Roger Lee Hayden On A Kawasaki At Laguna Seca. Now Definitely.
2007-07-11 20:42:00 Although it was widely expected that Roger Lee Hayden would get a wildcard ride on the Kawasaki ZX-RR at the Laguna Seca MotoGP round, official confirmation stubbornly refused to appear. Now, though, Kawasaki have finally confirmed that World Champion Nicky Hayden's younger brother will definitely get a wildcard at Laguna. Hayden is currently riding for the factory Monster Kawasaki team in AMA Superbikes, which is why he was offered the ride. The press release itself is fairly unremarkable, except for the final comments by Michael Bartholemy, the team's manager: Originally we had no intention of running any wild card riders this year, but we were able to look again at the possibility after the Catalunya race and it quickly became apparent that there was an opportunity for us to run a third bike at Laguna Seca. He later continues: Who knows? Maybe this will be the start of us using wildcard riders more in the future or, possibly, running a third bike full time in the champions...

Rumors of Hopkins' impending departure have been rumbling around the paddock for some time now, and were given further momentum when Kawasaki told the press they expected to announce a major name to join the team at the Sachsenring round. Now, news of that announcement has slipped out prematurely. The move for Hopkins is a very big step. This is Hopkins' 5th year with Suzuki, so moving to a new team will require a major mental shift. Although both Randy de Puniet and Anthony West are doing very well on the updated Ninja ZX-RR, the Kawasaki Racing Team feel they need an experienced and talented rider to put their machine on the box, where they feel it belongs. And now, it seems, a decision could be near. Motorcycle News is reporting that Kawasaki will announce that they have signed either Loris Capirossi, Marco Melandri or John Hopkins at the Sachsenring MotoGP round in Germany on the weekend of July 15th. Loris Capirossi is believed to be the most likely name to be signed, as the Italian veteran is deeply unhappy at his treatment by Ducati. 2007-06-27 13:51:00 Rather old news by now, but in an interview on MotoGP.com, Ian Wheeler, Communication Manager of the Kawasaki Racing Team confirmed that Roger Lee Hayden, the youngest of the three racing Hayden brothers, would be riding the Kawasaki ZX-RR at the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. At least, that's what Kawasaki hope. For suprisingly, Roger Lee's manager, Steve Dicterow, told RoadRacing World that the deal is yet to be confirmed. In that interview, Dicterow says that Hayden still has a few hoops to jump through before receiving official confirmation that Dorna will accept his entry as a wild card rider. Although this is likely to be little more than a formality, it's still a little surprising that Kawasaki chose to announce the news before Hayden's entry has been finalized. Kawasaki confirmed to Motorcycle News that Anthony West has officially joined the Kawasaki Racing Team to ride the MotoGP bike for the rest of the season, replacing Olivier Jacque. Kawasaki were known to be unhappy with OJ, and with the French veteran being injured so often, it meant that the full weight of testing and development fell on the still young shoulders of Randy de Puniet. After West tested the Kawasaki after the Catalunya round, ostensibly to help test tires, the team was so impressed with his technical feedback that he became a serious candidate to replace OJ. Dutch racing site Racesport.nl is reporting that Ant West is on the entry list as a wildcard on the Kawasaki for the British Grand Prix at Donington on Sunday. What's more, as we speculated here before, Racesport is saying that West will take Jacque's place for the rest of the year. OJ's injuries look like putting a premature end to the Frenchman's career, and the Kawasaki team have made no secret of their dissatisfaction with his performance this year. Kawasaki Honor Their Word: Fonsi Nieto Subs For OJ
2007-05-16 13:21:00 Word has finally come from Kawaski that Fonsi Nieto will substitute for the injured Olivier Jacque at Le Mans. The Spaniard, currently riding for Kawasaki in World Superbikes, had a verbal agreement with Kawasaki that he would get first shot at replacing an injured rider in MotoGP. Though Nieto has no experience of the MotoGP bikes, he spent a long time racing in the 250cc Championship, winning 5 races in the series. The decision leaves Neil Hodgson out in the cold. His name had been linked with OJ's ride, but prior commitments, and Nieto's existing contract with Kawasaki, made Nieto the logical choice.
