Head Coach Jon Gruden liked what he saw this weekend
2008-05-06 14:00:00 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up their Rookie Mini Camp this weekend. Of the 60+ players who showed up for tryouts, only THREE players were told to come back when camp resumes on May 16th. Those players are listed below along with Head Coach Jon Gruden's take on the 7 Rookies he helped GM Bruce Allen Draft: Gruden on 2nd Round Draft Pick WR Dexter Jackson and 7th Round Draft Pick RB Cory Boyd: "Some of these guys, maybe we?re just doing a little bit more than they?re accustomed to this time of the year. But Boyd is fine. Dexter Jackson was limited here, but I think they understand that they better be ready to go on May 16." Gruden on 4th Round Draft Pick Dre' Moore: "He?s an explosive big man," Gruden said. "I think he?ll be the first to tell you his stamina is going to be an issue. He?s got to get in much better condition, and that?s why we have that factory over there, that industrial, weight room machine factory over there. We?ll get him in there. He is strong, very powerf...

Head Coach Jon Gruden on 1st Round Draft Pick CB Aqib Talib
2008-04-28 13:45:00 Buccaneers.com provides a good collection of quotes from Head Coach Jon Gruden about 1st Round Draft Pick CB Aqib Talib: Gruden on Talib the person: "You're going to meet a guy that has tremendous confidence, he's got a real passion to play," Gruden said. "It's a contagious vibe. He's a leader at [KU], and when you watch him practice or when you see him play, you know who No. 3 is. You just can't help but walk away feeling his presence on a football field. He's that kind of competitor and playmaker. He's a guy that sits on the edge of the chair and he just wants to go out and play," Gruden said. "He wants to be in the yard playing ball, it's just what he does. We need that. We need some juice here, certainly some playmaking, and we need some confidence. Sometimes when he plays there's a little arrogance, honestly. I like this guy a lot. He's a great kid. Football means the world to him, and I think he'll represent us well. I expect him to come in here and full-force com...

Head Coach Jon Gruden talks about Drafting WR Dexter Jackson
2008-04-28 12:45:00 The guys from the Pewter Report relay a good handful of Quotes from Head Coach Jon Gruden and recently drafted WR Dexter Jackson:Gruden on DJax: "What we did acquire was some heat ? a guy that can really provide speed in the passing game, and a guy that has experience as a returner in both kicks and punts," Gruden said. "It seems as if the big arena doesn?t bother him. This is a confident guy. I think we all saw what he did at Michigan in one of the great[est] upsets in football this past season. He?s a guy we like," Gruden said of Jackson. "He?s a good kid and he?s very fast. We think he?s going to help us in the return game with punts and kickoffs. That?s an area that at the end of the day accumulates a lot of yardage. We feel like we got fast. We got a guy that has versatility and we feel we have a good guy to learn from in Joey Galloway. We?re excited to have Dexter - Pewter Report Gruden on DJax's Returning Ability: "He?s a quick-strike guy," Gruden said. "You see him catch ba...

Head Coach Jon Gruden on Drafting WR's, QB's, and CB's
2008-04-08 00:52:00 Bucs Head Coach Jon Gruden had a couple things to say last week at the NFL Owners Meetings about his potential NFL Draftees, here's what he said: On Wide Receiver: [Which one do you like?] I mean the guy at Cal is 169 pounds. Is he going to be big enough? He's certainly fast as hell. He'd be a hell of a returner. The guy at Indiana [James Hardy] is big. Every film you pick up there's another touchdown. Is he fast enough? We've got Stovall, what the hell have we've got him for? You don't want to stock guys. So that's a tough call, it always is, though… Theres a number of good receivers That quote up there on DeSean Jackson doesnt exactly exude confidence in the kid. It's funny how Gruden compares probably the smallest WR (DeSean 6'0 166lbs) to the largest WR (Hardy 6'6 220;bs) in the draft... Are we restricted to drafting huge WR's only? I hope Gruden doesnt over look the DeSean's, Keenan Burton's, and Jordy Nelson's do to lack of size. Chad Johnson, La...

Jon Gruden hunting for Quarterbacks? What's New..
2008-02-12 03:24:00 Rick Stroud from the St. Pete Times suggests the Bucs might pursue a Veteran Quarterback this off-season despite having Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski, and yes one more, Chris Simms on the roster. Bruce Allen still dreams of the day QB Jake Plummer will join the team. Even with that log jam at Quarterback, Rick still thinks the Bucs might go after a Veteran QB.Of all the QB's on the Free Agent market, QB Daunte Culpepper is considered the favorite, with Rex Grossman, Brian Griese, and Chad Pennington as runners up... First of all, what part of a NON-MOBILE Quarterback don't we all understand? Unless the Quarterback is a Tom Brady type, he will get beat up in Gruden's offense. Culpepper may have a strong arm, but does he have the smarts to pick up a offense, Jeff Garcia is still trying to learn? I had to refrain from vomiting while typing Brian Griese's name once again, that ride was over a long time ago. Rex Grossman and Chad Pennington appear to be Trent Dilfer's g...

Three Year Extensions: Head Coach Jon Gruden and G.M. Bruce Allen
2008-01-22 19:09:00 ESPN.com among others, have reported that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have extended the contracts of Head Coach Jon Gruden and General Manager Bruce Allen Three Years. The numbers in the contracts have yet to be revealed. I'm ecstatic to see Jon Gruden get a contract extension. He's battled injuries since 2002 and has done a pretty good job with what Allen provides him with. This season he proved he was willing to change (a bit) and seemed to really get his players to rally behind and believe in his system. I think the Glazers missed a perfect opportunity to send a message to General Manager Bruce Allen. Nothing would have stung more than having to tell Gruden about his three year extension, while Allen wonders about his future. I haven't been overly impressed with Allen's work since he's arrived. His Drafts are finally starting to pan out, but his Free Agent acquisitions leave A LOT to be desired. Hopefully he makes a splash this off-season in the Wide Receiver Department....

Head Coach Jon Gruden: We hung in there
2008-01-07 00:56:00 "I'm proud of our football players. We overcame a lot this year. We hung in there." Head Coach Jon Gruden - Buccaneers.comGruden said it all right there. We did overcome alot and we did hang in there. Enough so that we made the Playoffs. That's pretty impressive for a team that finished the year with 14 guys on Injured Reserve: Mike Alstott, Charles Bennett, Antoine Cash, Torrie Cox, Chris Denman, Mark Jones, Sam Olajubutu, Greg Peterson, Luke Petitgout, Sabby Piscitelli, Chris Simms, Maurice Stovall, Paris Warren, and Carnell Williams That would be difficult for any team to over come and the Bucs were able to accomplish that. Going into the Season I thought Gruden at the very least had to make the Playoffs and possibly win a Playoff game. Had he had all his ammunition I might feel that way today, but he DID make the Playoffs, so I'm jumping off the HOT SEAT Talk for a while. You gotta wonder what a HEALTHY Season under Jon Gruden would mean for this Franchise. The cool thing ...

Should Head Coach Jon Gruden be shown the DOOR?
2007-11-15 05:35:00 Here we sit at (5-4), the season and possibly Head Coach Jon Gruden's job hanging in the balance. Should the Bucs miss the Playoffs (knock on wood NOW!), would you FIRE Head Coach Jon Gruden? Would you FIRE General Manager Bruce Allen as well? Before the season began, I thought it was a forgone conclusion that Gruden and Allen should be FIRED if we didnt make the Playoffs. I gotta be honest, at this point; I'm inclined to give Gruden, Allen, and QB Jeff Garcia one more season. My rationale is as follows: QB Jeff Garcia is 37 years old!! I think we would all agree he's put forth a pretty impressive performance thus far, right? Given his age, why would you bring in another Head Coach aka System? I feel Garcia's 38th and potentially his 39th years of life would be wasted trying to learn a whole new system. Believe it or not, I'm also interested in what Gruden can do with this exact same offensive unit coming back next season. Granted this unit hasnt beat the doors off the compe...

Simeon Rice CALLS out Head Coach Jon Gruden
2007-07-27 14:45:00 Let me just jump right into it, Simeon Rice had the following to say after being released by the Bucs yesterday: "He's [Gruden] the phoniest [expletive] in the world," said Rice. "Jon Gruden didn't have the decency, after all these years and all we've been through together, to talk to me face to face. I know he's happy today." "The only fall-off year I had came when I was hurt," he said. "I came here for a million dollars in 2001. I took a pay cut to come to Tampa just to show the world what I could do, and I'm going to come back full throttle. I'm still not 100 percent. I played two games last year with one arm and I'm not right yet. If another team out there respects me, I'll be right in three or four weeks." "I'm the most consistent thing they ever had in Tampa. I'm excited about the future, because I believe in me. I always bet on black, baby. The next step is to let my body heal up and then I'll be a maniac. I'm an ageless wonder." Whoever gets me is gonna be ha...

Who's to Blame? Head Coach Jon Gruden? General Manager Bruce Allen? The Fan
2007-07-26 19:02:00 ...UPDATE... Funny enough, Head Coach Jon Gruden was asked today whether or not he felt he was on the "Hot Seat" this season ... "A lot of my friends around the league are on that same hot seat," he said. "But I've kind of always liked the kitchen a little hotter." Contrasting the situation now with that in 2002 when he arrived in Tampa, Gruden said, "There was no pressure when I got here. (Now) there's pressure on all of us." - Bucs Beat No pressure when you got to Tampa in '02? Yeah, o-k-a-yBack to your regularly scheduled program:The Tampa Bay Bucs are coming off a season in which everyone involved would love nothing better than to completely forget what took place. Coming off a season in '05 (NFC South Champs) that made the 2006 Season seem increasingly bright .... One spleen later, the '06 campaign ended in a 4-12 Finish. Buc fans, we're coming up on our 5th Season removed from our Superbowl Championship. Can you handle another lackluster performance? How do we right...

Head Coach Jon Gruden <3's Starting Quarterback Jeff Garcia
2007-07-17 16:17:00 The St. Pete Times relays one of the more heart-felt stories of the off-season ..... Head Coach Jon Gruden professes his LOVE for new Starting Quarterback Jeff Garcia:"I love Garcia," Gruden said recently. "I like what he's doing a lot. I just think he's got some traits we haven't had around here - his mobility, his experience."You guys are sick. Come on Jon, let him prove himself before you declare your love for the guy. Sure stand behind your guy, but dang, your setting yourself up for some ridiculous criticism if the season progresses, Garcia bombs on the field, and you stick with him through it. I'm all for believing in your players, but come on this is gross. Get a room. I'm sorry ...... "I love you Jon" ...... Will you take me back? Circle "Yes" or "No" ..... Hat Tip to kmac68k12 for the story
