Kershaw dominates Cards; Ramirez homers in LA win (AP)
2008-08-08 03:24:00
Clayton Kershaw went right after St. Louis Cardinals hitters who had put up 15 runs the previous two games. It turned out to be the perfect game plan. The 20-year-old rookie worked seven dominant innings and Manny Ramirez homered for the fourth time in six games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who averted a three-game ...
Dodgers' Kershaw will get it ... eventually
2008-06-05 13:15:00
Trumpets and hype heralded the arrival of the pride of the Dodgers' farm system. He would be the savior, every fifth day. All hail. Three starts and no victories isn't quite what the trumpets and hype promised. We're talking about Clayton Kershaw, yes, but we're also talking about Chad Billingsley according to the Los Angeles Times. Billingsley was Kershaw in 2006, minus the YouTube curveball: Great stuff, uneven command, too many pitches in too few innings. Billingsley got it, in time. Kershaw will get it, too, but not in time to start the All-Star game, perhaps not even in time to hang around the major leagues when Jason Schmidt comes back. Kershaw has a good arm, and a good head on his shoulders too. He knows better than to puff himself up with Baseball America clippings, and with the fans who read them and lionize him."I don't put a lot of credibility in that," Kershaw said. "It's great to be liked here, but first I've got to prove myself."

Thoughts on Kershaw, Bruce, Stewart & Smith
2008-05-27 23:37:00
Kershaw, Bruce, Stewart & Smith sounds like a law firm to me. Add in William Shatner and you have a quality TV series. All four were called up by their respective big league teams, so let's take a look at what they bring to the fantasy table: Clayton Kershaw, SP-LAD: Ranked as the #5 prospect in the game by Jim Callis and Kevin Goldstein, Kershaw was the unanimous top left handed pitching prospect heading into the season. His stuff is that of an ace. According to Baseball America, Kershaw throws a fastball that sits around 93-94, touching 99 a couple of times last year. He also throws a 71-77 mph curveball with good 1-7 tilt. His circle changeup ranked as a potential third plus pitch, though I haven't read anything about his progress on that pitch this season. Kershaw is a dominant strikeout pitcher, logging an 11.76 K/9 in his 202.1 career MiLB innings. He struggled with his command last year at AA, logging a 6.32 BB/9 rate, but he got it back under control this year with a 3...
Trendspotting: Clayton Kershaw, Jay Bruce
2008-05-27 01:14:00
It's Monday night as I write this, and I know that I have no hope at getting Clayton Kershaw with my number four waiver in my Experts League. I was happy enough to get Bartolo Colon, only because no one wanted to use their waiver on him, even if it meant a blind faith in eleven other players passing on the Dodgers phenom. But now that an imminent add hangs in the balance, another contender for that number one waiver priority comes to light--Jay Bruce. Between the two, who should you add? Clayton Kershaw: The easy answer to this question should be "whichever position you need more". However, with the upside of both candidates, its simply not that easy. Kershaw, he of a front page article on Yahoo! (the actual page, completely unrelated to sports), could in theory be Phil Hughes or Tim Lincecum. As I mentioned after his debut, his issue has been yielding walks, but he's gotten away with it by giving up exactly zero homeruns while in the minors (2.28 ERA, 1.08 WHIP). His K/9 was 9.76...

Andruw Jones on DL, Kershaw called up from Double-A (AP)
2008-05-25 06:06:00
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed center fielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of an injured right knee that will require surgery and sideline him at least 4 to 6 weeks. Jones, who signed a two-year, $36.2 million contract last winter after 12 good seasons with the Atlanta Braves, has struggled in ...

Kershaw expected to make big league debut Sunday (AP)
2008-05-25 00:54:00
The Dodgers purchased the contract of standout prospect Clayton Kershaw from Double-A Jacksonville on Saturday, and the 20-year-old left-hander is expected to make his big league debut Sunday in the finale of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers also designated Esteban Loaiza for assignment after activating the right-hander from the 15-day ...
Kershaw to start tomorrow
2008-05-24 22:29:00
BY ADAM RONIS The Dodgers have recalled 20-year-old lefthander Clayton Kershaw from Double-A Jacksonville. In 43 1/3 innings, he allowed 32 hits, 15 walks and struck out 47. He had a 2.28 ERA. Pick him up in deep mixed leagues and NL-only leagues.
Esteban Loaiza DFA'd - Kershaw Called Up
2008-05-24 16:22:00
It's a DFA kind of day, I suppose. To make room for the much-anticipated call-up of 20-year old lefty Clayton Kershaw, the Los Angeles Dodgers designated Esteban Loaiza for assignment today. The team now has ten days to either trade him or release him unless Loaiza accepts a demotion to AAA Las Vegas. In his final year of a three-year deal worth over $21MM, Loaiza is guaranteed at least $7MM in 2008, plus has a $375K buyout on a 2009 option. Picked up by the Dodgers after he was waived by Oakland back in August, Loaiza's struggles in the Bay Area followed him down to LA, where he compiled a 6.94 ERA in twelve appearances. The 36-year old righty has been on the DL since early May due to a shoulder problem. Posted by Paul Moro

On Thursday night, Dodgers prospect Clayton Kershaw was pulled from his start after just one inning. He’s healthy, he’s pitching well, and the Dodgers need a fifth starter exactly five days from last night. Putting two and two together, it’s becoming obvious that Kershaw will be making his major league debut next Tuesday ...

Kershaw could be called up
2008-05-23 18:39:00
BY ADAM RONIS Dodgers 20-year-old phenom Clayton Kershaw, a lefthanded pitcher, was removed from his Double-A start yesterday after one inning fueling speculation that he could be on his way to the major leagues. The Dodgers will need a fifth starter on Tuesday or the Dodgers could pitch him on Saturday to give Brad Penny an extra day of rest. Kershaw has received very little run support at Double-A Jacksonville which is why he is 0-3. In 43 1/3 innings, he has a 2.28 ERA, 47 strikeouts, 15 walks and a .202 batting average against.

Odds and Ends: Kershaw, Medders, Tavarez
2008-05-23 13:18:00
Hopefully they'll let you leave work early today in anticipation of the holiday weekend.  Before you go, here are some random links. RotoAuthority takes a look at Clayton Kershaw, who may be called up soon. Brandon Medders was DFA'd to make room for Doug Davis.  Not to be mean, but the 28 year-old reliever doesn't do anything particularly well. The Glendon Rusch signing takes the Rockies out of the Julian Tavarez sweepstakes.  Jayson Stark said the Brewers made a run at Tavarez a week ago. Paul Sullivan suggests that Jim Edmonds may be on a short leash in Chicago. Jon Heyman grades last winter's trades. We've filled the Sunday afternoon writing gig...many thanks to all who applied.

Rosenthal's Latest: Hudson, Turnbow, Laird, Kershaw
2008-05-04 11:51:00
Rumorland Ambassador Ken Rosenthal has posted yet another Full Count video.  Let's get sifting: Rosenthal thinks Orlando Hudson could be shown the money this offseason if he opts to explore free agency.  Hudson most likely won't be offered market value by the Dbacks.  Rosenthal posits the Orioles, Cards, Dodgers, and Mariners as potential buyers. 4 unnamed teams are interested in Derrick Turnbow, who is making $3.2MM this year.  According to KR, the Brewers would need to throw money in a deal or get a comparable salary in return - as the saying goes, you trade contracts, not players.  Turnbow needs a fresh start and middle relief is always in demand; however, a lot of teams have better internal options and could see Turnbow as a project for better or worse. Gerald Laird update: Reds, Yankees, and Brewers all passed.  But Rosenthal still expects Laird to end up somewhere and notes that whoever gets him has him through 2010. The Dodgers are planning on ...

Dodgers | Kershaw invited to remain in big league camp
2008-03-09 18:11:00
Updating a previous item, the Orange County Register's Tony Jackson reports Los Angeles Dodgers prospect SP Clayton Kershaw has been invited to remain in big league camp throughout spring training. He had an impressive outing Sunday, March 9, against the Boston Red Sox, after coming over from minor league camp. The 19-year-old retired Red Sox 3B Mike Lowell, OF J.D. Drew and 1B Sean Casey in order. However, manager Joe Torre said the team had already decided to keep him in big league camp before the game started. "That was some of the best stuff I have seen in a long time as far as a new arm," said Casey.

Kershaw Signed to Practice Squad
2007-10-31 07:12:00
A day after the team promoted Akeem Jordan, the Eagles replaced him on the practice squad with second-year linebacker William Kershaw. Jordan was promoted Monday after the team cut former second-round pick Matt McCoy.The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Kershaw entered the league as a rookie free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006. He spent the majority of his rookie season on the Chiefs practice squad before being promoted to their 53-man roster for the final regular season game and the AFC Wild Card game at Indianapolis, where he registered three special teams tackles. The 23-year-old Kershaw saw action in the Chiefs opening-day game at Houston this year before being released on September 19.A native of Raeford, NC, Kershaw registered 204 tackles, 3 sacks and one interception during his collegiate career at Maryland.>>Home Page

Kemp/Kershawn for Santana
2007-09-28 17:27:00
Well it's what I call an "official possibility" now.  In his ESPN.com chat yesterday afternoon, Jonah Keri of Page 2 confirmed the Johan Santana for Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw rumor that's been generating a lot of buzz here at MLBTR.  Let's discuss, shall we?  Kemp and Kershaw both have 6 years before they reach free agency.  Santana has 1.  There's the obvious red flag right there, Dodgers fans.  But if Los Angeles GM Ned Colletti wants to win now, and he usually does, Santana could be the golden ticket.  I shudder to think of how dominant Santana could be not only in the NL but also in Dodgers Stadium. If you're the Twins, and you know you can't afford Santana, I think this is a no-brainer.   Especially if (big if) you think you have Francisco Liriano returning to form. The question remains:  Is an ace like Johan what the Dodgers need to win?  I'm not so sure.  They're rotation has been solidified by...

The Kershaw Blur is one of my favourite Ken Onion designs from the Kershaw line. I love the grip tape look that was made popular by Microtech several years ago. The Blur takes that signature Onion style and takes a more tactical flat handle approach, which is not typical of Ken Onion designs.
