Hollywood Mayor Johnny Grant Dies
2008-01-10 22:52:00 Johnny Grant, the longtime celebratory mayor of Hollywood, died Wednesday night in his Hollywood hotel room. Grant was 84-years-old. Grant died just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, apparently of natural causes, said Officer Jason Lee. Grant was found dead on a bed in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Lee said. Grant was perhaps best known as the jolly host alongside more than 500 celebrities he inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The lifelong bachelor lived in a 14th-floor suite at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Grant will be missed. You never saw a star getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame without Johnny by his side.

2008-01-10 13:09:00 Johnny Grant, a tireless show business figure dubbed the "honorary mayor of Hollywood" for his devotion to the historic movie industry hub, died on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Police Department said. He was 84.Grant was perhaps best known for introducing celebrities when they got their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But he also made 60 overseas trips to entertain U.S. troops with the USO, and recently returned from a mission to Guantanamo Bay.He organized the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade, and closely oversaw the make-over of Hollywood Blvd, a tourist destination that had fallen into decay by the early 1990s.Bespectacled and always beaming, Grant would greet tourists as if they were long-lost friends. His body was discovered in his room at the Roosevelt Hotel on Wednesday evening.
