Desert Dog's Top UFC 82 Underdogs To Keep An Eye On
2008-02-22 17:51:00 There are some unique match ups in line for UFC 82 and a couple of them are very prime dog bets. Aside from the slight under dogs like Tanner, Henderson, and Fioravanti, there are two big underdogs who are sliding under the radar a bit.Dustin Hazelette (+365 Bookmaker) and David Bielkheden (+400 Bookmaker) may not be names you recogognize immediately but they are serious contenders against Koscheck and Sanchez respectively. The odds offered are reflective of name recognition and not the actual match ups at hand. It's probable that only one of these guys will pull of an upset, but with the odds offered a bet on both will pay off nicely, even with only one of them winning.Dustin Hazellett is a smart submission specialist who has had his best success against agressive wrestlers and strikers. His skill set on the ground plays into Koscheck's ground game. Hazellett is very proficient at avoiding damage on his back and then laying on the submission. On his feet he's as good as Koshchec...

UFC 74 Preview: GSP-Kos
2007-08-25 18:32:00 On March 4, 2006, the world watched as two twenty-something welterweights tested their mettle inside the Octagon in what many thought was a contest to determine who would dominate the division for the next several years.Georges St. Pierre, the then-universally regarded heir apparent to the 170-pound kingdom, faced former champion B.J. Penn. The fight lived up to expectations as the pair waged a memorable three-round war. In the end, St-Pierre?s ability to take the fight to the mat and maintain top position was enough to squeak out the narrowest of split decisions, one that many fans and pundits vigorously disputed. The stage was set for an immediate rematch, if not an Ali-Frazier three-fight series. But a rematch wasn?t in the cards ? not in the short term anyway. Penn, despite the loss, replaced an injured GSP in an unsuccessful title challenge against then-champion Matt Hughes at UFC 63. Two months later, GSP fulfilled his destiny by taking the title away from Hughes in a one-side...

Josh Koscheck vs George St. Pierre Betting Odds and Analysis
2007-08-07 07:54:00 The UFC commentators are saying that these may be the two best athletes in the UFC. True or not, these two are relentless and very skilled. But who has the upper hand, let?s break it down.Josh Koscheck was a nationally acclaimed collegiate wrestler who moved to MMA in 2004. Most of his early finishes came by way of RNC, the classic win for great wrestlers who overwhelms people on the ground, with the opponent eventually giving up their back and getting choked out. Since his days on TUF Kos has worked steadily on his standup. Those skills were probably best displayed in his fight with Sanchez. Although he did not finish that fight he showed tight jabs and of course his favorite overhand rights. He was able to utilize good footwork and movement to score steadily through each round. The result of his more thoughtful game planning combined with facing a higher level of competition is that Josh has taking 3 of his lat 4 fights by decision. So does Koscheck have the tools to finish a fight...
BJ Penn to Fight Diego Sanchez
2007-07-04 17:27:00 According to Sherdog.com this morning, sources say that BJ "The Prodigy" Penn will now face off against Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez on UFC 74's undercard. UFC 74's main event features a UFC heavyweight title fight between Randy "The Natural" Couture and Gabriel Gonzaga, which is set to take place on August 25, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay in Les Vegas, Nevada. It had already been rumored that Sanchez was set to make his appearance at UFC 74, but against PRIDE veteran Hayato Sakurai. Sources of Sherdog.com seem to have put out the fire supporting those rumors.Penn, the 28-year-old Hawaii native, recently stopped Jens "Little Evil" Pulver, in a lightweight battle, with an extraordinary submission win at the Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale. However, the same thing cannot be said for Diego Sanchez. Sanchez tarnished his perfect MMA record with lackluster performance, to say the least. Sanchez lost by a unanimous decision to long hated opponent Josh Koscheck at UFC 69: Shootout, where the two circle...

Let the goodness seep in?
2007-06-09 05:31:00 According to www.mmahq.com, Diego ?The Nightmare? Sanchez will be going toe to toe with Pride FC fighter Hayato ?Mach? Sakurai at UFC 74 in August. Hayato Sakurai is an outstanding Japanese mixed marital artist with an impressive record of (30-7-2). Sakurai holds recent wins over: Joachim Hansen, Jens Pulver and Shinya Aoki, just to name a few. Sakurai did compete at UFC 36 against Matt Hughes, but couldn?t overcome Hughes? overwhelming power and was stopped via TKO in the fourth round. Sakurai is well versed in his techniques and at one time considered pound for pound one of the greatest fighters.I think Diego Sanchez needs no introduction, but what the hell. Sanchez gained much popularity on The Ultimate Fighter television series with his ?unique? ways (i.e. Yoga, utilizing ?Chi? or energy from the earth). Sanchez is best known for this nearly flawless record, with the exception of his recent loss to Josh Koscheck. Horrendous fight by the way, nice display of immense improved st...

Josh Koscheck Posts Huge Rant About UFC Pay
2007-06-07 15:29:00 The following is from Josh Koscheck's personal MySpace page. Whether or not he actually said these words, who knows but it's good stuff.UFC and boxing ppv dollars?UFC Prez Dana White is always quick to pull out the “boxing promoters are crooked” line during his frequent discussions about boxing. I would argue that the UFC Czar is just as crooked. Why did Chuck Liddell and Rampage Jackson only make about $500,000 for their recent UFC 72 showdown. UFC 72 did about 1 million pay per view buys at $40 a pop, Zuffa made 40 million alone in ppv dollars. Not to mention the live gate, over seas viewing rights, and sponsors that ponied up money for this fight. Why do UFC fighters get such a small piece of the pie in a sport that’s supposedly on the upswing? With the rise in of popularity of the UFC why aren’t their fighters paid MUCH more.I’m not saying there aren’t boxing promoters that don’t short change their fighters, but boxers can make a lot more money over a career than ...
Josh Koscheck: Diego Sanchez’s Family is Weird, Drunk
2007-03-31 22:12:00 The war of worlds between The Ultimate Fighter season one castmates Josh Koscheck (8-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and Diego Sanchez (17-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC), who meet on the main card of next weekend’s UFC 69 event, just keeps getting better and better. Although the two rising welterweights were anything but best friends after Sanchez squeaked out a semifinal split-decision win on the show, the two fighters have gotten downright personal in the past couple months. The latest round of attacks was started when Sanchez left a message on Koscheck’s MySpage page, in which he told the “blanket” he better bring a some “balls” to their upcoming fight. (Diego, a world-class fighter? Sure. World-class trash-talker? Not so much.)ENTIRE ARTICLE is available only at UFC Junkie. |
