Joe Stevenson Training for BJ Penn UFC 80 Fight, Video
2008-01-17 19:36:00 Raw Vegas recently interviewed Joe Stevenson at the Cobra Kai gym in Vegas regarding his upcoming UFC 80 title fight against BJ Penn. Joe was asked how he feels about this title shot. He states that’s his dream since he started watching the sport at age 11. Raw Vegas show some training action with Coach Marc Laimon. Joe was working heavily on his ground game in the footage. Considering that Joe is fighting an exceptional ground fighter, this would make a lot of sense for his training regime. You can see the Joe Stevenson training for UFC 80 BJ Penn fight video below.
Penn and Stevenson to star in ?Rapid Fire? clash
2008-01-17 01:52:00 B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson must travel across the Atlantic Ocean to take the vacant lightweight title at UFC 80 in Newcastle, England. For Stevenson, a wealth of experience, a distinct side advantage, and a relentless attack make his claim to the gold legitimate. Shogun, Sherk Make UFC 84 Card Great
2008-01-10 20:27:00 According to different reports by MMAJunkie.com, both Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Sean Sherk have been added to a Montreal event in April. This same event is expected to host the title unification match between Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra.Shogun will be returning from his disappointing submission loss to Forrest Griffin and attempting to gain his first win inside the Octagon. Had Shogun won his fight at UFC 76, he would have been afforded an immediate title shot against Champion Quinton Jackson. Now, Shogun finds himself near the middle of a strong light heavyweight division and badly needing a win.Even more urgent is the plight of Sean Sherk, who was stripped of his belt after testing positive for Nandrolone following his UFC 73 win against Hermes Franca. He has been told that his first fight back will be for the title, so this UFC 84 match up should be against either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson. Sherk needs to win to gain back both his title and his credibility.Georges St. P...

Sean Sherk Interview
2008-01-05 02:53:00 Writer Ben Zeidler recently caught up with Sean Sherk to discuss just about every aspect of the steroid controversy, his feelings on BJ Penn, and the Lay ?N Pray style he?s often criticized for. Here are the highlights of that interview. Originally conducted for MMA MadnessBen Zeidler: What?s the story with your title being stripped considering you?re eligible to return in January? It doesn?t make sense to me.Sean Sherk: You know, Dana basically said that he wants to stay consistent with what he has done in the past. In the past, if you did it or not, you got the belt stripped. He believes that I didn?t do it and I know that I didn?t do it, but the belt gets stripped. That?s just the way it is.BZ: Are you pleased with the announcement that you?ll get the winner of Penn-Stevenson?SS: I knew that already. As soon as they told me that they were taking it [the belt], they said my first fight back would be against the winner. To be honest with you, I still feel like I am champion and th...

UFC 80 Betting Odds: BJ Penn vs Joe Stevenson
2008-01-03 03:25:00 This should be a great fight but not that great of a betting opportunity...Unless you believe Stevenson is going to catch BJ in a guillotine.Best Odds: BJ Penn (-280 BetUS), Joe Stevenson (+235 Sportsbook)Not to take too much away from Joe "Daddy" but, he's yet to face a top 10 Lightweight, his best move is a guillotine, and his stand up is one step above Matt Hughes. In Joe's last fight with Pelligrino it was easy to see the holes in his game. Kurt opened up the fight picking Joe apart from the outside as he continually moved straight forward. Next, Kurt took Joe down repeatedly to control the first half of the fight. Of course during that first half Joe attempted 6 guilotines. In the second half, Kurt seemed to gas and Joe was able to turn the tide and applied some nice GnP. However, even with Kurt gassed Daddy was unable to get close to finishing the fight and on several occasions left himself wide open for some sloppy sub attempts by Pelligrino. Every fight is new, but Joe has ...
Sherk Stripped Of Title
2007-12-09 22:54:00 UFC officials have confirmed that now ex-champ Sherk has been stripped of his Lightweight title. This is in contrast to White's promise that Sherk would remain the champion due to the lack of professionalism with which the investigation proceeded. The decision to strip Sherk is made even more puzzling by the fact that the suspension was to end in January, just days after the interim title was to be awarded to either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson. After his UFC 73 win over Hermes Franca, Sherk tested positive for Nandrolone. Unlike the Nevada State Athletic Commission, California's doesn't reserve the right to overturn a fight's decision (in this case, a win by Sherk). The CSAC went on to suspend Sherk for a year, but after an appeal and many questions regarding the validity and court's proceedings, Sherk's suspension was reduced to six months. Since the suspension is retroactive to the Franca fight, Sherk is technically eligible to return to the Octagon in late January.Since the ...

Sherk Eligible To Fight In January
2007-12-04 22:44:00 According to information received from the CSAC, Sherk?s suspension has been reduced to six months, from one year. As is standard in suspensions, Sherk receives credit for time already served, which means he is eligible to return to mixed martial arts competition in January. (As reported by MMAJunkie.com)Sherk, who defended his title with a unanimous-decision victory over Hermes Franca in July, tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, during an event drug test. The event took place July 7 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and the California State Athletic Commission subsequently suspended Sherk one year and fined him $2,500.Sherks? original hearing was set for August. However, after securing the services of accomplished doping lawyer Howard Jacobs, Sherk was granted an extension for the appeal, which took place Oct. 31. However, key paperwork submitted by Jacobs was not distributed to commission members prior to the hearing, and the co...

IWF Exclusive: The Future Of The UFC
2007-11-11 06:18:00 Although we have a set title fight in our sights (Hughes vs. Serra), a slightly deeper look into the ranks of the UFC will give us a more accurate picture of how the sport should shape up over the next six months. While feuds and rivalries culminate in once-a-month events, the sport is built between those events as every member of the roster fights, bargains, and even pleads for a title shot. The following is a look at each division and who is fighting for the title.Heavyweights: With Andrei Arlovski missing his new contract, Cro Cop dropping fights like he was bought off, and Couture temporarily out of the fight game, the whole division is really up for grabs. It?s unlikely that White would simply award the belt to the winner of an upcoming fight as it wouldn?t make sense for Kongo or Nogueira to receive a title with very little UFC experience under their belts. He could justify giving it to Sylvia as he was the last guy to hold the belt and is fresh off a win, but I doubt he?d...

UFC 80 Rapid Fire - Joe Stevenson vs BJ Penn
2007-11-06 17:44:00 It has just been announced that UFC 80 Rapid Fire will take place at Newcastle England on January 19th, 2008. The main event for the night will be Joe Stevenson versus BJ Penn for the interim world lightweight championship bout. Coming off of a loss to Randy Couture, Gabriel Gonzaga will be entering the ring with Fabricio Werdum. Expect another great event from the UK.
Sherk Not Stripped; Penn-Stevenson For Interim
2007-11-04 20:33:00 According to UFC President Dana White, Sean Sherk will not be stripped of his Lightweight title, but BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson will have the opportunity to fight for an interim belt.Yahoo! Sports reported this:White had vowed to strip Sherk of the title, but said Friday that he no longer plans to do so."The way this whole thing has been handled has been a mess," White said.He said Penn and Stevenson, who said he learned on Tuesday that he and his wife will have another son, will fight for the interim title as the main event of UFC 80 in Newcastle, England, likely on Jan. 19.The winner of that bout would then presumably face Sherk once Sherk's status is defined by the commission.White said heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabricio Werdum would meet in the co-main on UFC 80.This is an excellent move by Dana White. It would have been a mistake to let an entire division become stagnant for a year simply because the President felt the appeal was not handled properly. Instead, White ha...

I Double Dog Bet You
2007-08-21 03:45:00 There are a couple of dog bets on this card that if made together have some value. I don't think both of them will happen, but I do think at least one will and the odds are good enough to take both bets to lighten your exposure.Don't take these as straight picks, this bet is based on two fighters being very over valued right now. The first is Roger Huerta, the second is Joe Stevenson. Both of these fighters have been put to the test several times and have also found great popularity. Most of the betting public is looking well past these two fights simply believing they are up against lesser competition. Suffice it to say I think the odds should be much closer on these two fights. So without the usual fight analysis, here's the bet with the best lines. I'm splitting a single bet evenly between these two lines.Kurt Pelligrino +260 (Sportsbook)Alberto Crane +350 (Bodog)This is definitely a risky bet so as always risk what you are willing to lose. You wanna make a bet.... |
