In a lawsuit filed by Roxanne Davis, Lydon is said to have punched her in the face and called her lewd names.Yoko Ono and sons Sean and Julian will continue to pursue litigation against the makers of the film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed for their use of the song Imagine. On Monday, a lower court refused to order the song pulled from the film, so Ono has decided to appeal, saying "It is a pity that this decision weakens the rights of all copyright owners. 2008-01-12 05:43:00 This has never been my favorite Joy Division record for several reasons. I always preferred Still. I know that's weird because it wasn't written together as a record, but I always felt that it accomplished continuity in a desperate sort of way, which was a good metaphor for the band. However, Closer was where the original version of "24 Hours" debuted, which has always been one of my top 3 favorite Joy Division songs. Regardless, this record is great. Joy Division was such a subtly diverse band. Casual listeners pass them off as either all too depressing or all too dance-y, and their fame in some circles seems to stem only from their disappointing (to me, anyway) post-Ian Curtis project New Order. This album has some of the more danceable numbers that retain that awkward edge in the vocals that only Curtis could really pull off ("Isolation"), as well as the just as bleak, but less electronic sounds of "Heart and Soul" and the aforementioned "24 Hours" . 2007-10-29 03:59:00 I always loved videos of Joy Division because they don't look anything like they sound, to me. Ian Curtis is so skinny and awkward and his voice just booms out of his tiny little voice box. There's also the fact that even when he makes an effort to dance and "put on a show" I guess, he still looks depressed and desperate as hell. I guess this video comes from a movie about Joy Division, but I never heard of it. I never was a very active Joy Division fan, so the fact that I've never heard of it doesn't mean it's really all that obscure. And while we're on the subject of awkward British dudes, here's an absolutely ancient video of Billy Bragg doing "Between the Wars" on Top of the Pops. Apparently it's a big deal that he's playing live instead of lip-syncing, as that was what they usually did, I guess. I don't know, I never saw the show before.
