Kerry Challenger Fails To Qualify For Ballot
2008-06-03 23:58:00
On today, the day that Barack Obama clinches the Democratic nomination, I had been thinking back to 2004 and John Kerry’s (much quicker) victory for the nomination. While there really has not been much doubt for a while that Obama would win the presidential nomination this year and that John Kerry would be reelected to ...

Hillary?s Last Hurrah
2008-05-14 07:38:00
As widely expected, the Hillbillies for Hillary gave Clinton her last hurrah in West Virginia. She’ll win again in Kentucky, but the win will be offset by victory for Obama in Oregon where Clinton is far behind in the polls, including among women. She is also favored in Puerto Rico, but by that time she ...

Hillary Clinton Continues Negative Campaign
2008-05-10 01:31:00
There’s been speculation now that pretty much everyone realizes that the race is over and Obama has won the nomination that Hillary Clinton would at least drop the negative campaigning if she remained in the race. Clinton sure has proven those who believed that to be wrong. She launched another negative and misleading attack against ...

Kerry Takes On MSNBC Over Wright Questions

John Kerry: "Obama Can Because He's A Black Man"
2008-03-20 20:30:00
?I<BR>elect an African American president" href="http://firstread.msnbc.ms-n.com/archive/2008/03/20/787719-.aspx">t would be such an affirmation of who we say we are as a people if we can elect an African American president, a young leader who is obviously a visionary and got an ability to inspire people,? Kerry said. ?It will give us an ability to talk to those countries, to in some cases go around their dictator leaders to the people and inspire the people in ways that we can?t otherwise.? The Massachusetts senator said Obama has an ability to perhaps even empower moderate Islam ?to be able to stand up against the racial misinterpretation of a legitimate religion.? Asked by a reporter what gave Obama the credibility to do so, Kerry said, ?Because he?s African American. Because he?s a black man, who has come from a place of oppression and repression through the years in our own country. We only broke the back of civil rights, Jim Crow, in the 1960s here. Everybody in the world...

McCain Embraces Bush, Democrats Rejoice?
2008-03-05 21:44:00
John McCain visited the White House today to receive the endorsement of President Bush. It does not push McCain to the nomination--the Arizona Senator wrapped that up on his own, finally dispatching the pesky Mike Huckabee with wins in Ohio and Texas yesterday. Nor was it particularly surprising--the Republican president was certainly going to give the blessing to his apparent heir. The event was monumental nonetheless. His appearance with Bush today, months after his campaign was declared dead and eight years after his bitter primary battle with the then-Texas Governor ended in stinging defeat, caps a roller coaster ride for John McCain. In 2000, it was clear the two men shared distaste for one another, culminating with Bush's primary win in South Carolina. Rumors of dirty politics and a smear campaign left McCain resentful. McCain only begrudgingly endorsed Bush after conceding that race and was a thorn in his side for much of his presidency. After flirting with the possibi...
Obama: $35 million? I Got You Beat
2008-02-29 07:27:00
Barack Obama speaks at a campaign rally. Photo by: Flickr On Thursday, Senator Clinton?s campaign announced that they had raised more than $35 million dollars in the month of February. The money problems at the Clinton campaign seem to be over for the time being. Just over a month ago, Senator Clinton had to loan her own campaign $5 million dollars as it struggled to raised the necessary campaign funds. January produced $13 million dollars in funds for Senator Clinton. February?s numbers which are expected to be more than $35 million dollars for Clinton, is nearly three times as much as she raised in January. February surpassed all other months for Senator Clinton for fundraising. Barack Obama raised $36 million dollars in January to Senator Clinton?s $13 million dollars. So what did the Obama campaign have to say when they heard how much she had raised in February? We got that, and some. Aides for Senator Obama told reporters that they had raised con...

McCain to Obama: I Can?t Raise Obama Kinds of Money
2008-02-21 08:29:00
Photo by Marc Nozell used under a Creative Commons License McCain is crying foul saying that Barack Obama has gone against his word on agreeing to take public financing for the general election. According to Reuters, Obama agreed last February to accept public financing for his campaign and therefore agree to the limitations on spending. Obama said he would agree to this as long as the Republican candidate agreed to do the same. The limitations would mean only $84.1 million dollars could be spent per candidate in the general election. These limitations would certainly be more of a limitation to Barack Obama than to John McCain. John McCain, the once bankrupt candidate early in the Republican primary, may end up facing the fundraising champion of this presidential race, Barack Obama in November. Barack Obama has received donations from almost 1 million people from the beginning of his campaign. In the month of January, Obama raised $36 million dollars. Th...
What's The Point?
2008-02-15 13:09:00
At Wednesday?s Congressional hearing, Larry Breuer, one of Roger Clemens? attorneys, seemed pretty upset at how things were going and showed his displeasure by pointing at someone as pictured here. So who was he pointing at? It couldn?t have been Giuliani since Rudy is a Yankees fan (I think). Maybe they are both pointing at John Kerry was who is a Red Sox fan (I believe). Is that why John Kerry is ready to fight only to be held back by Barack Obama? There is only one who can stop this senseless pointing!I admit this was a pretty stupid post. I just saw the picture of Breuer pointing (courtesy of Jonathan Newton, The Washington Post) and wanted to share other pictures of people pointing. Have a nice weekend!
John Kerry goes bigger and less green, switches from Escape to Tahoe hybrid
2008-02-15 06:04:00
Click image for photo galleryDid you know that going from a vehicle that's rated at 34/30 mpg to one that gets 21/22 mpg is helping to "fight global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions?" That's what Senator John Kerry's (D-MA) deputy chief of staff, David Wade, would have people believe. Since when is going to a vehicle with 34 percent worse mileage than the one you just had good for the environment? Apparently, Sen. Kerry has decided to get rid of his 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid in favor of the Green Car of the Year, the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid. Not to take anything away from the Tahoe, because the 2-Mode hybrid system is a technological marvel and provides shockingly good fuel economy for a vehicle of this size and capability, but this isn't a green switch. Gallery: 2008 GM 2-Mode Hybrid SUVsUnless Kerry is planning to cart around eight people in his Tahoe (which as a politician he may well be doing, but I doubt they 're all in his car) instead of using multiple vehicles, ther...

The Impact Of Endorsements
2008-02-07 06:57:00
In the wake of Tuesday's de facto national primary, how much did endorsements really matter? The most obvious case study is in Massachusetts, where Barack Obama had the support of Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, with a combined 70 years of service for the state, as well as Governor Deval Patrick. Though Obama trailed by huge margins just a few weeks ago, recent polling had him closing fast. Clinton, however, won the state by 15 points last night, 56%-41%. The Obama campaign will note that he had a significant deficit to make up in a short amount of time and that Kennedy was used more in other parts of the country. Still, a loss is a loss and the size of this one is somewhat surprising--something that is certainly not lost on the Clinton campaign. When asked if she could compete next week in Virginia, where Obama has the support of Governor Tim Kaine, Clinton said, "I recall the governor and both senators in Massachusetts endorsed my opponent. I think we'll do fine."Kenned...
Decision Time For Romney
2008-02-06 21:32:00
In the wake of a disastrous night that saw rival John McCain win half of the delegates available and Mike Huckabee pick up surprising wins perhaps at his expense, Mitt Romney has a decision to make. He can continue to pump millions of his own fortune into what, by most observations, seems to be a losing battle or he can bow out now in hopes of getting a leg for the nomination in 2012 or 2016. Romney is apparently meeting with his top advisers today to determine his future and his decision could extend the process into the Spring or begin the healing between McCain and the conservative base.To go on would mean a continued personal investment into his campaign for the smallest of chances at securing the nomination. Facing a massive delegate deficit, Romney would need to claim nearly all of the remaining delegates to win the nomination. With many upcoming states holding proportional contests, Romney would have to win by huge margins to pull off such a feat. No, it's not impossibl...

The Democratic Daily Rewrites History on Clinton?s Position on War

The Democratic Daily attempts to once again sell the fairy tale that Clinton’s views did not differ from Obama’s on the war. There are major flaws in this rewriting of history. John Kerry: “Bill Clinton Doesn’t Have License To Abuse The Truth”
2008-01-25 22:57:00
From CNN: John Kerry, the Democratic Party’s 2004 nominee for president, took aim at Bill Clinton Friday, telling the National Journal the former president does “not have a license to abuse the truth.” The Massachusetts senator, who endorsed Barack Obama’s White House bid earlier this month, said Clinton’s criticisms of the Illinois senator have been “over the top,” and suggested the former president is getting “frantic.” Targeting Clinton’s recent spate of attacks on Obama, Kerry said, “I think you had an abuse of the truth, is what happened. …I mean, being an ex-president does not give you license to abuse the truth, and I think that over the last days it’s been over the top. “I think it’s very unfortunate, but I think the voters can see through that,” Kerry added. “When somebody’s coming on strong and they are growing, people get a little frantic, and I think people have seen t...

Kerry Defends Obama From Clinton Smear Campaign

Senate Watch: Rankings
2008-01-22 22:15:00
Our rankings are supersized this month, with blurbs about all 35 races across the country. Our top ten remains largely unchanged, with the open seat race in Mississippi joining the list for the first time. Mitch McConnell's race in Kentucky fell from the top ten after Democrats failed to get a top tier recruit to face the minority leader.1. Virginia (Open-R) [1]: Former Democratic Governor Mark Warner (pictured) continues to have smooth sailing on his way to the Senate. His likely opponent, former Governor Jim Gilmore, has drawn a challenge from Bob Marshall, that further complicates his chances. Gilmore should survive in a party convention, but Warner has shown no signs of slowing. Most polling gives him a lead of 15-20 points, but the Old Dominion is very much a swing state, so Warner shouldn't get too comfortable. VERDICT: Likely Democratic takeover2. New Mexico (Open-R) [3]: While Representatives Steve Pearce (pictured) and Heather Wilson duke it out in the Republican pr...

It's time to check in again on the Senate races that are developing around the country. We will be out with new Senate rankings tomorrow. IdahoFormer Congressman Larry LaRocco (pictured) has released his fundraising figures, bringing in $165,000 during the fourth quarter. The Democrat has $172,000 in the bank. LaRocco will likely face Republican Lt. Governor Jim Risch in the race to succeed scandal-plagued Larry Craig. For his part, Craig is continuing to give Idaho Republicans headaches. Craig recently penned an editorial claiming that he remains an effective senator for the state, despite many of his Senate colleagues avoiding him like the plague. Craig, who initially planned to resign last fall, has decided to remain in the body through the end of his term.KentuckyIraq veteran Andrew Horne will have more company in the Democratic primary this May.
