Boston's Josh Beckett Once Again Returns To His 2007 Form...Red Sox 5 White
2008-08-12 11:41:00
What this 2008 Boston Red Sox team needs most is a "dependable every five days" ace. That man last year was Josh Beckett, both in the regular season and the successful postseason. And it looks like he's back, just in time for a stretch run. Yesterday, in the fourth and final game with the Chicago White Sox, Kevin Youkilis broke up the no-hit bid by Chicago's John Danks in the seventh inning with a broken bat single. At the time, the score was 1-0 Chicago and it was starting to look like Josh Beckett would again be bested by an opponent's superior starting pitching. But noooo...after a hit batsman, JD Drew put the Red Sox ahead with a double that plated two, and the Red sox took it to the Pale Hose from there. In all, Josh went eight strong, allowing that lone run on 7 hits and ZERO walks. He struck out 8 and threw a total of 104 pitches. In a word (three, actually), HE WAS SUPERB. Jonathon Papelbon made the victory official with a 12 pitch no run ninth. Here's what Boston manage...

Yanks wish they had an ace like Josh Beckett
2008-04-18 13:33:00
We will remember two more balls that Manny Ramirez hit out of old Yankee Stadium, and we will certainly remember the ball Kyle Farnsworth threw over Manny's head in the top of the seventh, maybe the beginning of everything we are going to see between the Red Sox and the Yankees over the rest of this season. This was all hardball between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees Thursday night, after a game Wednesday that looked like beer-league softball. So it was a kind of game Josh Beckett understands, perfectly. He was the real story of this game, as much a star as Manny, pitching the way ace pitchers are supposed to pitch. This is the kind of pitcher the Mets hope Johan Santana can be according to New York Daily News columnist Mike Mupica. The Yankees got him for three runs in the fifth Thursday night. Got nothing after that. Beckett retired the 10 batters he faced after that. The Yankees got Jonathan Papelbon for two in the ninth. Too late. Red Sox 7, Yankees 5. This was th...
Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox wait out the rain to beat New York Yankees 4-3
2008-04-13 03:04:00
Manny Ramirez homered and added a two-run double to give the Red Sox the lead, and Josh Beckett rebounded from a bad season debut to lead Boston to a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday. A day after Chien-Ming Wang pitched a two-hitter to beat Boston in the series opener, Beckett (1-1) ...
Red Sox activate RHP Josh Beckett, designate RHP Kyle Snyder for assignment
2008-04-06 18:47:00
The Boston Red Sox activated Josh Beckett off the 15-day disabled list before Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays, allowing the right-hander to make his season debut against Toronto’s Roy Halladay. To make room on the roster, the Red Sox designated Kyle Snyder for assignment. Beckett felt soreness in his back after throwing a warmup pitch before ...

Boston ace Josh Beckett throws 2 scoreless innings in minor league game
2008-03-24 03:28:00
Josh Beckett threw two scoreless innings in a minor league game Sunday, an important step in his return from back spasms. The Boston Red Sox ace, who went 20-7 with a 3.27 ERA last season, allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three for Triple-A Pawtucket against Double-A Portland. He threw 35 pitches and ...

Josh Beckett To Stay Stateside ***New Sox Blog Announcement***
2008-03-17 10:53:00
Good Monday morning, the cheeriest day of the week (NOT!). But what can we do? Every seven days, a Monday comes and goes...by now, I'm used to it. Happy St. Patrick's Day, lads and lassies. Notice that my blog has a basic color scheme of green. But it's like that 365 days a year (this year-366). I like to think of it as a Fenway Park type of color. All things Red Sox make for a very happy blog. Ok, OK, back to baseball. Josh Beckett's back is feeling 100%, and those are sweet words indeed. He will not be going to Japan. A 14 hour plane ride is not condusive to the health of any muscle in the body, especially those that are entwined through and throughout the spinal region. Here's what the man himself, as well as his manager, had to say after his Sunday outing. This is borrowed from the Boston Globe... "Everything's good," said Beckett, who had an icepack on his back. "I did everything I wanted to do."Francona, speaking from Bradenton, Fla., where the Red Sox dropped a 6-3 deci...
Red Sox ace Josh Beckett throws without pain but won?t travel to Japan
2008-03-16 20:47:00
Josh Beckett will stay behind when the Red Sox fly 7,500 miles to Tokyo on Wednesday, even though he threw a ball 75 feet without back pain on Sunday. Boston manager Terry Francona made official what had been obvious for several days: his ace right-hander won’t travel to Japan, where he probably would have started the ...
Boston?s Josh Beckett feels stiff after workout, may not make trip to Japan
2008-03-12 23:15:00
Josh Beckett’s sore back probably will keep him from going to Japan with his teammates. Curt Schilling’s ailing shoulder may not stop him from making the trip. Beckett’s back was stiff Wednesday, four days after he felt spasms while warming up for his start against the Florida Marlins. He left the game before it even started. Read ...
Boston?s Josh Beckett feels stiff after workout
2008-03-12 19:15:00
Josh Beckett’s back still is feeling stiff. Boston’s ace right-hander had back spasms while warming up Saturday and left the mound before the game against Florida began. Beckett appears likely to miss the opening trip to Japan for games against Oakland on March 25-26. Manager Terry Francona says he stressed to Beckett that there is no timetable for ...
Josh Beckett and the Bogus Back-Ache: How Major League Baseball Can Equally
2008-03-12 18:15:00
I mean this in the nicest way; Major League Baseball should stick to playing games in the United States. I can't say I know from experience, having never had to endure the brutal schedule of playing 162 games a year, not to mention the additional work/games played during Spring Training, but can
Josh Beckett Likely to Miss Opener
2008-03-12 16:52:00
It appears as though the Red Sox will be without Josh Beckett when they open the season in Japan. The oft-injured ace who racked up 20 wins last season has felt discomfort in his back, preventing him from pitching an exhibition game this spring. Beckett has broken the hearts of fantasy managers before, pitching more than 200 innings twice in his 7 year career, and never as many as 205 innings. Of...
Josh Beckett dinged up? Say it ain't so!
2008-03-08 17:41:00
Apparently Beckett didn't start as scheduled today due to back spasms. Now, it's not a blown elbow ligament or a tanning bed mishap, but if you were expecting Beckett to continue his recent run of healthiness, think again. This is just another example of why drafting pitchers in the first three or four rounds of a fantasy draft is sure to give you constant headaches.

Top 20 Pitchers From 2007 Cheat Sheet
2007-12-26 16:05:00
Pitchers are the hardest position to predict when it comes to Fantasy Baseball.  BIGGER "Experts" then me have said it, and as you look back throughout history it's true.  Those that like to argue though will say you have players like Johan Santana or Josh Beckett, but when you look back at last year, was Johan Santana really worth the #1 pick like some suggested? Pitchers to me are a dime a dozen, and can be had in the middle of the draft.  Be patient on pitchers in your draft, you'll see plenty of them fall.   Here is a Top 20 statistical look at what pitchers did in 2007.  Top 20 Pitchers from 2007  Share This

Carlos Silva is no Josh Beckett ? A Hostile Hochuli Editorial

From: http://afraidofedhochuli.blogsp-ot.com   It is no surprise that the Mariners need pitching. They were in the running for Kuroda and missed out, they have been named in the Santana sweepstakes (but we all know they are being used as a bargaining chip), and they are making a run for Bedard.

C.C. Sabathia Beats out Josh Beckett for Cy Young Award
2007-11-15 00:00:00
C.C. Sabathia beat Josh Beckett at last — albeit a few weeks later than he hoped. Sabathia won the AL Cy Young Award on Tuesday, topping Boston’s ace and two other worthy contenders by a comfortable margin to become the first Cleveland Indians pitcher in 35 years to earn the honor. Sabathia received 19 of 28 first-place ...

Josh Beckett Reacts to that Whole Cy Young Award Thing
2007-11-14 01:23:00
Josh Beckett would have been my choice for the 2007 Cy Young Award out of the American League. And you have to believe that a lot of others agree -- enough people where Beckett could have reasonably assumed that he was the favorite. I wondered how Beckett reacted to hearing he came in second, but

Josh Beckett. Right Now, The Best There Is!
2007-11-04 12:14:00
I've talked to some of my neighbors, who comprise a 50-50 mix of Sox fans and Yankee fans. It's the opinion of the New York fans that matter most to me right now for this Sunday morning, eastern STANDARD time post. Yes, that's right, we DID get an extra hour of sleep last night, but the only thing I accomplished was waking up an hour earlier than normal, and I was unable to go back to sleep. So I got out of bed, took a shower, had breakfast and began writing this post to you. Oh, where was I? Josh Beckett! Got it. Almost every one of the Yankee fan neighbors I talked to, actually it was more like a quiz, to be more precise, answered this when I asked them their opinion of the Red Sox starting pitching staff, in the World Series and the ALCS. It was unanimous....they all thought that the best pitcher around right now, National and/or American League, is none other than Josh Beckett. Mind you, this is from Yankee fans only. WE all know it to be true, but to hear it from pinstriped ...

Sox Rock Rox in Game One: 13-1 [Addison Quale]
2007-10-25 07:19:00
Are you getting tired of all these annoying alliterative titles playing around with the Red Sox and Rockies? Not me. Anyway, the Sox absolutely butchered the Rockies last night at Fenway. Do they have some sort of mystique and aura of their own now? Are they truly the new Yankees? Perhaps. But then again, didn't we just learn in the ALCS that winning game 1 handedly doesn't mean the series is over? Let's all remember that the you're only as good as your last game and that momentum lasts one game too. The Rockies are still a very good ball club and we've probably not seen the last of them.As for managerial decisions, why in the world did Beckett pitch the 7th up 12 runs? That was absurd. The Sox could have had Beckett on short rest in game 4 and save him for a game 7 if possible. Furthermore, why bring in Timlin, your third best reliever in the 8th? As the Brazilian commentators said in the 2004 ALCS as I watched the games from Minas Gerais, "He was like a paralytic mummy out th...

The Kenny Lofton/Josh Beckett 2005 Incident

[See post to watch Flash video] I managed to dig up the clip from the 2005 season when Josh Beckett ran into the same incident with Kenny Lofton. This time Lofton was with the Phillies. MLB Postseason: Josh Beckett is Boston?s hero

Red Sox Force Game 6 [Allen Chace]
2007-10-19 14:54:00
This comes from guest blogger Allen Chace, of Over the Monster:Absolutely superb. Josh Beckett clearly feels his WS MVP trophy is a little lonely on the mantle. After a dicey 1st in which he escaped partly due to a non-RBI DP off the bat of Travis Hafner, Becks gave a clinic on pitching, being efficient while also striking out hitters, and almost got an opportunity to teach Kenny Lofton some humility in the process. The offense finally looked like the offense all season long. Working counts and generally wearing out C.C. Sabathia with a number of great ABs and getting 14 baserunners against him over 6+ innings. Indians setup man Rafael Betancourt was good in following Sabathia, only allowing one inherited runner to score on a SF. Those that followed were not so effective, with Rafael Perez allowing 3 runs (1 earned) and Tom Mastny allowing all 3 runners he inherited to score during the Sox's 3-run 8th inning. The ALCS swings back to Boston with Curt Schilling on the hill in anothe...
C.C. Sabathia beaten by Josh Beckett, ALCS goes back to Boston

C.C. Sabathia was better, but the Cleveland Indians still didn’t get his best. Sabathia’s second loss in the AL championship series forced the Indians to return to Boston where they’ll have to get a win in front of Fenway Park’s 37,000-plus screaming fans to reach their first World Series in 10 years.
