Bobby Jindal & Getting Beyond Race
2008-06-08 07:24:00 One of the great things about seeing Barack Obama’s success in this year’s contest for the White House is seeing that less than a half-century after the height of the Civil Rights’ Movement, an African-American has become a serious contender for the highest office in the land. It will be a great day indeed when race ...

Conservatives Pumping Up Jindal For VP

McCain's last three veep choices-Jindal, Romney, and Crist
2008-05-22 15:22:00 I guess it's smart to send up this trial balloon. Let's see how the Corner and other conservatives react. Let's look at polls and see how this shakes out. I'm surprised by Pawlenty's absence. Of the three, I like Jindal because he's the freshest, both in age and ideas, although Jindal may highlight the age issue instead of diffuse it. Oddly, his Asian-ness may help McCain win back some of the college crowd for McCain. Romney just doesn't have electoral pull. The only reason conservatives liked him was that he was the conservative alternative to McCain. McCain's already up big in Florida and shouldn't need Crist. Story. John McCain is hosting several officials considered to be potential running mates at his Arizona retreat over the Memorial Day weekend — but his campaign insists the gathering is just a social affair. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee plans to host two-dozen guests, including Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and form...

Bobby Jindal by completing a full sweep of the governor’s proposed package of business tax cuts and $1.1 billion in surplus spending priorities.Jindal and his legislative allies won all the initiatives they set out to accomplish during the six-day session, including a controversial bill to grant a partial tax deduction for private school tuition. Flanked by many members of his supporting team of lawmakers at an evening news conference, the governor framed the results as a positive statement on Louisiana’s national image. “This group should be proud of batting a thousand,” Jindal said. “The country’s watching us … we know they’ll like what they see.” Correct. Sajjan Jindal of JSW Steel: Man of the moment
2008-02-04 18:12:00 By Vipin Agnihotri Sajjan Jindal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, JSW Steel, has come up with an ambitious programme in order to increase his presence in the core steel business. There are also indications that he is also interested in diversifying into the sectors such as power, cement, aluminium and infrastructure. Sajjan Jindal, the second son of the late O.P. Jindal is the most aggressive of the four Jindal brothers. For instance, he doesn?t like his businesses being called the Sajjan Jindal Group. As a matter of fact, he has named his company Jindal South West Holding (JSW) Group. In terms of statistic, Jindal at this moment of time has projects worth more than Rs 60,000 crore in his chosen sectors in various stages of implementation. It is worth mentioning in this regard that all the new verticals?energy, cement, aluminium and infrastructure? will tap the IPO market once financial closure is achieved. According to sources, Jindal is moving fast in the power business. It...

2008-01-16 23:51:00 Quite the shouting match going on over at Q&O, over that bit that Billy referenced earlier this morning. The subject? Well, I’m convinced about half of those involved don’t know and another 49% don’t understand it. For the first time in bloddy years, I find myself in some degree of agreement with Henke when he says… oh, well, go read his comment, here. And then Erb shows up and provides the comedy relief. It’s as I said; “So much of this argument surrounds contextual application of principle… and most of the context goes missing, in these discussions, so much so that it reminds me of the old saw about a lot of blind men giving their perceptions of an elephant, and each coming to their own conclusions, all of them both wildly different and wildly inaccurate in the whole, yet each observation holding truth within the context of each speaker’s realm of understanding.” They’re arguing from two different concepts, and contex...

Governor Piyush Bobby Jindal
2007-12-23 07:46:00 Bobby Jindal was elected Governor of Louisiana, becoming the first Indian American governor in the United States. The Indian American community, however, has mixed feelings about his triumph. A Republican, Jindal (36) won more than 50 per cent of the vote against a field of 12 candidates in the conservative southern state. He is the first nonWhite to become Louisiana’s governor since Reconstruction. “Let’s give our homeland, the great state of Louisiana, a fresh start,” Jindal told jubilant supporters. His nearest competitors: Democrat Walter Boasso won 18 per cent of the vote; Independent John Georges got 14 per cent; and Democrat Foster Campbell got 13 per cent. Jindal, an Oxford-educated Rhodes Scholar, had lost the gubernatorial election to Kathleen Babineaux Blanco four years ago. Since then, the mishandling of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 blew away Blanco’s re-election chances and she opted not to run again. She said, “My administration has beg...

Jindal Wins Easily
2007-10-21 17:25:00 The only real question in the Louisiana governor's race was whether or not Republican Rep. Bobby Jindal would reach 50% in Saturday's primary and avoid a November runoff against the runner-up. Yesterday Louisiana voters answered that question by giving Jindal 53% of the vote to elect him governor. None of the other 11 candidates reached 20% of the vote. Jindal will be the youngest governor in the nation when he is sworn in. Jindal's victory will open up his House seat representing Louisiana's 1st district, and it's expected that a special election will be held early next year to fill that seat. LA-01 is an overwhelmingly Republican district which gave Jindal 88% of the vote in 2006 and Bush 70% of the vote in the 2004 presidential race (his highest percentage in any LA CD), so his seat should be safe for Republicans.

Gubernatorial Watch: Jindal Wins In Louisiana
2007-10-21 15:16:00 The only real question heading into Saturday's jungle primary in Louisiana was whether or not Republican Congressman Bobby Jindal would garner enough support to avoid a November runoff. Jindal answered that question with a dominating performance throughout the state, earning 54% of the vote, avoiding the runoff, and more than tripling the total of his closest competitor. At 36, Jindal is set to become the youngest sitting governor in the United States."My mom and dad came to this country in pursuit of the American dream. And guess what happened. They found the American Dream to be alive and well right here in Louisiana," Jindal, the son of Indian immigrants, told cheering supporters last night. With 99% of precincts reporting, Democrat Walter Boasso finished with 226,114 votes (17%); Independent John Georges with 186,585 votes (14%); and Democrat Foster Campbell with 161,359 votes (12%)--all well behind the 698,835 votes Jindal earned. LA-Gov: Jindal Wins
2007-10-21 07:25:00 His victory was expected. He won 54% outright, avoiding a primary runoff. The combined Democratic vote was about 33%, with Walter Boasso on top at 18%. Independent John George received 14%.Interesting facts; George won New Orleans, with Jindal coming in second and Boasso third. In other races;Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu won reelection by a wide margin, winning 56% and carrying most of the New Orleans area, even heavily Republican St. Tammany and Plaquemines Parishes. He won nearly 90% of the vote in New Orleans, and took Baton Rouge and Shreveport by wide margins, but narrowly won Lake Charles.Attorney General Charles Foti was defeated, a runoff will take place between Democrat Buddy Caldwell, who came in first in the jungle primary, and Republican Royal Alexander. Caldwell did very well, carrying not only New Orleans, but narrowly losing heavily Republican St. Tammany Parish and winning Plaquemines and St. Bernard, both very Republican. Bobby Jindal Is An Idiot
2007-08-22 04:00:00 (Sigh - here we go again...).I know there are many tolerant Catholics possessing common sense and compassion who are just living their lives, have no desire to try and cram our beliefs down anyone else's throat and wish for all of us to just get along (like me). But why oh why is it that many of the Catholics in public life are intolerant, loudmouthed morons?Rep. Bobby Jindal is a Republican (surprised?) running for governor of Louisiana. Aside from hoping and praying and doing what I can to help the people of Louisiana whose lives were turned completely upside down by Katrina to get back on their feet, I couldn't give a fig about what happens in that state, politically, culturally, or otherwise. However, the fact that Jindal passes himself off as someone who represents my faith (he most certainly does not, as far as I'm concerned) is repellent and abhorrent to me to the point where I believe I have to speak out against him.So here is the YouTube video and this link to the Daily K...

Better News for Jindal: Breaux Won't Run
2007-04-14 06:53:00 Former US Senator John Breaux today announced he would not run for governor after Louisiana's Attorney General declined to state that Breaux met the state's residency requirement for holding office. Breaux was considered to be the Democrat with the best chance of defeating Republican US Representative Bobby Jindal in this fall's election. The Times-Picayune article on Breaux's withdrawal has this to say about other candidates, both announced and potential: Two Democrats have announced their candidacies so far: Public Service Commission member Foster Campbell of Elm Grove and the Rev. Raymond Brown of New Orleans, a civil rights activist. ... In the past, other Democrats who have been discussed as possible candidates include: Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, state Treasurer John Kennedy, former Seventh District U.S. Rep. Chris John of Crowley and former Attorney General Richard Ieyoub. Third District U.S. Rep. Good News for Jindal
2007-04-12 22:22:00 There are two news items containing good news about Republican Bobby Jindal's chances of becoming governor of Louisiana this week, both of which came to my attention via Political Wire. First, a poll commissioned by Republican John Georges, who is also running for governor, shows Jindal clearly leading in several hypothetical matchups involving Jindal, Democrat John Breaux, Georges, and other candidates in this fall's open primary but not reaaching 50%. However, Jindal gets 49% support in a hypothetical runoff against Breaux, the clear #2 preference in each primary poll, with 15% undecided. The other good news is that Jindal's campaign reportedly has already raised $5 million for this year's campaign, presenting a serious obstacle for Breaux, Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, and any others who are thinking about entering the governor's race.
