Josh Hancock: A Fitting Tribute
2007-05-26 02:50:00 Josh Hancock's death was not a tragedy. That's not to say that it wasn't a sad day for his family, friends, and fans; it's just that the death of a completely unsympathetic character does not resemble a tragedy in any conventional sense of the word. Remember reading the Shakespearean tragedy in

Josh Hancock - Legally Drunk at the Time of the Accident...
2007-05-04 17:53:00 Well, I just was checking the news and I saw this update on Josh Hancock. What a shame...From the AP: "St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock was drunk at the time of his fatal accident, and marijuana was found in the sport utility vehicle he was driving. Police Chief Joe Mokwa also said at a news conference Friday that the 29-year-old Hancock was speaking on a cell phone at about the time of the crash early Sunday on Interstate 64 in St. Louis. "Mr. Hancock was legally intoxicated at the time of the accident," Mokwa said. St. Louis medical examiner Michael Graham said Hancock's blood-alcohol level was 0.157, nearly twice Missouri's legal limit of 0.08. Mokwa said 8.55 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana were found in the rented Ford Explorer.Toxicology tests to determine if drugs were in his system had not been completed. An accident reconstruction team determined Hancock was traveling 68 mph in a 55 mph zone when his SUV struck the back of...

In Memorandum; Josh Hancock, St. Louis Cardinals Reliever...
2007-05-01 17:48:00 Life, is more often than that is about overcoming the hard times, rather than relishing it when the times are good.Death is a part of life, but it does not make dealing with it any easier. The St. Louis Cardinals faced that once with Darryl Kile. They are facing it again with the loss of Josh Hancock.I am the same age as Josh Hancock, and I often drive on the interstate everyday, but we take life for granted much way too much.It is perhaps a tired cliché, but it?s true.I really did not know much about Mr. Hancock, aside from he was just a reliever with the Cardinals and was a part of the World Series team last year.Even though there are now reports of alleged drinking a few hours before his accident, and an accident a few days before he lost his life, Josh Hancock was a man who was in the prime of his career and just beginning life.To me, he?s a young man who died sadly way too soon. Whether he made a mistake or not isn?t the issue, it?s the fact he?s in another place and at peace now...

Josh Hancock Dies in Car Crash [J. Mark English]
2007-04-30 04:27:00 From Matthew Leach of the St. Louis Cardinals website:A team that still remembers its last loss all too well suffered another one early on Sunday morning. The Cardinals lost a friend and teammate when pitcher Josh Hancock, 29, was killed in a car accident on Interstate 64 in St. Louis. Hancock's 2007 Ford Explorer hit a tow truck at approximately 12:35 a.m. CT and the pitcher died at the scene, possibly at the moment of impact. It's the second time in a five-year span that the Cardinals have lost an active player. Darryl Kile passed away on June 22, 2002. The driver of the tow truck was unharmed in the wreck. The truck was parked in the left lane of the interstate, tending to a previous wreck. According to St. Louis Police Chief Joseph Mokwa, the truck had rotating yellow lights and flashing red lights displayed. It was in an active traffic lane. Mokwa explained that despite the lights, it appears that Hancock simply did not see the tow truck until it was too late for him to avoid...
