Joe Morgan, Here We Come! Cubs at Card 7:05 CT/8:05 ET
2008-05-04 23:27:00
Yes, you are a bunch of weiners So tonight not only do we have to endure the delicate genius and his team of Betty Ford All-Stars, but we also get to listen to the illustrous Joe Morgan give us his take on the game. On the one hand, this will make some of your heads explode (and you know who you are), so you should watch with the sound off. On the other hand, this should give us enough Quote Box material to last the entire season, so I expect those of you with stronger constitutions to be taking notes. Especially any time Ryan Theriot comes up to bat. Now then. Allow me to take a moment to address the "Rich Hill Situtation." (Doesn't it feel like there's ALWAYS a Rich Hill Situation of one sort or another?) Some of you have suggested that, as I commented degoratively on Rich's tears, that I have a heart of stone or aversion to seeing grown men cry. Not so. In fact, I will point out that Aragorn teared up a LOT on LOTR, and nothing could have been sexier. Furthermore, Brett Favre ...
Game Review: MLB 2K8 Review (How I Learned to Appreciate Joe Morgan)
2008-04-22 01:52:00
While it’s difficult to hit the cutoff man in MLB 2K8, at least you’re soothed by Jeanne Zelasko’s voice (well, if you’re Andy, you are). When I was much younger, back in those college days, I?d have some rough weekend mornings. I?m talking about times when the only evidence of your existence from the previous evening ...
Dusty's Back
2007-10-20 02:43:00
The Cincinnati Reds, a struggling organization that hasn't made the playoffs since 1995, have hired as their new manager Dusty Baker, a flailing manager-turned-ESPN-analyst who hasn't been respected since he contributed to the demise of the Prior/Wood combination. This certainly doesn't seem like a good move to me, the casual (but very well-informed) observer. Thus, by the law of zany Joe-Morgan-ness, Joe Morgan must think this is a good move.CLEVELAND ? Joe Morgan has one question for any Reds fan unsettled by Dusty Baker's hiring as the team's new manager. "People are going to criticize anything, but were they happy with what happened before?" the Hall of Famer wondered Tuesday night before broadcasting Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on ESPN Radio.Of course they weren't happy with what came before. As I already pointed out, they haven't made the playoffs in over a decade. Not being happy with the current management, however, is not justification for bring...
Sean Hillenbrand?
2007-08-27 02:46:00
Sunday Night Baseball; top of the second. Joe Morgan just referred to Shea Hillenbrand as "Sean Hillenbrand" twice. Moments later he correctly called him Shea. You think somebody whispered in his ear?Not quite finished, Joe picked up where he left off in the next half-inning, referring to Marlon Anderson as "Marlon Byrd." Byrd, of course, plays for the Rangers, whereas Anderson is a Met.
LOHO Presents the Joe Morgan Drinking Game: Mets @ Cubs 7:05 CDT
2007-08-06 00:08:00
The Crew fell to the Phils today in exta innings, 8-6. So tonight, once again, we play for shared possession of first place, which means you really aren't going to want to miss this game. Unfortunately for all of us, tonight's game is on ESPN, meaning that Jon Miller and his bumbling sidekick will be calling the game. Unless you're one of those techy guys who has managed to sync up your radio and your tv so you can listen to Pat and Ron without delay, this ought to make the game damn near unbearable for us. Perhaps ESPN will even throw Dusty in as a sideline reporter tonight. But never fear. LOHO has a plan in store to make this game something that most of us can stand, and even enjoy, courtesy of the Joe Morgan Drinking Game! The rules are simple. We drink whenever any of the following occur: 1. Joe mindlessly praises a player for something every player in the league probably does 2. Joe starts babbling about Jose Reyes 3. Joe mentions his playing days/induction into the HOF 4....
Joe Morgan at his old antics
2007-08-01 05:44:00
During a Cubs commercial break tonight, I made my robotic and regular switch to ESPN, and was pleased to hear my favorite commentator in the entire world doing the Tuesday Night Baseball game between the Giants and Dodgers: Joe Morgan. Imagine my surprise when Morgan immediately delighted me with yet another one of his wonderful stories of the days of yore. Considering his earlier complete fabrication of a story from his rookie year, my cynical ears were keenly fixed to the telly. This one was one of his self-proclaimed “favorite stories to tell,” and involved his first meeting with Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax, who Morgan faced a total of 10 times in 1965, his first full season with the Astros. Morgan went on to tell us than in his first three at-bats against Koufax, he struck out three times on a total of nine pitches. According to ‘ol Joe, it wasn’t until his fourth at-bat that he made contact on a soft groundout. When the play-by-play guy (I think it...
At Least Joe Morgan Won't Be Calling The Game: All-Star Game Open Thread
2007-07-11 00:56:00
Yes, it's boring, jingositic, self-indulgent and a blatant popularity contest. However, it DOES determine who gets home field advantage in the WS, and as long as our making the post-season remains a mathematical possibility, this interests me. Starting tonight for the AL is Dan Haren (10-3, 2.30)of the A's. While there's no doubt that Haren is having a terrific season, a man more in need of a makeover I have never seen: In what part of America is this look okay? This is in stark contrast to Jake Peavy (9-3, 2.19), who actually looks sort of devilishly handsome in this photo. That's when he's not striking out our entire lineup, in which case he looks like an orangutan's ass: Note to men everywhere: you can't go wrong with a black button-down shirt. It makes you all look like Johnny Cash/Elvis. Irresistible to women. The good news tonight is that we don't have to listen to Joe Morgan and Captain Toothpick prattle on about the good ol' days during the entire game tonight. T...
