Josh Hamilton Switches Agents
2008-06-02 13:49:00 According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, Josh Hamilton and the Rangers were closing in on a long-term deal until the player decided to switch agents. Heyman says Hamilton switched from Sosnick Cobbe Sports to Moye Sports Associates because he "wanted to be with a Christian stable." Hamilton, 27, is the early favorite for the AL MVP award. He won't be eligible for arbitration until 2010.

Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley, And Equivalent Run Production
2008-05-20 01:53:00 You already knew that Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley ranked among baseball’s most feared offensive weapons thus far in 2008. But do you know how they stack up league-wide? In an effort to determine how the Texas Rangers’ top two sluggers compare with the most potent one-two punches across Major League Baseball, I went with a quick, ...
The Josh Hamilton Show: Rangers Dominate Lone Star Series Opener, 16-8
2008-05-17 08:16:00 There are, without fail, a few Texas Rangers games every season that defy any and all logical explanation. And when one of those games begins to unfold, you simply cannot help but to abandon whatever activities you happen to be pursuing at the moment - whether they are of trivial or urgent importance - and revel ...
Want to know how good Josh Hamilton is?
2008-05-17 01:31:00 Earlier this week, Hamilton was traded for Prince Fielder and Matt Cain in my money league and nobody batted a fucking eye. (And this is a league where every trade brings out the bitchers and moaners crying, "Unfair! Collusion!") By the way, Hamilton was 5-for-5 today with two home runs, four runs and five RBI today but still somehow lost out on Line of the Day honors to this guy.

Josh Hamilton awarded AL Player of the Month
2008-05-03 23:09:00 MLB has named Josh Hamilton the Player of the Month for April 2008. On December 21st of last year, Joey reported here when the Rangers had initially acquired him. We were all upset to see Edinson Volquez depart, but Hamilton’s early performance has indicated that Jon Daniels got his money’s worth. It’s only been a month, ...
Josh Hamilton and Ervin Santana
2008-04-15 03:22:00 Watching the Rangers/Angels game, a fantasy player can't help but look at the score in the bottom of the third inning and think, "Why is Ervin Santana so bad on the road?" I can't answer it, but I was fortunate to get my priorities straight to watch Rangers' CF Josh Hamilton. Batting third with 13 RBIs so far, one has to marvel at the fact he had not played baseball for four years (2003-2006) and had not made it past High A when he stopped playing. While he has not stolen bases the way he had in his early seasons (18 in 1999 and 14 in 2000), you could still see that athleticism in the bottom of the third when he went 1st to third on a single to centerfield by Milton Bradley. Back to Santana, he was given a two-run start and immediately gave-up three runs in the bottom of the 1st. He did settle down with two shut-out innings after that including getting out of a 2nd & 3rd with one-out bottom of the 3rd. With an utter lack of quality fantasy pitching in ...

2008-03-19 21:25:00 With awe-inspiring batting practice blasts, Josh Hamilton has been turning heads at the Texas Rangers’ complex all spring. Josh Hamilton Vs. Mark Teixeira: A Statistical Study
2008-03-18 07:18:00 Tim Cowlishaw’s latest piece, found in the Monday edition of the Dallas Morning News, discusses the impact of Mark Teixeira’s now-glaring absence from the Rangers lineup, and how the club hopes to fill the gaping void left by Teixeira following his departure from the organization last July. Rangers Rumors: Guardado, Cameron, Hamilton
2007-12-21 22:16:00 MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan has all the latest hot stove buzz around the Rangers. The Rangers are nearing a deal with Eddie Guardado. Everyday Eddie might be a dark horse to close, if he can flash his late season form again. The Reds decided in October that he was not worth $3.5MM, and declined his option. Guardado is 37. The Rangers hope to add some kind of veteran starter. Bartolo Colon and Jason Jennings are still options, but Mark Prior and Freddy Garcia pretty much are not. Sullivan names Mike Maroth, Mark Hendrickson, and Josh Towers as pitchers of interest. Mike Cameron could be an option for center field if he'll take a one-year deal. A multiyear demand would also take the Rangers out of the running for Corey Patterson. Sullivan notes that the Reds want Edinson Volzquez for Josh Hamilton, a possibility he first mentioned three weeks ago. Jamey Newberg doesn't think Volquez would cut it. Other trade options could include Andre Et...

Reds In On Cameron?
2007-12-08 05:41:00 According to Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Mike Cameron's agent tonight said he has a new suitor. Krasovic makes an educated guess that the Reds are that team. He cites Cameron's desire to play for Dusty Baker, the possible defensive improvement, and the availability of Josh Hamilton as factors. It would be odd for the Reds to spend their remaining money on a position player though. Cameron enjoyed his time in Cincinnati in 1999, hitting .256/.357/.469 as a 26 year-old before being included in the Griffey trade. Wouldn't it be interesting if the Reds brought back Cameron and Brett Tomko? And Antonio Perez is probably kicking around somewhere too. showad();

Rangers Like Patterson, Ethier, Hamilton, Fukudome
2007-12-08 03:38:00 According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers are targeting various young outfielders. Corey Patterson, 28, is a free agent and Scott Boras client. He's looking for multiple years while the Rangers only want to give one. His talent might tantalize somebody, though he hit just .269/.304/.386 this year. He's shown in the past that he can hit like a league average CF and play plus defense, so he could be a bargain. Patterson reversed his platoon split this year, hitting lefties pretty well. He's an Atlanta native; maybe the Braves would be a match. Andre Ethier, 26 in April, is expendable now that the Dodgers have four outfielders. His career line of .295/.357/.464 is solid, though that is average for an AL right fielder. The Dodgers may opt to move Juan Pierre instead, if they can find a taker. The Dodgers previously had interest in Rangers reliever Joaquin Benoit, according to Sullivan. The Rangers would have competition f...

Dontrelle For Josh Hamilton Was Discussed
2007-12-07 18:27:00 MLB.com's Joe Frisaro posted a new column last night full of good Marlins hot stove chatter. The most interesting note is that the Marlins talked to the Reds about swapping Dontrelle Willis for Josh Hamilton, prior to the blockbuster with Detroit. With Miguel Cabrera, the White Sox and Rangers were involved during the Meetings before the Tigers jumped in. The Rangers backed out when they couldn't get an extension window for Cabrera. The Tigers wanted the same but obviously it wasn't the dealbreaker. The Angels, Dodgers, and Giants were involved before the Meetings, with the Giants offering Noah Lowry. Frisaro says there are "strong indications the Marlins will sign Jorge Cantu. He'll be in the mix at third base. The Fish are offering the Phils Scott Nestor for Wes Helms, who'd also compete at the hot corner. The Mets have some interest in Alfredo Amezaga, though the Marlins are inclined to keep him. Miguel Olivo will be released soon, so thro...

Odds and Ends: Guillen, Crede, Hamilton, Boone
2007-12-05 21:06:00 Rounding up some of the day's random rumors and tidbits... Jose Guillen might get a light suspension for his exploits. There was a report that the Brewers were close to obtaining Joe Crede, but it was published last night. The BBWAA approved a new resolution for 2013. Any player with a contract provision linked to a major award of theirs will not be considered for that award. Makes sense - to repeat Curt Schilling's situation. Curt Schilling could get a million bucks by netting one Cy Young vote in 2008. The BBWAA would rather preserve its right to have members make off-the-wall votes on occasion without bribery being accused. The Reds traded Buck Coats to the Jays. They also released Jorge Cantu. They now have an open spot on the 40-man roster. Could the Rays re-acquire Josh Hamilton? There's speculation on the topic in Nashville. Buster Olney says Aaron Boone interests the Giants, Nationals, and Brewers. showad();

Reds Josh Hamilton Likely to Miss Time Day-to-Day
2007-07-09 10:57:00 The All-Star break has imposed a defacto news embargo on the medical condition of Reds outfielder Josh Hamilton, but it appears trainers will give his sore wrist a couple of days to "cool down" before being examined by medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek.By immobilizing the wrist through the week with a small cast or splint, and putting Hamilton on an anti-inflammatory drug regimen, Kremchek will be able to discern a more accurate reading from an anticipated MRI exam and X-rays, as the rest will help reduce hot spots that tend to obscure the magnetic resonance image analysis at the point of the sprain.In any event, additional rest most likely will be the treatment, unless it turns out that Hamilton is more seriously hurt than anticipated. Hopefully for the Reds, Hamilton will be able to avoid a recurrence, perhaps the most serious potential consequence.Hamilton came out of Saturday's game in the third inning after reporting he was unable to swing a bat in the on-deck circle. Ryan Fre...

Reds Josh Hamilton to See Specialist in New York
2007-07-08 03:50:00 Reds rookie outfielder Josh Hamilton will visit a medical specialist in New York after sustaining a wrist injury of undetermined seriousness while swinging a bat in the on-deck circle during the third inning of Saturday's 5-4 victory over the Diamondbacks at All-American Ballpark in Cincinnati.Hamilton came out of the game immediately and was replaced in center field by third base starter Ryan Freel. Edwin Encarnacion came off the bench to replace Freel at third.Initial team reports indicated Hamilton had sustained a sprain and would have his arm put in a cast, but it appeared more likely that his wrist would merely be immobilized with a splint as a precaution. Clearly the team was not going to take any chances with Hamilton, but the injury likely is not severe given the circumstances.Knowledgeable observers generally familiar with Hamilton's type of injury foresee him returning to action shortly after the All-Star break without visiting the disabled list, but conflicting reports ...

Edwin Encarnacion to AAA
2007-05-10 19:11:00 Again, I find myself dumbfounded at the ignorance of a move made by a Major League Baseball club. Edwin Encarnacion was demoted to Triple A this morning. Edwin is a guy I have been hyping as a Buy Low candidate, and there is no better time than now to get him. It seems somewhat likely the Reds will trade Edwin to a team that realizes how good he is. And considering what they took for Austin Kearns last year after he was demoted, I doubt they'll be hard pressed to find a suitable trading partner. Edwin is much better than Kearns, but the Reds are treating him terribly.Edwin's K rate is actually down from last year, and his Contact Rate is at around 81%. His BB rate is down too, but 8.2% isn't bad. A 20.7% LD Percentage is pretty good too. I still believe the power is there, as I actually expected 25-30 out of him in the preseason. The one he has hit this year went a long way, so I still expect him to put up good power numbers once he gets back on his feet. If his owner drops him, ...

Zach Greinke, Alex Gordon, Josh Hamilton
2007-04-17 04:33:00 Zach Greinke, one of the pitching surprises of 2007, gave-up 4 earned runs in two-thirds of an inning tonight. Those ERs brought his ERA to 3.95. That is still a very good AL ERA, but his fantasy owners aren't going to recognize that when they see its effects on their team ERA. Throw-in those six runners, and his WHIP rose to 1.98. He can be had in a trade now. * Royals' teammate Alex Gordon now qualifies at SS in traditional Rotisserie leagues with his appearance at SS tonight. Sliding him to the middle makes that sub-.150 AVG more palatable, doesn't it? Does Dave Luciani feel any sense of schadenfreude? * Am I the only one still reserving judgment on Reds OF Josh Hamilton? I feel a little bad about raining on this feel-good story of redemption, but I can't get past the fact that he has barely played this year.

Josh Hamilton powers Reds past Diamondbacks (AP)
2007-04-12 12:03:00 Josh Hamilton is enjoying every minute of his new major league career. Opposing pitchers are hoping his enthusiasm will soon wane. Josh Hamilton: LHP?
2007-03-29 16:01:00 In Nate Silver’s recent chat, he remarked about a throw that Josh Hamilton made from the outfield: Did anyone just see that throw by Josh Hamilton? I’ve heard at least one opinion that he could make it in the big leagues as a pitcher if he fails as a position player. I’d like to add my opinion to the group that thinks he could make it as a pitcher. Not that I’m a scout, of course, or that I have any scouting training, but I have seen Hamilton from a perspective that few can claim: from the batter’s box. I played against Josh Hamilton in high school, where he played outfield and pitched…well threw at home plate from the mound. At the time, he was clocked around 95 mph with some consistency. His control wasn’t very refined, but the raw talent was certainly there. As a young fan of sabermetrics, I was sure that the Devil Rays would draft him as a pitcher, or at least let him play both outfield and pitch–after all, how many lefties have...

Thoughts on Josh Hamilton
2007-03-10 06:47:00 I was on ESPN.com and was taking a look at an article on Josh Hamilton, the hot Rule 5 baseball player who is on fire for the Cincinnati Reds in spring training. A lot of the posters there were harping on how much attention he has received as he’s on the comeback trail, although his failures in the game was mostly due to his own doing – drugs and lack of initiative to play baseball. Take a look at the article, and read some of the comments. I’ll tell you one thing – drug use and abuse is a disease, plain and simple. It’s a topic I know all too much about in my family. Let us all remember, Josh was a young man when all of this went down, and is still a young man at 25. He’s done a lot of harm to his family, but nearly destroyed a dream that most of us would be die for. Look, I think a lot of people are angry because a young man blew immense talent initially, but found his way back and may have on spot on the Reds – deserved or not. For me, life is abou...
