Steelers Trivia
2008-07-08 13:48:00 I received a Pittsburgh Steelers calendar as a gift last December which proudly sits on my office desk. It is a daily calendar which alternates between a Steelers fact and a Steelers trivia question. Unfortunately, the calendar seems to focus on a Steeler player drafted recently and spends at least a week on this individual. I feel like I know more about Marvin Philip and Trai Essex than most people should. Last week?s featured player: Clark Haggans.July 2: Linebacker Clark Haggans began his college career at Colorado State as a walk-on defensive end before going on to become the school?s all-time sacks leader.July 3: Steelers linebackers Clark Haggans and Joey Porter were college teammates. At what school did they play together?Really? Besides the fact that Joey Porter hasn?t been on the Steelers since the 2006-2007 season, does the maker of the calendar really think you have no short-term memory? Even if you didn?t know that Haggans attended Colorado State, I would hope tha...

Comparison: Joey Porter vs Adalius Thomas
2008-02-05 06:04:00 You know, the NFL is funny. Many times, when free agents get signed, the media loves to jump all over the deal. They'll either declare these signings as "great deals" or argue that it was a "terrible deal." Just last year, we saw this kind of reaction involving the Dolphins and the Patriots. Everyone said the Patriots deal for Adalius Thomas was so great. But then everyone said the Dolphins overpaid for Joey Porter. Then, because the Dolphins sucked this year and the Patriots were, we'll say, pretty good, we heard all about how the Joey Porter signing by the Dolphins was so terrible. And sure, it doesn't look like it was a good deal. But what we never heard about was how the Adalius Thomas signing by New England was just as questionable. First, consider the stats: Player Tackles Sacks Ints TDs PDs FFs FRs TFLs Adalius Thomas 79 6.5 1 1 8 2 0 6 Joey Porter 66 5.5 2 0 ...

Cam Cameron, Randy Muller, and Joey Porter To Be Out At Miami Dolphins - Pr
2007-12-28 16:51:00 If this is true, then Bill Parcells is cleaning house big time. The organization needs a shake-up. I would link to the specific place where this is, but they don't have a standard blog system, so I can't. "SWEEPING CHANGES" COMING IN MIAMIA source with knowledge of the situation in South Florida tells us that "sweeping changes" are most likely coming for the Dolphins. And soon.Coach Cam Cameron? Out. General Manager Randy Mueller? Out as soon as Monday, even though he's been doing research all year for free agency and the draft. We're told that Parcells already has been working directly with the league office to obtain the appropriate permissions to hire Cowboys V.P. of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland. As Peter King of SI.com pointed out earlier in the week in his MMQB column, Parcells' contract makes clear that he merely is the overseer of the football operations."We set it up so the general manager I hire will have that authority. I want to make it clear: I don'...
See SpongeBob, Dora and Um, Joey Porter and Cleo Lemon
2007-12-13 12:52:00 It is tough being a Miami Dolphins fan these days. The team is 0-13 and has an excellent chance of being the first team in NFL history to compile a 0-16 season. It?s probably not much fun working for the Miami Dolphins at this time either. If you work for the Dolphins, how can you encourage fans to attend your games? Apparently, someone has an idea; two ideas in fact. The first is Kids Day at Dolphin Stadium. According to the Miami Dolphins website, ?December 30th is Kids Day at Dolphin Stadium. The Grand Plaza will be jam-packed with kids interactive activities including a special visit by Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer as well as Nickelodeon interactive games, face painters, NFL Experience-type activities, Dolphins alumni, cheerleaders and much more. After the pre-game fun, kids will experience the emotion and glory of the NFL when the Dolphins take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the final game of the 2007 season.? It?s nice of the team to mention ...

Joey Porter Needs to Back Up His Mouth
2007-10-11 21:03:00 I don’t know about the rest of you Dolfan’s but I was semi excited when we signed Joey Porter in the offseason. I thought what a great combo JP and JT would make rushing off the edge and tormenting opposing quarterbacks. Now I wasn’t fooling myself, I knew J-Peezy had lost a step ...

Joey Porter Injury Update
2007-08-24 18:44:00 The Sun-Sentinel is reporting that Joey Porter believes his recovery is ahead of schedule, but he will still be careful and not rush himself back onto the field. With that said, his goal is still to be on the field September 9 in Washington and he's confident that he'll meet his goal as long as he doesn't push himself to get back on the practice field too soon. Here's what Porter himself said: "I feel like I'm a fast healer. That's a good thing. The natural competitor in me makes me want to get out there. But I have to think about the big picture. It's still preseason. It's still training camp. If it's Week 6, Week 7 [into the season], you'll normally tend to push yourself earlier so you won't miss any games." "I feel good. The range of motion is there. I've been working on it pretty good, getting my strength back in it. It's a process. Some days you feel better than you think you are. But I have to realize it's only been two weeks since I had surgery." Tha...

NFL Notes - Eric Parker, Lamont Jordan, Joey Porter
2007-08-07 19:44:00 Most of the NFL news out of training camp that is important to fantasy players is news about injuries. This is no exception. Eric Parker, WR, SD -- Everybody has been gushing over "sleeper" third-year WR Vincent Jackson in San Diego this summer. The news that Chargers #1 WR Eric Parker is out for ten weeks with a knee injury will only increase the hype. The problem is that Jackson now steps into the lead WR role, and that means he faces the top defender each week. Jackson was a nice sleeper as a #2 WR but I think he's one of the poorer #1 wide receivers in the NFL. The guy that benefits the most from Parker's injury is rookie Craig Davis, who now takes over as the #2 in San Diego. LaDanian Tomlinson also is likely to benefit by seeing more passes, which makes him even more valuable in PPR leagues. Joey Porter, LB, Miami -- If you're a sports fan, you know what the phrase "...sought a second opinion from specialist Dr. James Andrews...

Joey Porter Gets Scoped
2007-08-07 18:41:00 Ask and you shall receive. I was hoping to hear news on Joey Porter, and the Palm Beach Post has delivered: Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, who has an injured right knee, underwent arthroscopic surgery this morning in Birmingham, Ala., coach Cam Cameron said. Cameron had no specifics but said Porter is "not hurt badly." The coach said he would provide more specifics later. So he's likely out 2-4 weeks. Now, Porter has a good history of recovering from surgery quickly andh as undergone this procedure before so he knows what to expect when recovering. The article says the Dolphins hope to have him ready for the season opener. I'm going to go so far as to say Joey Porter WILL be ready for the opener. It's likely he's ready to practice by Labor Day. But either way, he'll be out there in Washington.

Dolphin Camp Update, Joey Porter Has Surgery (Tuesday)
2007-08-07 17:40:00 Picture courtesy of the Sun-Sentinel Hot fresh camp updates here. I figured I would drop one of these every couple of days. Joey Porter/Channing Crowder Update
2007-08-06 18:55:00 Well, PFT was wrong...for now. Joey Porter has not undergone arthroscopic knee surgery. Instead, he's actually in Alabama visiting Dr. James Andrews. What this means is that he does indeed have "something" bothering him that's a bit more serious than just a day-to-day thing. What I'm worried about is that if he ends up having to undergo the scope, he could end up missing regular-season games if he puts it off for too long. I think that if Porter needs the procedure, then do it now so he will be ready for week one in Washington. Cameron said that he hopes to know more later today. And so do all of us fans! **UPDATE**: The Miami Herald is also reporting that Porter has gone to see Andrews. Also, it does seem that a scope is a possibility. However, here are Zach Thomas's thoughts on how long it takes to recover from that type of prodecure: I don't know what he got diagnosed with, but, even myself, I've been in training camp and got ...

Report: Joey Porter Underwent Surgery, Out Until Week 1
2007-08-06 15:00:00 Joey Porter has been on the sidelines all weekend during Dolphin’s training camp and it’s no secret that Cam Cameron is a tad worried about his prized offseason acquisition. Joey Porter E-mail Time
2007-07-26 18:36:00 Here's an e-mail I recently received that comes from a Steelers fan named Ben. He was responding to an article I wrote a few weeks back that compared Joey Porter and Adalius Thomas. Here's what he had to say: Hey, Steeler fan here wanting to chime in about your article comparing Thomas to Porter. One crucial thing I think you missed out is that opposing teams double team Terrell Suggs and/or Ray Lewis, leaving Thomas to make a lot of plays. In Pittsburgh, Porter was the guy they double teamed most of the time (although Hampton takes up a lot of space, he's in the middle and not often in the same territory as Porter). When Thomas hits New England, they'll probably be expecting him to lead the line and teams will regularly double team him for probably the first time in his career. When Porter hits Miami, he'll be opposite the guy who I consider one of the very best front 7 players of his generation in Jason Taylor. Porter's not going to have to face up to being doubl...

Dolphin Matter: Joey Porter Fined, Satele Signed

Schefter: Joey Porter to be fined, not suspended
2007-07-20 00:23:00 This comes courtesy of ProFootballTalk: Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to fine Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter three game checks for pleading no contest to battery against Bengals left tackle Levi Jones at a Las Vegas casino. The incident occurred not long after Porter signed a contract with the Dolphins, which includes $20 million in guaranteed money. At a base salary of $800,000, a fine of three game checks equals more than $141,000. But the good news for the Dolphins and Porter is that no suspension will be imposed. Frankly, we think that the team lobbied the Commish aggressively to refrain from parking Porter, citing the fact that the Fins are giving up a home game this year in an effort to advance the league's European experiment. You know what, I don't care what the reason is. The fact that Porter will not miss any games is all I needed to hear!! That's great news. Now, we just have to hop...

Joey Porter vs Adalius Thomas
2007-07-05 09:41:00 This offseason, the Dolphins' big splash in free agency was the signing of OLB Joey Porter. Miami loved Porter because he would fill a void at OLB opposite of Jason Taylor in the 3-4 while providing a nastiness that a Miami defense hasn't had since Bryan Cox was down here in south beach. However, the mainstream media has been pretty relentless in calling the Porter signing by Miami a "bad move." Of course, up in New England, they signed a player named Adalius Thomas and the media is singing their praises and kissing their asses. In fact, I think ESPN still has a little brown stuff on their noses. They might want to wash that off. Anyway, what I wanted to do was compare the two players to see if the media really does have a right to rip Miami's move while praising New England's move. So, first we look at age. Both players will be 30 years old once September rolls around. Porter has missed just 6 games over his career while Thomas has missed just 3. Porter was an intri...

2007-05-31 17:00:00 Joey Porter has finally gotten the legal issues revolving him out of the way, now he might have to deal with the real legal system, the NFL. Joey Porter entered a guilty/no contest plea on a misdemeanor battery charge through his attorney, Karen Winckler. As a result, Porter was punished with a $1,000 fine, ...

2007-03-19 15:58:00 A football player got arrested in an incident with a Cincinnati Bengal and it wasn’t a Bengal! Marvin Lewis certainly is turning that team around. Hell, the Bengal was even the victim. Joey Porter, perhaps feeling disrespected, punched Levi Jones in the face at the Palms ...

It’s nice to have player presser’s back now that Nick is gone. If your using crappy Internet Explorer, check the presser here. ?We?re excited to be able to add Joey to our football team,? said Dolphins Head Coach Cam Cameron. ?He is an impact player who will add many different dimensions to our defense. In the time I was with San Diego, he was a player that you always had to account for when preparing to face the Steelers. In addition, he is familiar with the type of defense that we will run under Dom Capers, and we feel his addition will be a great fit for our team.? BTW. Real player sucks. Joey Porter to the Dolphins Confirmed
2007-03-06 17:14:03 Yeah you have read the reports of Randy Mueller and Cam Cameron flying to Joey Porter’s Bakersfield, California home to wine him and dine him. That’s old news. I had a nice bit of info pop up in my feedreader this morning. Report’s are surfacing via a WPXI.com that Joey Porter has a contract from the Dolphins… Overnight, Channel 11’s Ably Excreter learned the Pro Bowler has agreed to a five-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. Sources said the deal includes about $24 million in guaranteed money and a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $12 million. Porter is expected to sign his new contract on Tuesday in Miami. Joey Porter, your the next contestant to play on one of the nastiest LB crews in the NFL, come on down!!! Things keep looking better and better for the Phins as Cam and Randy overhaul this team. News last night also reported kicker Jay Feely visited with the Phins and Donte Stallworth has a visit setup with the Phins as early as today....
