Se poate un Kandahar?
2008-05-18 17:14:00
?i cei care te îmbr??i?eaz? pân? la nesfâr?it ... Totu?i o s? erup? vulcanul într-o zi sau noapte, toate au o limit? ?i pa...

Three accused found guilty in Kandahar hijacking case
2008-02-05 08:59:00
A special court here today found the three accused -- Abdul Latif, Dalip Kumar and Yusuf Nepali -- guilty in connection with the Indian Airlines plane IC-814 hijacking case. The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment later. The three were arrested on charges of conspiracy to hijack the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi on December 24, 1999. They have been charged for helping the hijackers in procuring fake passports and to take weapons onboard. They have been lodged in the Patiala jail since 1999. Over 120 witnesses have been examined in the case. The week-long hijack drama ended with the release of three dreaded terrorists, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Zargar and Sheikh Ahmed Omar Sayeed in exchange for 189 people on board the Indian Airlines flight. The hijackers killed Rupen Katyal, 25, and had stabbed Satnam Singh several times but he survived. (ANI)

Embedded Artist in Afghanistan
2007-06-26 17:05:00
In an interesting twist on embedded journalism, artist Richard Johnson is living amongst Canadian troops in Kandahar drawing daily illustrations for the National Post. Johnson is the graphics director for Canada's right-wing newspaper, and has been blogging about his experiences on the Post's website since late May, with several entries and drawings making the crossover to the printed world. Bonus: Scrolling to the bottom of the page will reveal a collection of nude drawings Johnson sketched while preparing for his assignment, which somehow snuck past the Post's morality police. "This girl could really strike a pose and hold it," Johnson comments. "The drawings are good and pretty to look at, but I am still not capturing features as accurately and quickly as I will need to. Still, I don't expect to see a lot of this in Kandahar." Via Drawn.
One-armed bomb manufacturer was captured in Kandahar
2007-04-25 13:46:00
Weird, you say? But apparently, it's true, Canadian troops in Afghanistan captured a one-armed terrorist described as the "mad bomber":ZHARI DISTRICT, afghanistan? The mad bomber has one arm.Which suggests he's committed at least a single painful miscalculation in his life as an explosives alchemist. And yet, even one-handed, he had been making life miserable for Canadian troops in this grim western corner of Kandahar province, his handiwork a constant threat and sometimes terror. When he got it right. When the planets and fates aligned. When a military vehicle crunched its thick wheels over one of his roadside specials or the stride of a combat boot made dreadful contact with just that tiny piece of Ground Zero, death-in-a-canister.The bomber isn't really so mad. As an expert in improvised explosive devices, he was quite the abominable genius, dexterous with just five fingers. His craftsmanship was readily recognizable for those who knew what they were looking at....This bomber we...
