Rep. John Murtha: The Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker Hearings and What the
2008-04-09 01:25:00 General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker are testifying this week that the "surge" has worked. They claim that violent incidents have decreased and that progress towards victory in Iraq has been made. When you look at the surge in purely military terms, it has reduced violence. Our men and women in uniform have done what they have been asked to do. On the battlefield they have no equal. But the surge proves that there is no military solution to Iraq. Our military cannot guarantee Iraqi economic progress or government efficacy. Look at the facts -- oil production remains below prewar levels, electricity in Baghdad remains below prewar levels, unemployment is as high as 50 percent in certain areas, and the Iraqi Government refuses to take the political steps necessary for national reconciliation. We must not be fooled by those who say there will be chaos if we leave Iraq. The leaders of the Iraqi factions can choose whether or not there will be chaos in Iraq. Prime Minister Maliki, ...
Dismissed With Prejudice
2008-04-07 04:29:00 USMC Lance Corporal Stephen Tatum has finally been exonerated of the bogus charges leveled against him. Perhaps now he can begin to rebuild his life in the peace and prosperity he has fought so hard to secure for so many of us. While I celebrate the decision to drop all charges against this Marine Rifleman, I also ...
Murtha Denies Obama Credit for Iraq Speech, Praises Reagan Administration
2008-04-04 07:48:00 The man who was made famous by his post invasion opposition to the war in Iraq is brushing off Obama?s pre-invasion anti-war stance. John Murtha (D-Pennsylvania) became popular after he spoke out against the war after he was given the gift of hindsight. "Obama had a nice view from the outside. It is easy when you are outside to make a statement like that. When you are inside, you have a responsibility to try and work this thing out. I don't know that [his speech] had an impact. I didn't even know about the speech. A lot of people said a lot of things," Murtha said. Murtha has endorsed Senator Clinton which came as a surprise to many. There were many pundits and experts that thought Obama?s stance on the war before the invasion would be a big factor in deciding who to endorse. Based on Murtha?s statement about Obama?s speech he is trying to shoulder off his responsibility for his vote by saying inside the beltway politicians had more reasons to go into Iraq. ...
Murtha?s Messy Massacre Myth
2008-03-10 05:15:00 “The magnitude of a lie always contains a certain factor of credibility.” - Adolph Hitler - Mein Kampf The vicious slander against the Marines of 3/1 Kilo Co. brought forth by Pennsylvania Democrat John Murtha continues to receive the blessing of the US Marine Corps leadership who seem quite content sacrificing these 4 men atop the altar of political correctness. For over two ...

2008-02-11 05:02:00 “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…” Americans know that without the sacrifices of our military, we’d soon bow to Mecca. We send phone cards and care packages to soldiers overseas. We focus vast resources on rehabilitating our combat wounded and employing our returning vets. But while America opens its wallet to these men and ...

Hell Freezes Over: Murtha Says The Surge Is Working!
2007-11-30 16:31:00 I honesty didn’t think a single one of the “defeatocrats” had the “stones” to admit that the troop surge in Iraq is working. Apparently, hell has in fact frozen over or I’m experiencing the initial signs of schizophrenia, because it appears that John Murtha has finally admitted what most people already know. That the troop ...

Murtha Backs the Surge
2007-11-30 04:45:00 Looks like hades is a little frosty today. From the Pittsburg Post-Gazette:Murtha finds military progress in trip to IraqWASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Murtha today said he saw signs of military progress during a brief trip to Iraq last week, but he warned that Iraqis need to play a larger role in providing their own security and the Bush administration still must develop an exit strategy. "I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves." Violence has dropped significantly in recent months, but Mr. Murtha said he was most encouraged by changes in the once-volatile Anbar province, where locals have started working closely with U.S. forces to isolate insurgents linked to Al Qaeda. He said Iraqis need to duplicate that success at the national level, but the central government in Baghd...

Dems in Denial: Murtha Dismisses Progress in Iraq
2007-11-21 01:48:00 John Murtha apparently couldn’t find any troops to accuse of murder today, so he went back to his standard talking points. House Democrats’ point man in the war-funding showdown with the White House today dismissed U.S. military gains in Iraq and vowed to tighten the purse strings until President Bush accepts a pullout plan. “Look at all ...

Army Vet to Challenge House Defense Appropriations Chairman John Murtha
2007-10-29 04:08:00 This is the sort of thing I love to hear. Here we have a non self-loathing soldier that is willing to take on the likes of John Murtha. This could send a real message to the entrenched America haters like Murtha. Does he have a real chance though? I hope so. ~RJH Fox News article link Army Vet to Challenge House Defense Appropriations Chairman John Murtha Sunday , October 28, 2007 JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — A career Army member left the service two years short of retirement to move here and try his hand at politics by challenging longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. John Murtha. First-time candidate William T. Russell, 45, a Republican, acknowledged that taking on a popular, 18-term congressman in the 2008 election will be "an uphill battle." "But it's one that must be fought," Russell told the Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown. Russell plans to formally announce his candidacy within weeks. Murtha has declined comment on the challenge. Murtha, 75, has served in the House since 19...

John Murtha vs Frank Wuterich
2007-08-27 23:42:00 Here is the deal here folks... this is going back and forth with no real attempt to get at the truth. What is at issue was the supposed "war crimes" that Staff Sergeant Wuterich and his team committed in the town of Haditha. The accusation was that in response to the death of one of their own, that they went out and shot down 24 innocent unarmed civilians in cold blood right out on the street. Now there was some reports (confidential criminal reports) that John Murtha simply took it upon himself to use as an example of the sort of thing that Marines are doing over in Iraq. He took the worst of the report and simply assumed it was true. That our marines randomly killed 24 innocent Iraqis to avenge the deaths of one of their own. He did so in spite of the fact that none of the Marines in question had been charged, stood trial, much less had been convicted. Now, for the record, charges were brought against a number of these Marines, including murder charges. But the question becomes,...

John Murtha- We'll end in September when we have more evidence we're losing
2007-05-25 23:46:00 In this story, John Murtha explains that he did veto the bill, but urged his supporters to be patient. The promised loss will come in September. The surge is not producing the results that were promised. And, based on my discussions with Iraqi Government officials, I don't believe they have the motivation to bring about the political and economic benchmarks agreed to. This is why September will be key. What results were promised? What results would satisfy Murtha?

John Murtha or Steny Hoyer for majority leader
2006-12-08 09:45:01 I'm going with Murtha for majority leader. I pick him just because of his strong stance on troop withdrawal . Nancy Pelosi, is endorsing John Murtha for the position. Murtha does have scandals in his background so he is probably not the best for the position, even though hes my pick. On Thursday, the House Democratic Caucus is scheduled to vote on who should be its new Majority Leader. The leading contenders are Murtha and Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the current minority whip. |
