2007-12-28 22:18:00 From WPLG Miami:FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A former major league baseball player left the Broward County Jail Friday after an 11-hour stay after being arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide.Police said Jim Leyritz was behind the wheel of a Ford SUV that collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Southwest Seventh Avenue and Second Street in the Himmarshee area of downtown Fort Lauderdale.The impact caused the other car to roll over. Police identified the female driver as Fredia Ann Veitch of Plantation. She was ejected from the vehicle and died after being taken to Broward General Medical Center, police said. Veitch was returning from her job at the Original Steakhouse in Fort Lauderdale. Police said she is the mother of two children, ages 5 and 13 years old.I always liked Leyritz, very sad story. According to Fort Lauderdale police, a car driven by Leyritz, a resident of Plantation, Fla., hit another car in the heart of Fort Lauderdale’s Himmarshee Street bar district early Friday morning. Leyritz was traveling northbound when he passed a red light and crashed with a westbound car at around 3:30 a.m., according to the Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale.
