The Diva A Cheesehead???
2008-04-27 19:09:00 The Aging Disco Diva loves God, family, country, Kansas State University, adult beverages, chocolate, the 70s....and now the Green Bay Packers. Why in heaven's name is she adding Cheesehead to her list? Because they had the damn good sense to draft our beloved Jordy Nelson as their first draft pick yesterday. Jordy is a friggin' STUD on the football field and a wonderful, wonderful human being. Green Bay-- you are going to be a better team because of this selection and you can bet the farm that Jordy will never do anything to sully his name nor the reputation of your team. He is a classy kid. Green Bay Made a Great SelectionMANHATTAN ? Jordy Nelson didn't recognize the number when the phone rang."I answered, but I didn't really know who it was," he said. "When they said who it was, I was excited."So was everybody else at Nelson's Landing, the Leonardville restaurant where Nelson works as part-time cook when he isn't playing football. The roar was so loud that Nelson ha...

2008-03-23 04:27:00 The Aging Disco Diva is a bit blue.... my beloved Wildcat men's basketball season is over. We fought the good fight and I am proud of how hard the team played; though a bit disappointed with the brain-dead reaction from some of our so-called fans. As you might have surmised the team lost this evening. When I need some cheering up I have a small group of video titles that just make me smile or laugh. Here are some scenes from my favorite funny movies:Airplane!Princess BrideO Brother Where Art Thou? This is Spinal TapAnything directed by Christopher GuestComing to America (Eddie Murphy is such a dick in real life, but great in this movie)Anything directed by John Waters (The Aging Disco Diva is one sick puppy)The Addams Family and Addams Family ValuesRuthless People (I've watched it probably close to 100 times and still laugh)Young Frankenstein---IMHO the funniest movie ever created. period. My Cousin VinnyLady Wildcats play in the first round of the NCAA tournament tomorrow at 11:...

2008-03-14 20:46:00 The Aging Disco Diva traveled yesterday to the land of the Chickenhawks for a meeting, and though I did enjoy (as always) seeing my awesome colleagues and having as much fun as one can possibly have at a mandatory meeting (which given that I have the world's greatest job usually means a lot of fun) I woke up this morning with a massive headache. If this was a hangover headache I would at least have some great, if somewhat blurry, memories to tide me over, but alas...this is just a plain ole'"You-are-getting-too-damn-o-ld-to-wake-up-at-4:30am-and-tra-vel-three-hours-to -and-three-hours-from-a-meeting-" headache, which are not nearly as much fun as a champagne induced brain splitter. Ho No, or Whatta a Little Spitzer!
2008-03-11 20:20:00 This morning the Aging Disco Diva found herself in the midst of a crisis---I plunged my coffee scoop into the canister and came up with air. A look inside revealed a horror that rivaled anything Tobe Hooper could put on film---a few lousy coffee granules, not even enough for an espresso snort.Wobbling and weaving under the effects of extreme caffeine withdrawal I managed to crawl into the exploding Pinto. Scraping dried, weeks old latte debris from the bottom of a discarded Styrofoam cup I found in the back seat and licking them off of my trembling fingers gave me the strength to drive the half mile or so to our local "Pay More and Buy Less" supermarket. I made a bee line to the coffee isle and dumped a scoop of industrial strength coffee beans into the grinder, placed my open mouth underneath the hopper and pushed the button.Within seconds the twitching stopped and the fog began to lift. I placed twenty bags of coffee beans (enough to last the week) into the cart and headed to the ...

Friday's Gossip Tidbit and Wildcat Noshies
2008-03-07 23:22:00 Today's Gossip NewsJackson 5 reunion? Don't hold your breath...In November, Jermaine Jackson told the BBC that the group "is in the studio at the moment" and a full-scale reunion is set for "sometime in 2008." "We feel we have to do it one more time. We owe that to the fans and to the public," he said."In the studio at the moment" ? Sorry Jermaine, but your brother, shopping for drapes to hang over his turkey baster kids' faces, in a store named "Studio" does not set the stage for a reunion.Unfortunately Michael is now a complete nut bar with extra cashews and I don't think we will ever see him performing again. He is just too fragile mentally.A recent picture of Jermaine just reinforces the idea that plastic surgery is not a friend to the Jackson family.... (except maybe Janet---plea to Miss Jackson--PLEASE, no more surgery...you look fine, if it ain't broke don't put it under the knife)Seriously...I don't know if it is the hairstyle or old plastic surgery gone to hell, but...

2008-03-03 22:31:00 Read It and ItchThis morning as I nibbled daintily on my cholesterol clogging pastries and serenely sipped my double-strength espresso I stumbled upon the latest Amy Winehouse news: She has the creeping crud on her face and it is highly contagious. The singer has been diagnosed with impetigo, her spokesman confirms to PEOPLE.It's a bacterial skin infection that causes pimple-like lumps ? and is "is highly contagious, and scratching or touching the sores is likely to spread the infection to other parts of the body as well as to other people," according to the Mayo Clinic's Web site. As for how the singer's feeling, "She's fine," a pal tells PEOPLE. "She's not hiding away. She's never been one to care what people think."That is almost enough to take a Disco Diva off her feed... Yuck, whatta visual.Unfortunately Amy's creeping face crud story brought back some nasty flashbacks from my diva-in-training days.It was the last month of school, during my senior year, and we had just fi...

2008-02-26 17:46:00 A code red alert has been issued after news hit that Starbucks will be closed for three hours today. Papa Spears has made arrangements for emergency provisions and the mansion is stocked with plenty of frappuccinos for Britney. The Aging Disco Diva actually lives in a town that does not have a Starbucks (Yes, I am languishing in Java Hell) so she is glad to see the world will share her pain, if even for a few hours.Everyone will have to do what I am forced to do: get a minion...I mean.... beloved employee, to do something called BREW A POT OF COFFEE. For the cost of a single fancy Starbucks cuppa I can buy the ingredients necessary to make enough coffee to last a week for a normal person....or half a morning for an Aging Disco Diva. Since my concoctions are 40 calories for the coffee+creamer+syrup+Splenda or 30 calories for a soy latte, I think it is best (for the sake of my ever expanding girth) that there are no Starbucks in this podunk town. Besides, I did try Starbucks twice and...

He was also promoting his new movie about the American Basketball Association, "Semi-Pro." After taking a brief tour of Manhattan's highpoints (i.e., the bars), Eric journeyed to a sold-out Bramlage Coliseum where Will f***ing Ferrell performed with Zach Galifianakas, Demetri Martin, and Nick Swardson. Michael is such a fun kid to listen to.It seems that Dick Vitale agrees with the Aging Disco Diva's assessment of Michael Beasley! He set a school record Saturday against Oklahoma State with his...

Kansas State Women Continue the Beat-Down
2008-02-12 05:03:00 Our men?s team are not the only Wildcat?s on the hard boards who are kicking butt and taking names. Our women are playing fantastic. In the past some of our women?s teams allowed themselves to be pushed around?. whenever we came up against a more physical team we seemed to fade into the woodwork. Kimberly Dietz scored 12 of her 15 points on 3-pointers in the first half and Ashley Sweat added 12 points for Kansas State (16-6, 8-1), off to its best Big 12 start since going 14-1 in 2002-03. Will Ferrell a Wildcat!
2008-02-08 23:44:00 Some fun K-State stuff...Will Farrell is one of those performers that I don?t care for as far as the roles he plays ( the exceptions being ?Elf?, More Cowbell, and his Pearl, the landlord skits,) but that I like as a person. He seems like a real fun guy who does not take himself too seriously and anyone who is comfortable enough to showcase his?how to put this? less than stellar bod, to make people laugh is ok in my book. 2008-02-04 00:40:00 Yesterday was Groundhog?s Day and after both the men?s and women?s KSU basketball teams lost a huge cloud of despair spread over the Wildcat nation which means the groundhog (or our version?the prairie dog) did not see its shadow so we will have an early spring.I do have a groundhog story to tell. The Aging Disco Diva considers herself to be one street smart cookie, but when she first strutted her neon and polyester stuff here in the midlands her lack of ?country? knowledge lead to some interesting situations?. Every little town in the middle of the country has an annual ?GroundHog? dinner?.and they all featured cute little groundhog cartoon characters on their signs and on the flyers posted all over the place. Now, though I was a gen-u-wine city slicker I knew what groundhogs were, of course. The Streak Ends! Wildcats Win.
2008-01-31 06:30:00 I know I said that I would not be posting this evening but the Aging Disco Diva is lit up like Christmas tree...I spent the greater part of this evening screaming my head off, pacing like a woman possessed and consuming adult beverages as I watched my Wildcats BEAT our much hated rival. Damn that sounds good. There is no way I will be able to fall asleep for hours... I am still on an adrenalin high. I cried like a baby at the end of this game. Only a fellow Wildcat could understand the depth of the pain we have suffered for the last 24 years. In fact I tivo'd the game and am watching it again. Hell, I might watch it two or three times before I go to bed.Final score KSU 84 and KU 75...and that was despite some really crappy refereeing. Beasley was practically violated several times during the game and nothing was called. For once though, I will admit that KU actually had SOME calls made against them and Bill Toupee Self about flipped his rug several times. And oh yeah...Remember Ole...
Are we there yet?
2008-01-30 18:46:00 I feel like I am eight years old again and in the back seat of the family car waiting, waiting to get to our destination. Are we there yet? Except that I am an old Disco Diva, sitting in my office, waiting, waiting for tonight's basketball game. Is it time yet? Someone on the GoPowerCat.com board, hoping to refocus our A.D.D. fans' attention back to the important game tonight and away from some bull sheeyat about a football recruit's complaints asked about KU jokes. I have a million of 'em (one can never have enough KU jokes) so to pass the time I decided to post some of them here.WARNING: if you are an easily offended PC warrior you shouldn't even be reading my blog in the first place...but if you are still here....the following WILL offend you so...go away.Coach Mangino recently got lost in the KC area on a recruiting trip. 2008-01-30 04:16:00 Obama in the house!Barack Obama was visiting the Aging Disco Diva's stompin' grounds today; in fact he spoke at a town less than an hour away. I am a proud independent voter who does not believe in party affiliations but I do like Obama and have decided to give him my endorsement...for some odd reason the press has not reported my oh so important backing, LOL. EL DORADO, Kan. - For all the talk about Barack Obama's quest to be the first black president, his visit to his grandfather's hometown Tuesday was a reminder that it is only half the story. Obama is the son of an African father and a white mother from this heartland state, which holds its presidential caucus Feb. 5. "We're family!" Shake It
2008-01-26 03:16:00 The Aging Disco Diva is going to have to make this a brief entry. My coffee machine went belly up today right after breakfast and I was involved with conference calls and phone meetings until after 5pm so I was unable to get my java fix. I love having a job that lets me work in my pajamas (yes, those jobs do exist for a lucky few) but the downside is that I have no one around to run and get me a latte. After chewing a few handfuls of espresso grinds to tide me over I headed to the store to get a replacement. My first pot full was injected directly into a vein and the fog is slowly lifting but I am still a bit woozy. The book club will meet again next Tuesday (I think Tuesdays and Thursdays will work fine for our chit chats) Today?s gossip Today was a slow gossip day. There were the usual ?does she have a bump?? rumors centering on Angelina Jolie. The buzz is that she is expecting twins. I might be in the minority in the gossip world, but I really like Angelina. She was a wild ...
Fighting, Ever Fighting, For a Wildcat Victory!
2008-01-24 05:35:00 Kansas State Sports WebsiteThere is joy in Wildcat land tonight. Our women, who played at home, destroyed Iowa State:"Marlies Gipson recorded her fifth double-double of the season and Kimberly Dietz scored a team-high 16 points as Kansas State ran past Iowa State, 80-49, Wednesday evening at Bramlage Coliseum. With the win, Kansas State (13-5, 5-0 Big 12) extended its winning streak to eight games, the longest since a nine-game streak last season and advanced to 5-0 in the Big 12 for the first time since the 2002-03 season."And our men, despite some real Boulder home town "referee cooking", beat Colorado this evening:"Michael Beasley scored 26 of his game-high 29 points in the second half and had 13 rebounds, leading Kansas State to a 72-56 victory over Colorado Wednesday night. Beasley was 9-for-15 shooting in the second half. Bill Walker added 18 points for Kansas State (13-4, 3-0 Big 12) which won for the fourth straight time. The Wildcats beat Colorado for the fourth consec...
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
2008-01-23 02:51:00 Everyone is still reeling about the Heath Ledger news. The latest information is that police did not find any illegal drugs in the apartment and there was no sign that he had been drinking. Some type of sleeping pills were found by his body but there are conflicting reports as to whether it was a prescription sleep medication or an over the counter medication. It is being reported that he had sick with pneumonia. So damn sad.Wildcat News ESPN giving my Wildcats some love Has the time come for the Wildcats? (click to view article)"This might be the year that Kansas State finally beats Kansas in Manhattan. It has been since 1983 that the Wildcats have beat their in-state rival in their own building, but with Bill Walker finally coming around and Michael Beasley still a load inside -- this may be the year. Do not get me wrong, I have KU as my No. 1 team in the country right now, but after watching KSU destroy A&M Saturday night, I am convinced that KSU is KU's next threa...
Oh Fight You K-State Wildcats!
2008-01-20 20:05:00 The Aging Disco Diva does not normally blog on weekends but I am trying to find something constructive to do (that does not involve consuming the caloric equivalent of a small, third world country) My all-consuming interests do stretch beyond juicy gossip, expensive chocolate, imported champagne and pool boys with six-pack abs. My two greatest passions are my family and Kansas State University. If I had to choose between my favorite Cheese Cloth Shirt and my beloved Wildcats?well, the shirt would have to go.Though I was born in the center of the disco world (New York of course) I spent my formative boogey years (ages 18-21) as a disco diva tearing up the dance floor in Mother?s Worry, the hot disco spot in Aggieville (Manhattan, Kansas) while attending KSU.Yes, I moved from the Big Apple to the Little Apple to attend college and have never regretted the decision.Aggieville is one of the many reasons why I love Manhattan. It is a six block shopping district built right off campus...
In the beginning.....
2008-01-04 21:12:00 Everything has to have a beginning and this blog is no different. I will try my hardest to amuse, share and probably annoy and disgust anyone who stumbles on this voyeuristic journey into my mind.I can be pretty obsessive when it comes to things that catch my attention....devoting tons of time and energy towards exploring, dissecting and analyzing topics to death....until I lose interest and then it is on to the next great adventure. There have been some constants over the years: those things I never seem to lose interest in--namely my family, computers, Kansas State University, chocolate and at the risk of coming off as the queen of narcissism--me. I have long pondered these questions: Why am I here? What is my purpose? Why do so many good things seem to happen in my life? Why am I considered to be lucky? Is it a coincidence that so many major events in my life seemed to materialize because I was in a certain place at a certain time? Why is it that I almost seem to be able to "wil...
