Justin Harrell

Harrell looks good in debut
2007-08-13 16:05:00
Green Bay Packers first round draft pick Justin Harrell could easily make a lot of legitimate excuses for poor play. He's still not 100 percent after coming off a torn biceps muscle suffered last year. He's still working himself into football shape. And he doesn't exactly have the support of Packer Nation after his drafting was roundly booed by fans.He still had a pretty good first preseason game wearing the green and gold, even with all those things working against him.Harrell had four tackles including a sack against the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday night. Those statistics should be tempered by the fact that he was working against second, third and maybe even fourth string players. All in all, there's not much reason to worry for right now. Even the general manager is impressed."He actually played pretty good last night," Ted Thompson is quoted as saying in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Williams makes all-breakout team
2007-08-10 19:13:00
Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Corey Williams has been tabbed by Dennis Dillon of the Sporting News as part of his all-breakout team for 2007.Dillon writes, "The Packers like to use a lot of linemen, so Corey Williams will get plenty of playing time as part of the committee. He's big, instinctive and has good speed. He showed glimpses of what he can do last season when he had three sacks in a game against Buffalo."It may be hard to Williams to repeat his same stats as 2006 with the addition of Justin Harrell to the defensive tackle mix, but he should still play plenty on passing downs meaning opportunities to get lots of sacks. He'll likely get the fat contract he wants next year after a second consecutive decent season.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Harrell looks better
2007-08-10 18:12:00
These media types can't wait to announce that first round draft pick Justin Harrell has won a rep in a drill during training camp. One rep. It's not the first time it's happened either."Rookie Justin Harrell had his best rep of camp during the one-on-one pass-rushing/pass-blocking drill in the night session," writes Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "The defensive tackle used an inside move to beat right guard Tony Palmer. It was the first time in camp that the first-round pick won a rep with technique rather than pure power. Harrell also won a pair of reps by overpowering the camp whipping boy, Pat Murray. Harrell did lose one rep to fellow rookie Allen Barbre."I'm as glad as anyone to see Harrell do well, but it's odd to read about Harrell winning a single rep. Then again, maybe not. As you read this website, you'll be sure to come across a couple of articles applauding a wide receiver for a single catch.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Jolly disppoints
2007-08-04 17:02:00
First defensive tackle Johnny Jolly couldn't pass a conditioning test, and now he has problems with jumping offsides despite being inches away from the football."Defensive tackle Johnny Jolly couldn't stay onside during one-on-one pass rush drills," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Though he had two pretty good rushes overall, his three offside infractions were inexcusable, given that he's lining up right over the ball."Jolly had better watch himself. Just because he's a 2006 draft pick doesn't mean he's beyond getting cut. With the addition of Justin Harrell this season, it's likely that one of the defensive tackles that were with the team last year will be gone in 2007.
Defensive tackle is a revolving door
2007-08-02 23:52:00
There has been no definitive starting duo at the defensive tackle position so far this training camp for the Green Bay Packers and Thursday was no exception."First-round draft pick Justin Harrell and Johnny Jolly opened the first team period at defensive tackle," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Corey Williams and Colin Cole were in to start the no-huddle period."Back when Ryan Pickett and Jolly were not allowed to practice at the opening of camp due to conditioning concerns, it was Williams and Cole that were in with the first team.Apparently there are no hard feelings for either Pickett or Jolly. Pickett was inserted back with the first team almost immediately, and now Jolly got some reps with the first team today.Expect the Packers to rotate their tackles fairly heavily all season long, but it looks as if the starting position opposite Pickett could still be up for grabs no matter what the depth chart says.
Packers might keep 10 defensive linemen
2007-08-01 16:26:00
All signs are pointing toward the Green Bay Packers keeping 10 defensive linemen on their roster this year. According to Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette:The Packers kept 10 defensive linemen out of training camp a year ago, and "you can ? easily make the same argument this year," coach Mike McCarthy said. "Just to have the ability to rotate those guys in there, a bunch of big bodies that can really get after people in a two-gap scheme on first and second down, and we've got a bunch of athletic guys." A team can generally get away with keeping nine defensive linemen, but the Packer appear to want to have a fresh rotation. The comments made by McCarthy have been prompted by evidence of first round draft pick Justin Harrell wearing down in practice. The heat certainly has taken its effect along with a shortage of defensive tackles in Green Bay due to poor conditioning and injury."When we've had to put more reps on him, that puts him deeper in the hole, really," Packers de...
Harrell under the microscope
2007-07-30 15:15:00
You know first round draft choice Justin Harrell is getting a lot of media attention when it is reported that he won a rep during a training camp drill."First-round draft pick Justin Harrell finally won his first reps during the one-on-one pass rushing drills. He twice beat rookie free agent guard Pat Murray, who so far has struggled mightily in the drill," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.It must be pathetic that we're interested in knowing that Harrell won ONE rep, but us Packer fans are crazy for any and all news. That's why you keep coming back to Railbird Central, right?
Word of the day: cramps
2007-07-30 00:15:00
Several Green Bay Packers suffered from cramps at their second training camp practice of the year."DT Justin Harrell doubled over in pain from an apparent cramp in his left calf late in practice," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "He briefly received attention from trainers before wrapping a towel around the leg. He did not participate in the final team period and was slimping slightly afterward, but it did not appear to be anything more serious than a cramp."The cramps among other players forced the Packers to end practice early."With Bubba Franks sitting out and Clark Harris and Zac Alcorn battling cramps, the Packers finished practice with only one TE -- Donald Lee," writes Pelissero. The Packers cut practice 12 reps short due to the shortage at tight end.Cramps definitely forced head coach Mike McCarthy's hand on Sunday morning, but the first two practices were cut short despite McCarthy's previous prediction that training camp practices would probably be l...
A closer look at the depth chart
2007-07-29 17:24:00
The depth chart recently released by the Green Bay Packers gives some insight into the players fans should be keeping an eye on as training camp progresses.People put a lot of attention on the starting lineup, but the second and third string is where attention needs to be focused. It is these players that will round out the final roster of 53. This is where head coach Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson will have tough choices in early September whether to keep or release certain players.A look at the depth chart located on the Packers' official website and also released to reporters on Friday reveals a couple things.Getting a lot of attention in the mainstream media is first round draft choice Justin Harrell already being listed with the first string ahead of Corey Williams despite a solid season by Williams in 2006 and an injury plagued season for Harrel last year as well. Both players barring the unforseen will undoubtedly make the Packers' roster. And the depth chart may not be far ...
Harrell works out kinks
2007-07-29 15:57:00
Green Bay Packers first round draft pick Justin Harrell wasn't Superman in his first training camp practice. But bear in mind that he hasn't played football since Sept. 18 of last year."When (Packers head coach Mike) McCarthy watches the film of Saturday's practice, he'll see Harrell get swallowed by interior linemen on some running plays and have little success in three one-on-one pass rushing reps against journeymen offensive linemen Travis Leffew and Tony Palmer," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.Harrell didn't seem too worried, though."My legs got a little tired and things like that," Harrell told the Press-Gazette. "I've just got to get used to being out there in pads and playing football again. I knew I was going to be real rusty. It's been a long time. It's going to come, hopefully in the next couple of days."
Depth chart, schmepth chart
2007-07-29 00:19:00
Neither of the players listed as the starters at defensive tackle on the Green Bay Packers' first depth chart took the field with the first string defense at the first training camp practice."Corey Williams was working with the No. 1 unit during drills," reports Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Colin Cole was filling in at the other defensive tackle spot in place of Ryan Pickett."First round draft pick Justin Harrell was listed first on the depth chart ahead of Williams despite practicing.Pickett was held out of practice due to conditioning concerns.
Harrell inks deal with Packers
2007-07-28 17:20:00
Green Bay Packers first round draft pick Justin Harrell becomes the last of all the team's draft choices to sign a contract. There's no reason to think he won't be able to take the practice field today."Once Harrell finishes the paperwork and takes his physical, he should be on the field with the rest of the Packers for the first training camp practice at 2 p.m. today," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.People may be surprised to see that Harrell agreed to a six year deal with the Packers, but it is a little more complicated than just that."Harrell became the 11th and final Packers draft choice to come into the fold, agreeing to a five-year contract worth between $14.5 million and $15 million with all incentives included, an NFL source said Friday," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "As part of the deal, which goes in the books as a six-year contract but easily voids to five, Harrell will receive around $8 million in guaranteed money."On...
Packers sign Jones
2007-07-27 16:03:00
Green Bay Packers wide receiver and third round draft pick James Jones has agreed on a contract with the Green Bay Packers. That leaves only first round man Justin Harrell as the only draft choice yet to sign."Jones agreed to a four-year deal that included an escalator that would greatly increase his earnings in the fourth year if he were to reach a number of statistical milestones," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The Packers have structured a number of their contracts that way in order to get the player to agree to a four-year deal."The first training camp practice isn't until 2 p.m. on Saturday, so the Packers will have all day today and part of tomorrow to get Harrell in the fold by then.
Jackson signs on with Packers
2007-07-26 01:09:00
Second round draft pick and former Nebraska running back Brandon Jackson has signed a multi-year contract with the Green Bay Packers.Jones is the ninth of Green Bay's 11 draft picks to sign with the team and the fourth this week.Only third rounder James Jones and first rounder Justin Harrell have yet to sign with the team, but even general manager Ted Thompson isn't concerned.According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "Thompson said he was confident Jones would be signed before practice starts Saturday at 2 p.m. Thompson also said negotiations with Harrell were going smoothly and he didn't anticipate much of a delay in his signing."
Packers sign entire sixth round
2007-07-24 16:08:00
The Green Bay Packers have signed all three of their sixth round draft choices as of Tuesday morning.Fullback Korey Hall (pictured), linebacker Desmond Bishop and kicker Mason Crosby all agreed to deal with the team just before players report to training camp on Friday. The Packers have only their top three draft choices remaining to sign including defensive tackle Justin Harrell, running back Brandon Jackson and wide receiver James Jones. If you're a reader of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, don't be confused. In Tuesday's edition, it is reported that the Packers had only signed Bishop and Crosby. But the Green Bay Press-Gazette confirms Hall had been signed as well.Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette writes, "According to a source with access to NFL Players Association contract information, all three signed four-year contracts that include minimum salaries for the first three years ($285,000 in 2007, $370,000 in 2008 and $460,000 in 2009) with the possibility in the fourth year the...
Packers' D-line ranks in top half of NFL
2007-07-24 15:59:00
The Green Bay Packers' defensive line has been ranked as the 15th best unit in the entire NFL by Ned Macey for Fox Sports.Macey writes, "This ranking may be high for the Packers, but if they are going to make a surprise playoff run, the defensive line will be this good. Aaron Kampman is one of the league's most complete defensive ends, pressuring the quarterback while still playing the run adequately. On the other end, Cullen Jenkins has assumed the starting role, and this unheralded player is certainly someone to watch this year. Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila returns to the role of pass-rush specialist, where he should again be an impact player. The key for the unit is the health of Justin Harrell, the first-round pick out of Tennessee. Harrell was considered a reach in the draft but has excellent physical skills. One weakness is that Kampman and Ryan Pickett on the left side of the line get pushed back on running plays more than the Packers would like. Both players amass numerous tackles...
Harrell inches closer towards signing with Packers
2007-07-23 19:00:00
When the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had come to terms with first round draft pick Lawrence Timmons, the Green Bay Packers came that much closer to signing their own first rounder in Justin Harrell."On Saturday, a person familiar with the situation set the odds of Justin Harrell being signed by the opening of training camp at 50-50. Less than 24 hours later, he revised those odds to 90-10," reports Packer Update. "That's because on Sunday the Steelers agreed to terms with outside linebacker Lawrence Timmons."The contracts signed by NFL draft picks generally fall into line with the players drafted immediately before and after them. The contracts signed by the people drafted at the same spot the previous year also have a bearing on this year's draft crop as well. The Packers would, no doubt, like to have Harrell in by the start of training camp on Saturday.
Packers must deal with critique
2007-07-21 17:48:00
The Green Bay Packers recently found a harsh critic in Pro Football Weekly's Court E. Mann.Speaking of the Packers' biggest offseason moves, Mann wrote, "The Packers did nothing, literally, to improve in free agency. In fact, they got worse, with the departure of RB Ahman Green leaving no proven option in the run game. The draft brought DT Justin Harrell and RB Brandon Jackson to compete for starting jobs, but on the whole, the team appeared more focused on upgrading special teams than it did the other two phases of the game."It's tough to argue with his analysis, though. The only free agent move was acquiring backup cornerback Frank Walker.Perhaps upgrading the special teams units was a wise choice for the Packers. After all, the Packers were ranked dead last in the NFL in special teams the past two seasons.
Will Harrell hold out?
2007-07-19 15:31:00
The Green Bay Packers are barely over a week away from the opening of training camp and still have six draft choices to sign.First round draft picks are always the last ones to sign. So will the Packers' first selection, Justin Harrell, hold out?Last year's 16th overall selection in the NFL draft elected to do so."Last year's 16th overall pick, safety Jason Allen of Miami, signed a six-year contract that included up to $9 million in guaranteed money," reports Rob Reischel for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "But Allen held out 10 days, was the second-to-last first-round draft pick to sign and played from behind all season."Harrell's agent, Eugene Parker, is hoping for the best."I've had good, positive relationships with the Packers and (negotiator) Andrew (Brandt) and I'd expect that will continue," Parker told the Journal Sentinel. "It's hard to say how smooth something will go. But I'm optimistic."The Packers have 11 draft picks to fit into their $4.907 million rookie sala...
Packers Sign Aaron Rouse and David Clowney; Nego With Justin Harrell
2007-07-17 20:38:00
Even with this, the NFL teams are showing a good record of signings at this time. It's typical that the higher dollar draftees take longer to sign. Packers aim to get rookies under contractBy Rob Demovsky rdemovsk@greenbaypressgazette.c-omWith organized team activities completed, the Green Bay Packers have one main objective before training camp begins in less than six weeks: Get the rest of their rookies under contract. The Packers have signed two of their 11 draft picks, third-round pick Aaron Rouse and fifth-rounder David Clowney. The more difficult negotiations, however, have not yet begun in earnest.General Manager Ted Thompson and vice president of player finance Andrew Brandt have a tight rookie salary pool of $4.907 million, which is the maximum amount of salary cap space the Packers can use to sign their draft picks and undrafted rookie free agents. That's about $630,000 more than the NFL rookie pool average for 2007, but no team had more draft picks than the Packers. The P...
Six draft choices still unsigned
2007-07-16 15:50:00
There's ten days until the Green Bay Packers report to training camp and six of the team's 11 draft choices are still unsigned.Fox Sports notes, "Still left to be signed in time for the start of training camp July 28 are first-round defensive tackle Justin Harrell, second-round running back Brandon Jackson, third-round receiver James Jones and the sixth-round trio of fullback Korey Hall, linebacker Desmond Bishop and kicker Mason Crosby."While ten days may not seem to be a long time, expect a flurry of draft choices to sign contracts within the next week and a half.History tells us that the lower round draft picks will be signed in the next couple of days while the first day choices may not be signed until the days leading up to training camp. It's possible that first round draft choice and defensive tackle Justin Harrell could even miss a couple days of training camp as he awaits his first professional contract. Although fellow NFC North counterpart Greg Olsen has already signed ...
A Viking's take on the Packers
2007-07-12 23:49:00
Well, here is Railbird Central's first real sports related interview, with Complete Sports Blogger and Minnesota Vikings fan Jon Reed. No that isn't him in the picture.1. Toward the end of the season, the Packers' offense greatly improved. Now, offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski has left to become the Head Coach at Boston College. How much will his departure hurt the Packers' offensive developement?Well I think the fact that they promoted within with Joe Philbin should help. They have a lot of young pieces on offense (especially on the Line) and the ability to maintain some sense of continuity should help. So I think there is always a learning curve when a new coordinator comes in (which has been painfully obvious to me as a Vikings fan), but the fact that they kept it in house should help.2. Should Brett Favre have retired? He's only 37, but some believe that his time has passed. What's your take?In all honesty, I thought the should have retired before last season. Let me...
Barbre inks deal with Packers
2007-07-09 16:19:00
Offensive lineman and fourth round draft pick Allen Barbre was the fifth of the Green Bay Packers' 11 draft choices to sign with the team.According to Todd Korth of Packer Report, "Offensive lineman Allen Barbre, selected in the fourth round of April?s NFL draft by the Packers, signed a contract with the team on Friday, according to a source with access to NFL Players Association data. Terms of Barbre?s contract were not immediately available."Surprisingly Barbre has been practicing with the second team at left guard behind Daryn Colledge despite the lack of a known quantity behind starting left tackle Chad Clifton. Both Barbre and Colledge have collegiate experience at left tackle and one of them will presumably fill in for Clifton when he leaves. The Packers have six draft picks yet to sign including first round choice Justin Harrell.
Worst NFL Preview Ever: Ranks Packers 29th in NFL
2007-07-07 17:19:00
I was reading a few things on the sports wikia site known as ArmchairGM, until I stumbled upon on NFL Off Season Power Ranking. The post written by Armchair user Hbvgamer, places the Packers 29th out of 32 NFL teams. How could they be so low?According to Hbvgamer, "Farve needs to retire! He is doing nothing to help the Packers out. He has been steadily decreasing with every year. Last year he had 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions with a 56% completion rate. Joey Harrington has a better completion percentage with 62.5! Donald Driver is getting all the passes as he is a dominant receiver, but the defenses have figured that out. Their number two receiver, Jennings, caught for less then half the yards then Driver. The running game is completely gone for the Packers, neither their HB's nor FB's have very, very little experience, if any. I hate to say it, but I think their defense may actually be better then their offense. Woodson had 8 interceptions last year and knows how to play the...
Expect defensive tackles to rotate heavily
2007-07-03 17:09:00
With the addition of first round draft pick Justin Harrell, expect the Green Bay Packers to rotate their defensive tackles quite often.Packers defensive tackles coach Robert Nunn told the Green Bay Press-Gazette, "We've told them all along if they suit up, they play. We?ll get them in the game. And we'll probably keep the same rotation. We'll rotate a lot, and if somebody gets hot, they play."Harrell, incumbent starter Ryan Pickett, and the up-and-coming Corey Williams (pictured) will probably be the favorites to start and will make up the top three in the rotation.Key reserves Colin Cole and Johnny Jolly will also be in the mix to get some playing time but will probably get less snaps than the aforementioned top three players.Defensive end Cullen Jenkins will also slide inside on passing downs to get more of a pass rush from the tackle position. And don't forget undrafted rookie Daniel Muir who will fight for a roster spot with the team.Photo credit: Corey Wilson for PackersNews...
Special teams becomes offseason priority
2007-06-29 16:50:00
If you're a regular reader of Railbird Central, you may have heard this before but it bears repeating. It is amazing how much emphasis the Green Bay Packers put on special teams during the 2007 draft. As early as the second day of the draft, Railbird Central noted how general manager Ted Thompson's drafting of special teams standouts was becoming a common thread.Special teams always seems to be the oft-ignored yet crucial aspect of football that people just take for granted. The Green Bay Packers have finished dead last in the NFL in special teams the past two seasons according to the Dallas Morning News's special teams rankings, which factor in 22 categories including all aspects of kick returns, kick coveage, punt returns, punt coverage, field goals, and extra points. Is it any wonder the Packers haven't made the playoffs the past two seasons? In the 2007 draft, the Packers first two draft choices were spent on defensive tackle Justin Harrell and running Brandon Jackson. Obviously...
Biceps injuries can be a bitch
2007-06-25 14:52:00
While digging into the medical world, the Green Bay Press-Gazette warns that biceps injuries can take up to a year and a half to fully heal, and that first round draft pick Justin Harrell is no guarantee to be healthy for the Green Bay Packers this season.Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette writes, "There is a possibility Harrell, no matter how good he feels, will not be at full strength when training camp opens July 28 ? or perhaps anytime this season."The Press-Gazette quotes Dr. Randall Mohler of the California Orthopaedic Institute saying, "(It takes) a year to even a year-and-a-half before muscles will feel fully recovered, and (sustained strength) is one of the last things to come back. Even when someone is in the weight room and says, 'This feels 100 percent,' they'll notice it fatigues faster."There is some reason for optimism, though. It is reported that Harrell bench-pressed 500 pounds in a campus workout for scouts prior to the NFL draft just six months after...
Harrell comments on agent
2007-06-20 14:34:00
Organized team activities are over for the Green Bay Packers. So what's next? Getting their rookies under contract says today's issue of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.And it probably won't be an easy task. Reporter Rob Demovsky of the Press-Gazette says the Packers "have a tight rookie salary pool of $4.907 million, which is the maximum amount of salary cap space the Packers can use to sign their draft picks and undrafted rookie free agents."That figure is about $600,000 more than the average NFL team, but the Packers had the most draft picks in the entire NFL with 11!First round draft choices are always the toughest to sign seeing as they will command the most money, and Packers' first rounder Justin Harrell has an agent that can be tough negotiator in Eugene Parker. "One of his clients, Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson, missed nearly all of his rookie training camp in 2005 before agreeing to a deal," according to Demovsky. It should be noted that Parker also represented P...
Harrell joins local kids at practice
2007-06-05 13:13:00
Some members of the Green Bay Packers practiced at Ray Nitschke Field on Saturday, but not with the rest of their team.According to the Green Bay Packers official website, "Nearly 1,000 youngsters gathered for the 10th annual Junior Power Pack Kids Clinic presented by Kalahari Resorts, a skills camp for members of the Packers' official kids fan club. A one-of-a-kind event in the NFL, members got the opportunity to test their skills on the team's practice field while learning some tips from the pros themselves. Not even light rain during the afternoon session could dampen the mood."Among the players participating with the kids were first round draft pick Justin Harrell, wide receiver Ruvell Martin, and punter Jon Ryan.
OTAs are underway
2007-05-31 13:19:00
On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers had their first Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice of the year in which they'll work on installing their offensive and defensive schemes for the 2007 season. Thursday will mark the first of four practices that will be open to the public. So get ready fans! It's railbird season!First round draft pick Justin Harrell is expected to see his first extended practice time after recovering from a torn biceps last season in college."How much quarterback Aaron Rodgers (foot) will be allowed to participate also will be an area of interest," writes Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Harrell expresses optimism
2007-05-24 13:20:00
Green Bay Packers first round draft pick Justin Harrell was limited in his participation at the past minicamp due to recovering from a torn biceps muscle. The team's OTAs start a week from today and Harrell hopes to be "full go.""It's not clear how many, if any, of the 12 organized team activities first-round draft pick Justin Harrell will be cleared for. He's still recovering from torn biceps he suffered last year in college," reports Green Bay's ABC affiliate, WBAY."Oh yeah, that's the reason they drafted me. I just want to get out there and do my best," Harrell told WBAY.
Harrell hits Green Bay on Friday
2007-05-02 13:25:00
"Justin Harrell, the Packers' first-round draft pick, formally will be introduced on Friday. The defensive tackle from Tennessee will hold a 12:15 p.m. news conference shortly before he takes the field for the team's rookie orientation camp," reports the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The skinny on Harrell
2007-04-28 21:20:00
Let the second guessing begin, but at least tip your hat to the Green Bay Packers for keeping their mouths shut. Very few people saw this coming. The biggest question people have about Harrell right away is his injury history. He ruptured a biceps during the recently completed 2006 season."Ruptured biceps in early September, played with it the next week, however doctors determined he couldn't wait longer for surgery. That injury figures to be healed by training camp, but also injured his ankle while in Knoxville. Seemed to always be battling through some type of pain, an obvious concern at the next level," reports New Era Scouting. On the plus side, Harrell appears to be a hellva competitor.New Era Scouting also says, "Outstanding competitor and leader. Played the Florida game only a week after rupturing his biceps, knowing it would be the last game of his 2006 season."
Packers take fans by surprise!
2007-04-28 21:13:00
Tennessee defensive tackle Justin Harrell is the newest member of the Green Bay Packers. More on Harrell momentarily. Not everyone was surprised by the pick of Harrell, though.NFL.com's Pat Kirwan did, indeed, have the Packers taking Harrell with the No. 16 pick in his mock draft.According to Kirwan, "The Pack need a running back. It is hard to pass on one here, but Harrell's latest workouts have put to rest the injury questions that surrounded the 314-pound DT who will keep the Green Bay defense moving forward against division opponent Chicago, which loves to run the ball."
