Holy Jesus, as a Prophet of God, manifested the human qualities of sincerity, purity, love and charity. Prophet Muhammad always referred to him as a brother and Quran makes repeated mention of him with the highest praise. The Sufis have attempted to preserve the memory of Jesus as he really was, alive in their minds, and in the minds of others, and to keep him in their hearts. In Sufi literature, Jesus is the paragon of a perfect human being and the example par excellence of a true master. Throughout the centuries, the master of sufism presented him as a perfect sufi. The hermitage of Jesus .... Is the Sufi's table spread; Take heed, o sick one, .... Never forsake this doorway. - Rumi, Mathnawi :: The Spiritual Station of Jesus The gnostics amongst the Sufis distinguished four kinds of sainthood (welayat, literally means friendship with God): 1. that which is the inner dimension of prophethood (nabowwat). 2. that which is confined to (moqayya...
All Of Self
2008-06-24 15:59:00
O, the bitter pain and sorrow That a time could ever be, When I proudly said to Jesus “All of self, and none of Thee.” Are you wasting your life?  What could define the principle of wastefulness more than a being created in the image of God Himself who proudly says by his actions (or inaction), “All of self ...

Dude shows up in the darndest places.Wouldn't you think, being a good guy and all, he would rather apparition himself in some health food? Now why Jesus, sitting up in Heaven nice and comfy and all, would want to leap head-first into a boiling vat of cooking oil is beyond me, but seeing what he went through on that cross, maybe he likes the victim and suffering thing.

What Would Jesus Buy?
2008-06-11 08:48:00
Kirsten and I had a group of about 10 folks (including us) over last Friday to view the new Morgan Spurlock produced film What Would Jesus Buy?, which chronicles the dramatic activism of Rev. Billy and his Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir. I think for the most part “a good time was had by all,” though of course the purpose of our evening was to be entertained a little bit, to be sure, but mostly to be challenged and raise awareness regarding our entrenched conspicuous consumption as mostly middle class citizens of the United States. My hope is that this would prompt some discussion among us about how to begin “being the change we want to see.” It is crystal clear to me that if as a society we got into this mess “alone” (as a result of the individualism that is as much a part of our way of life as consumerism is), the only way to get out of this mess is to pursue change together, and I vow to do all that I can to create and facilitate the kind ...

Police subdue naked man who was claiming to be Jesus and George Bush
2008-06-07 09:52:00
A naked Pinson man claiming to be Jesus Christ and George Bush was shot four times with a stun gun by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies this morning after he repeatedly refused to heed their commands. Richard Scott Odell, 30, was treated on the scene by paramedics and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. A motorist called deputies about 4 a.m. to alert them that the man was standing nude in the middle of Alabama 79 at Bradford Road. As the motorist approached the man, he stumbled toward the car and was struck by the car’s mirror, sheriff’s authorities said. The man then ran away.

Jesus Camp
2008-06-07 00:41:00
Jesus CampPlotIn an evangelical Christian summer camp in the US, children as young as five are taught about religion and the importance of becoming good Christian soldiers.ReviewRichard Dawkins spends a certain amount of time in his entertaining polemic The God Delusion expounding his belief that there is no such thing as a religious child, only children of religious parents. It?s a point worth keeping in mind when watching the fascinating Jesus Camp, a documentary on the well-attended Kids On Fire School Of Ministry for the children of Pentecostal parents in North Dakota. The film focuses primarily on three kids: the precocious and irritatingly ponytailed Levi, who is home-schooled by his mother using creationist science textbooks and wants to grow up to be a pastor; the rather sweet Rachel, who just seems confused; and the thoroughly amusing Tory, who enjoys jigging along to Christian heavy metal just as long as she isn?t dancing ?for the flesh? (it?s a fine line, apparently). Rach...
Jesus Denounces McCain, Endorses Obama
2008-06-06 23:01:00
In a stunning turn of events Thursday, the Son of God endorsed Barack Obama for President while rejecting and distancing himself from presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. Outside an Applebee's off the New Jersey Turnpike in Paramus yesterday, Jesus Christ told reporters, "Look, it's been a very divisive primary season between Barack and Hillary. I thought my support would aid the healing process and help unify the Democrats." Asked if he was a registered Democrat, Jesus replied, "I'm actually registered with the Green Party. But no amount of faith and prayer will get their candidate elected." Christ clarified, "I perform miracles, but there are limits."

Troubling Our Own Households

Take a thoughtful look at Proverbs 11:29, particularly the first half of the verse. We all know how to make trouble in our own households, don’t we? We’ve been there. We’ve been the member of the family who has opened the front door to trouble and invited it in as a welcomed guest. By operating ...
Drug traffickers craft cocaine Jesus
2008-06-03 04:06:00
United States customs officials have seized a statue of Jesus Christ made from plaster mixed with cocaine - the latest sophisticated attempt to smuggle drugs from Mexico. Sniffer dogs at the border crossing in Laredo, Texas, alerted officials to the smell of narcotics in the 3 kilogram statue, which was in the trunk of a car being driven by a Mexican woman into the United States last week. “The statue tested positive for cocaine,” Nancy Herrera, an official at the US Attorney’s Office Southern District of Texas said.

Cocaine Jesus
2008-05-31 22:20:00
Federal agents last week arrested a Mexican national for allegedly paying a woman to smuggle into the U.S. a statue that was made of a dried cocaine paste. The carefully painted religious icon weighed about six pounds and would have had a street value of about $30,000. The statue was confiscated at a Texas border crossing after a drug-sniffing dog alerted to it during an inspection of a vehicle driven by a Mexican woman. The woman later told agents that she was paid $80 by a man who wanted the statue delivered to him at a Laredo bus station.RC Edrington

Jesus yes, church no
2008-05-23 07:03:00
From Dakota LI'll be honest. I haven't given up on Jesus, but church makes me wince. I've been very hurt by religion. I've made my own mistakes as well. I've grown up in church my entire life. I found this site after "Googling" Masters commission, as I was a first year student. I feel it created a lot of insecurities in people; I know it did for me.The no dating policy was more like "no looking in the opposite sex's general direction." I was even "confronted" for doing so in a large group of people. I had hardly had any communication with the opposite sex and was shy for the most part. Then I'm suppose to be made to feel like I am doing such an ungracious deed? I swear, it screwed me up psychologically. Even to this day, although I am happily married, I have trouble with the opposite sex. I feel very uncomfortable after being conditioned in Masters Commission. That is one thing I think was unhealthy. I was also prayed for and as the woman was praying she was screaming for the...

Sue Everhart: John McCain is Kind of Like Jesus Christ on the Cross
2008-05-21 07:02:00
It used to be common for Republicans to claim or believe that God was responsible for George W. Bush being president. It seemed to strike them as reasonable to think that their god would place Bush in the presidency to deal with problems like the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but not reasonable to wonder why their god didn't just stop the attacks in the first place. Given all of Bush's blunders throughout his presidency, I guess it's not surprising that they have forgotten to say that Bush was God's choice, but the principle of giving their candidates divine sanction has not disappeared entirely.  Sue Everhart, chairwoman of the Georgia Republican Party, was quoted as saying: "John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either." ..."I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she sa...

Once again the Sale Gods have been good to me...and I've been lucky enough to find something that I had given up all hope of getting my sticky little fingers on...and at a very good price, to boot. The item in question? The Officer dress from Heimstone's F/W 07 collection. I'd originally been drooling over the mustard version (which nobody in the US seemed to order) but the black and blue style was also terribly appealing (to my mind, at least...I've never been able to understand the whole "never wear black and ink blue together" diktat). On a side note I have to say that I'm very impressed with Heimstone's quality and details...the dress is made of a medium-thickness cotton, fully lined in silk...and all six buttons on the bib of the dress are functional (it's little things like that that I absolutely love...it's so easy to just stick a fake button on items that finding something with real, working buttons gives a girl more of a thrill than it probably should)...plus, it ...

Prayer Of St. Theresa Of The Child Jesus To The Holy Face
2008-05-15 18:04:00
O Jesus, who in Thy bitter Passion didst become "the most abject of men, aman of sorrows", I venerate Thy Sacred Face whereon there once did shine thebeauty and sweetness of the Godhead; but now it has become for me as if itwere the face of a leper! Nevertheless, under those disfigured features, Irecognize Thy infinite Love and I am consumed with the desire to love Theeand make Thee loved by all men.The tears which well up abundantly in Thy sacred eyes appear to me as somany precious pearls that I love to gather up, in order to purchase thesouls of poor sinners by means of their infinite value.O Jesus, whose adorable face ravishes my heart, I implore Thee to fix deepwithin me Thy divine image and to set me on fire with Thy Love, that I maybe found worthy to come to the contemplation of Thy glorious Face in Heaven.Amen.
Jesus Is Watching You!
2008-05-15 09:01:00
A burglar breaks into a house real late on night and as he is sneaking around the house with his flashlight, he hears a voice that loudly says, "Jesus is watching you!".The burglar, thinking he has been caught, stops in his tracks. Silence. So he starts looking through the house again when suddenly he hears, "Jesus is watching you!".Again the burglar stops in his tracks. After a few minutes he hears nothing, so he starts moving around again, and as before, hears "Jesus is watching you!". This time he hunts for the voice and finds a parrot sitting on a perch. The burglar askes the parrot if he said that and the parrot said, "yes". The burglar laughs and says "so, what's your name birdie?", and the Parrot replies, "Clarence". The burglar laughs even more and says, "What kind of idiot would name a Parrot "Clarence"?The parrot replies "The same idiot that named the rottweiller "Jesus".Hat tip: Mimi of Mimi Writes Tomorrow is The Weekend Story Game!
