John Lee Hooker: blues cartoon tribute
2010-02-02 18:57:00
John Lee Hooker (1917-2001) was a unique musician from Mississippi. He often used open tunings on his guitar (open G or A) and did not care much about the often used 12 bar structure of the blues. He recorded since 1948 - alone and with other musicians: From Eddie Burns and Eddie Kirkland - his lesser known guitarists who were Detroit based like him in the 50's - to Eddie Taylor, Motown's Funk Brothers with legendary Bassplayer James Jamerson (on BOOM BOOM), Muddy Waters or even Martha Reeves & the Vandellas in the 60's to Rock musicians like Canned Heat, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana or the Groundhogs from the UK who were his back-up band when he visited Europe the first time after his appereance with the American Folk Blues Festival from 1962. He even recorded with legendary trumpet player Miles Davis a soundtrack for a film in 1990. After my tributes to Jimmy Reed and Sonny Boy Williamson II I have chosen John Lee Hooker for my third blues cartoon because he was the first blue...

The Hook Plays the Blues Live: The Mastery of John Lee Hooker

I don’t think anyone can really debate that blues is where rock and roll all began. Which artists had the most impact on early rock and especially classic rock can be debated to the ends of the earth with supporters of various artists all having valid points and defending their idols to the death. ...

Number 530 - John Lee Hooker

Number 530John Lee Hooker"The Healer"(1989)..Genre:Bluesart by seduced-by-the-sunThe picture on left by *Seduce by the Sun* would make a terrific poster, don't you think? Some very talented people @ www.deviantart.com and i envy everyone i feature on this site, if only i was half as good. Now i don't know if John Lee Hooker was into the ole voodoo black magic & I'm not suggesting he was, but I've always slightly associated the Blues & the New Orleans/Deep South scene together. What i would give to walk around St Louis cemetery, it looks absolutely fascinating (I'd rather walk on it than be underneath it). FYI John Lee Hooker is buried in a San Fransisco cemetery (go figure, he was born in Mississippi) click here for Google Airways to take you there.22.08.17 to 21.07.01 He was beloved worldwide as the king of the endless boogie, a genuine blues superstar whose droning, hypnotic one-chord grooves were at once both ultra-primitive and timeless. But John Lee Hooker recorded...

John Lee Hooker and Bonnie Raitt

I’m in the mood for love is a great tune.  It was a big hit for John Lee Hooker in the early 50’s.  Bonnie Raitt recorded the song with John Lee on the great album, The Healer.  There is a better video of this somewhere.  I remember seeing it on MTV/VH1 about 10 - 15 ...

- clique P.F.

Time for another biography on another one of the great blues artist . John Hooker sure knew how to talk out a tune and man could he make that guitar sing....John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an influential American post-war blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter born in Coahoma County near Clarksdale, Mississippi. From a musical family, he was a cousin of Earl Hooker. John was also influenced by his stepfather, a local blues guitarist, who learned in Shreveport, Louisiana to play a droning, one-chord blues that was strikingly different from the Delta blues of the time.[2] John developed a half-spoken style that was his trademark. Though, similar to the early Delta blues, his music was rhythmically free. His best known songs include "Boogie Chillen" (1948) and "Boom Boom" (1962).For a very interesting read on his life you can click here .This is an oldy but a goody , I hope you enjoy it as much as I do....
