Crisp/Lugo For Cabrera Speculation
2007-12-19 16:11:00
Been getting this Phil Rogers blog post emailed to me quite a bit lately.  In it he speculates that the White Sox could send Orlando Cabrera to the Red Sox for Julio Lugo and Coco Crisp.  Or, they could send Cabrera to the Cubs for prospects.  Third, he suggests the Sox could sign Cabrera for around four years and $50MM, the offer they made to Kosuke Fukudome. Nothing wrong with the speculation, Phil is just spitballing here it seems.  However, this talk gets passed around a couple of times, people don't actually read what Phil wrote, and then people start saying this is a rumor or that there have been talks of this nature.  To me, speculation doesn't graduate to a rumor until someone reports that it's been discussed by execs of one or more teams.  Just my two cents on why this is not a trade rumor.  But, feel free to discuss.    showad();
Why I Am Rooting Against the Red Sox
2007-10-25 02:53:00
Before you send me hate e-mail and comments, please bear with me. This post is not directed to die-hard Red Sox fans, the fans who suffered through years of heartbreak. I should also state that I dislike the Yankees (again, please hold off on the hate e-mail and comments) and always root for the Red Sox to defeat the Yankees, especially during the 2003 and 2004 American League Championship Series. I remember cheering for Red Sox in 1986 because, as a Pirates fan, I hated the Mets (I even have an autographed picture of Bill Buckner from when he was a Chicago Cub), and was excited for Boston when they won the World Series in 2004. The 2004 Red Sox were amazing as they became the first team in baseball history to come back from a 3-0 deficit. Unless you were a Yankees fan, how could you not like the team with the slogan ?Cowboy Up? and the nickname of the Idiots? They were a fun team and one that you wanted to support. However, at least in my mind, things have changed. The Red...

TSF's 2007 MLB Midseason Awards
2007-07-09 02:29:00
Here are my midseason awards. I reserve the right to change these by the end of the season. MVP AL: Alex Rodriguez - NYYMagglio Ordonez is the next best choice but it should be a no-brainer. Without Arod the Yankees would be utterly pathetic. He had arguably the best April in baseball history and has driven in about 20% of the Yankees' runs.NL: Prince Fielder - MILI might be a Brewers fan and I might be a homer but I think Fielder makes a great case for NL MVP thus far. The Brewers are winning and he's carrying them and holding them up in first place. Matt Holliday is a guy a lot of other bloggers might go with but I think because of what the Brewers have done in comparison to the Rockies I gotta go with Prince. PS -can't wait to get me one of theseROOKIE OF THE YEAR AL: Daisuke Matsuzaka - BOS Doesn't seem fair that he is so much older and experienced than other rookies but he meets the definition of rookie by the rulebook and therefore he has definitely been the AL ROY thus fa...
Yes, Julio Lugo is on Drugs.
2007-07-01 18:37:00
I was going to comment this on the last thread, but I think it deserves its own. The worst part is we are stuck with this guy for 3 more years. I think the real question is if Theo Epstein and the front office crew were on drugs when they signed this guy. Lugo ...

Julio Lugo - Waste of Space?
2007-06-25 18:50:00
I never thought I would say this, but bring back Edgar Renteria! OK, probably not since he didn’t want to be here and Lugo actually does, but still. Lugo has not gotten a hit since June 14 (though he has been close - as if that counts) and has only 7 in the ...

Now Batting 9th, Julio Lugo
2007-06-13 02:06:00
In the first game of the Red Sox home stand tonight, Dustin Pedroia and Julio Lugo swapped spots in the lineup. That’s right, Pedroia led off the game and Lugo is slated in the 9 hole. Its about time! Your leadoff hitter should be the guy who is getting on base the ...

MetsBlog Reporting on Julio Lugo
2007-02-24 16:28:06
Just wanted to share this link to MetsBlog.com. They are reporting that Julio Lugo is being chased by the Mets and the Dodgers. We all know that Minaya has coveted Lugo for quite some time, but didn't they already lock up Valentin? Also, the post states that Olney is talking about the Red Sox as being the frontrunners. Of course, maybe the Dodgers are planning to trade Furcal to the Red Sox in order to get Manny??? Perhaps a little NBA-style sign and trade is in order here with Lugo. Maybe the Dodgers are just greedy and they want a whole infield of short stops and second baseman. Maybe. Who knows.
Boston Red Sox Sign Both J.D. Drew & Julio Lugo
2006-12-06 07:33:02
(SawxBlog Montage) Goodbye, Ruby TuesdayWho could hang a name on you? When you change with every new dayStill Im gonna miss you... Could the signing of both J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo be the beginning of the end for Manny Ramirez? According to an always coy Theo Epstein, no. According to ESPN.com: "Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said the deal is not done because Drew has not yet taken a physical. But he told reporters that Drew is earmarked for the No. 5 spot in the batting order behind David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez-- if Ramirez isn't traded." First off, if Manny isn't trade (as everyday passes I hope he isn't), the Red Sox have a very, very legit line-up. Lugo and Drew are both very solid hitters at their position and Lugo brings some good speed and will compliment the top of our order with Coco Crisp. The biggest cry and uprising you're going to hear about (I'm looking at you WEEI...) is the money given to these two players, especially J.D. Drew. But these ar...
