A pal of the couple said that the Cleese and Alyce Faye Eichelberger Cleese, an American-born psychotherapist, had decided that their relationship was at an end, but that there was no one else involved in the decision to separate. The split comes after the comedian is understood to have become ‘melancholy’ in recent months following sad demises of several close friends.
