Weird Storyline Showcase: Katamari Damacy and Uncharted
2008-01-02 04:36:00
I'm going to start up a new regular series, the Weird Storyline Showcase. These posts will highlight the wonderfully weird stories of gaming, from the off-the-wall Japanese ones to the poorly written or cliche-filled western ones. These will require a spoiler warning, so I'll post the names of the games whose storylines I'll be discussing before each actual post body. Anyway, for today's showcase I've chosen Katamari Damacy and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. So, just to warn you:Katamari Damacy and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune SPOILER WARNINGSo anyway, Katamari Damacy is probably the best example of the off-the-wall, out-of-left-field, zany, silly Japanese storyline. (The box art on the right is great, isn't it?) In case you haven't heard of it yet, you are the Prince under the King of All Cosmos and you have to roll lots of stuff on Earth up into a huge ball. Your ball (a Katamari) has to be a certain size by the end of the level. The basic trick is rolling smaller things up en...

Katamari creator no longer surprised by gaming
2007-11-28 15:24:00
Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi admitted he might leave games development to try something new. Speaking about creativity in a recent interview, Takahashi said: “Defining the word creativity is difficult in a sense. Even the likes of God of War, for instance, it is really well made. It’s a great graphic game with an interesting ...
Katamari Damacy
2007-11-26 10:52:00
Katamari Damacy (lit. "Clump Spirit") is a third-person puzzle-action video game published and developed by Namco for the PlayStation 2 video game console. It was first released in Japan on March 18, 2004. The game's plot concerns a tiny prince on a mission to rebuild the stars, constellations and Moon, which his father, the King of All Cosmos, has accidentally destroyed. This is achieved by rolling a magical, highly adhesive ball called a katamari around various locations, collecting increasingly larger objects, ranging from thumbtacks to thumbpicker, bike, boat, whale, bridge, plane, skyscraper to a vulcano, until the ball has grown large enough to become a star. The game falls under both the puzzle and action game genres, since strategy as well as dexterity are needed to complete a mission. In Japanese, Katamari means "clump" or "clod" and Damashii is the rendaku form of tamashii which means "soul" or &am...

Don't need to say anything. Just to see it is fun.  Thanks Steve T.    It's a great cake - - but I have a feeling that if Duff Goldman and his "Ace of Cakes" team made a Katamari Cake, there'd be little cows, school kids, fish, cats and taiyaki stands stuck to the outside of this thing.......and the Prince would be made out of fondant of course...  (I think I hear my cel phone ringing....)

Beautiful Katamari Demo Review
2007-08-03 17:51:00
I got my copy on the September issue, #74, of Official Xbox Magazine last night and on this month's disc there is an exclusive demo of Beautiful Katamari. I've never played Katamari before so this was all new to me. At first I was not really impressed with a game where all you do is roll around and try to pick up larger and large objects, but once I got large enough to pick up a cow it got pretty funny. I can see how the simple gameplay could get really addictive as you try to get a larger and lager each time you play. The graphics had the artsy pastel style I expected from the videos and screen shots I've seen. The demo is only 3 minutes long, but you can play it over and over again if you want to. Personally, I think this might be a game that is better on a larger screen than on something small like the PSP since you can see more of what is around you to try and roll over. I was able to get my Katamari up to about 4 and a half meters which I realize is not super large, b...

MAKE: Bewdiful Katamari papercraft
2007-07-07 04:26:00
To accompany the news that Beautiful Katamari is bypassing the PS3 in favor of the Wii I thought some Katamari craft was in order. Wii owners can celebrate the announcement with their new Katamari Prince papercraft, while PS3 owners can place the papercraft in front of their TV set, squint really hard, and imagine a wonderful alternate dimension in which they are actually playing Beautiful Katamari on their PS3.Of all the Katamari crafts floating around I chose the Tiny Prince paper toy because it doesn't look too tricky (as far as papercrafts go). And because the Prince is really cute. You can download the print-out via the link below.[Paper Toy Friday: The Tiny Prince at Warm 'n Fuzzy]
Rumor: New Katamari Skips PS3 For Wii
2007-07-02 00:43:00
Earlier this year, Namco Bandai announced that Beautiful Katamari was coming to PS3 and Xbox 360. A Wii version had been rumored for quite a while as well, but supposedly nothing ever came of it.Now comes a rumor from IGN that Beautiful Katamari may be ditching the PS3 altogether in favor of a brand new re-concepted version for Nintendo.According to the report, "...sources close to Namco Bandai tell IGN that the studio ran into some trouble with the port of the game to PlayStation 3 and these issues, coupled with the stalled sales of the system, have led to the project's quiet cancellation. Looking to better-than-expected sales of Wii, the company has, say insiders, re-shifted resources to ready a Wii build of Beautiful Katamari instead. Given that the title cannot be ported from Xbox 360, the game is being re-concepted for Nintendo's console."This would be horrific news, indeed. But hope is still alive, since Namco Bandai hasn't said anything on the record about the rumors.

Beautiful Katamari is set to roll on to your Xbox 360 this October, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until then to start rolling people and objects into huge balls. Via Jay is Games comes this Katamari Damacy mini-game hosted on Namco's Damacy Japanese website. The game itself is quick and simple: use the King head to lead your little character around the field, adding smaller objects to your ball until you can pick up bigger objects, eventually becoming so big that the grass itself becomes part of your ball and reveals a secret image. You'll probably only play it once, but that's not the point: it's cute and free and Katamari.[Click the below image to play]

We Love KatamariGenre:? Plateform: PS2 ESRB:E10 Players:1-2 Whoa! Flying Panadas, people dancing with Mushrooms, this must be an acid trip! Oh Wait, I'm just playing We Love Katamari, the sequel to the cult classic of 2004. We Love Katamari features a humorous storyline. After the events from the previous one, The King received a bunch of letters from loyal fans saying how awesome it would be if he could roll up a bunch of useless stuff for them, then turn them into stars. The King accepted the challenge, but instead of doing it by himself, he sends The Prince and all of his cousins to do these tasks. Nothing has changed in this game, except the challenges. These challenges various from rolling up huge cities, to rolling up fireflies so a guy can skip paying his lighting bills. There's not allot to talk about in this game, since you can find all of these features from the original one. However, there's the inclusion of two multiplayer modes, other than t...
