Lesson #2 for Rookie Kevin Durant
2008-01-16 03:44:00 As if Kevin Durant didn't learn the first time he went up against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, the second time must have been twice as bad as Kobe just tore him up for 48 points and an overtime victory in Seattle, Ouch! The Supersonics gave the Lakers a run for the money, so I am not saying they didn't give it the old college try, but once the game came down to the wire, they had no answer for number 24.Kevin Durant had a horrible game shooting basketball, only hitting 6 for 26 shots for 19 points. It seemed fairly obvious that Durant was trying to match everything that Kobe was putting up by throwing up garbage from three point land towards the end of the game. The kid is good and he will most definitely be one of the best players in the league, but he has got to lay off throwing up the junk if he actually wants to win some games this season.Kobe Bryant was on his game Monday, hitting jumper after jumper and making some pretty sweet plays off the dribble and into the pa...

The Kevin Durant Tax
2008-01-07 07:44:00 Oklahoma City has set a date in early March to vote on a 1 cent sales tax that will be used to fund improvements to the Ford Center in the hope of landing an NBA team (don’t tell Seattle residents, but it’s the Sonics). Whenever there’s a vote like this I always wonder what the people with no interest in professional sports are thinking. They don’t give a shit about luring the Sonics to their city. What they give a shit about is having to pay 1 cent more for toilet paper. Imagine if all of the sudden you had to pay a few cents more so your city could build a $200 million museum dedicated to the history of ballet. You would flip your shit. (That’s sort of what happened in Pittsburgh—after using taxpayer funds to build stadiums for the Steelers and Pirates, the good citizens had enough. They turned their backs on giving the Penguins a new arena and the team nearly left town. Fortunately, the good people who build slot machines and casinos were...

Kevin Durant Gets First Lesson from Kobe
2007-11-28 10:54:00 The streak is over! Hallelujah and thank you Kobe!I know it was only a three game losing streak and it was against the Seattle Supersonics, but a win is a win and losing streak can easily turn a team inside out, especially with how vulnerable the Lakers are to media scrutiny these days.Well, lets get to the game shall we. First off, rookie Kevin Durant played a hell of a game scoring 25 points (12 in the last 6 minutes) against the Lakers, I have to give it to this kid, one day he will be a big star in this league, but he has to make his team better first like LeBron James did in Cleveland or he will just be a scoring machine on a team going nowhere fast.On the other side of the ball, Kobe Bryant put on his usual offensive display by scoring 35 points on an impressive 12-22 shooting (I know it is only barely over 50%, but it is an improvement) and grabbing 8 boards (looking more and more like an average of 8 rpg) and dishing 6 assists. The supporting cast wasn't that bad either wit...

Seattle Supersonics News: What Will Kevin Durant Do?
2007-10-13 18:29:00 No sooner do I bring-up fantasy basketball as a distant cousin to fantasy football and baseball then ESPN The Magazine arrives with its fantasy hoops preview. The opening sentence is:As RC is among colas, so is hoops: a distant third [to fantasy football and baseball.] Matt Berry furthers adds "It is a nerdy girl from a cheesy comedy who takes off her glasses to reveal she is really, really hot. In other words, it is your favorite fantasy sport- you just don't realize it yet." Maybe this is how Java Man felt as he thought he was an original evolving towards Homo Sapien status only to find other Home Erectii were doing the same thing in other parts of the unknown world. That aside, what I wanted to check is where the ESPN folks ranked Seattle Supersonics rookie Kevin Durant. I know he will get the ball a lot and fill the coutning categories, but I had concerns about his effect on the percentage and turnover categories prior to last night's 5-22 effort. Checking their rankings, ESPN...

My NBA Draft Winners and Losers
2007-06-29 06:51:00 WINNERSPortland TrailblazersSo obviously they are huge winners in getting Oden but they really took it a step further. I absolutely love the deal they swung with the Knicks sending Zack Randolph out East for Steve Francis (once dubbed "Franchise") and Channing Frye. Francis will start at PG while Frye adds depth to the front court. Even though Randolph is a great player he was going to get logjammed with Aldridge and Oden so that was a great move. Portland's starting 5 will be young and tremendous next year and for years to come. This is what I'm looking at for their starting 5: Francis, Roy, Aldridge, Oden, and maybe Frye or Jack. Plus they'll have great youth on the bench with (like I said either Frye or Jack) plus Rudy Fernandez (like him), Taurian Green, and McRoberts. Basically I want to know if it is too late to be a Trailblazers fan? Seattle Super SonicsOnce again they would be winners for the sole fact of just getting Durant. However, they got much much more. How they wer...

Complete Coverage: NBA Draft [David Stefanini]
2007-06-26 14:50:00 With a lot of things going around in the NBA today I think it is time to do a full rundown of exactly what is going on.First the big news of the day is a potential 4-team trade involving the Celtics, Pacers, T'Wolves, and Lakers. The trade would bring Kevin Garnett to the Lakers to pair with Kobe Bryant. The Celtics would get Jermaine O'Neal, the Pacers would get Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom, and the lonely T'Wolves would get draft picks. Why is this trade likely to happen? The Lakers desperately want to please Kobe. Getting Garnett would make Kobe very happy and stop all the trade talks surrounding him. The Celtics would get an All-Star center to go along with Paul Pierce making them a force in the East. The Pacers would get 2 very good players; one of them being a potential Super-Star. The T'Wolves will finally have let Garnett go after screwing the world and Garnett out of 10 years. Why is the trade not going to happen? Kevin Garnett wants to go to Phoenix. The Lakers are a good...

An Interview With Darren Rovell
2007-06-13 15:06:00 When we are kids, we think of sports as nothing more than games being played by larger than life figures. We idolize these men and women, and think they are playing for our city, for our team, because they want to win for the sake of the us - the fans. The process of growing up means many hard truths are learned, and one of those hard truths is that sports are a big business played by rich men on teams owned by even richer men. Billions of dollars worth of transactions take place in sports every year. That is where Darren Rovell comes in.As the leading expert in the world of sports business, Rovell is a busy man. He runs his own blog on cnbc.com called Sports Biz, appears on CNBC television, is a guest on many national radio programs and has written two books, First in Thirst: How Gatorade Turned the Science of Sweat into a Cultural Phenomenon and On the Ball: What You Can Learn About Business From America's Sports Leaders. Darren was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to...
Orlando Pre-Draft Camp: Primeras mediciones

2007 NBA Mock Draft
2007-05-24 07:13:00 Here's The Sports Flow's 2007 NBA Mock Draft:1. Portland Trail Blazers- Greg OdenPlease Portland, take Oden. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take a player with this caliber. Big men like this are hard to come by these days and believe me, he won't disappoint. It would be smart to take him over Kevin Durant.2. Seattle Sonics- Kevin DurantI bet the Sonics were jumping out of their pants when they heard they had the 2nd pick. It looks like Rashard Lewis will not be sticking around much longer and Durant will be able to take his place. He is a franchise type player and once he puts on some mass, he'll be an all star.3. Atlanta Hawks- Brandan WrightThe Hawks have many options here... they could use a PG in Mike Conley Jr. but I don't believe they will go that way with this high of a pick. They could use a center in Al Horford or Yi Jianlian as well. But I don't think they can pass on Wright even though they already have some good forwards. They seem to draft a forward e...

WHICH WILL IT BE? [Snave]
2007-05-23 05:13:00 SO, now that the NBA draft lottery winners have been decided, who will play where? Will the #1 pick be Greg Oden (pictured) or Kevin Durant?I say "winners" because I live in the Pacific Northwest, and against big odds, the Portland Trailblazers won the right to choose first in this year's NBA draft, and the Seattle Supersonics will pick second! I have been a serious Blazers fan for over 30 years, but I have also followed the Sonics for the past 20 years or so. This is sweet! The Portland Oregonian has an unscientific poll going, and so far the fans want the franchise to choose Oden by about a 3-1 margin. I agree, in that a bonafide NBA "big man" only seems to come along once or twice every ten years. Portland's GM Kevin Pritchard wants to meet with both players prior to the draft; it was this interview process which led the team to choose Brandon Roy first last year. During the years when Bob Whitsitt was the Blazers' GM, the team suffered greatly in the character department. Now ...

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant Wins Player of the Year
2007-03-30 19:39:00 The inevitable finally came to fruition this afternoon, as Texas super phenom Kevin Durant won the AP National Player of the Year award overwhelmingly, earning 70 of the 72 overall votes, with the other two votes going to Wisconsin's Alando Tucker. Durant is now the first freshman to ever win the prestigious honor, and as the voting reflected, there was no question about it.Durant probably had the most eye-popping statistical season ever for a freshman, with his 25.8 scoring average and 11.1 rebound average. Not just averaging a double-double, but doing so comfortably. And he came up big in Texas's most important games, upping his scoring average in 5 postseason games (Big 12 Tournament, NCAAs) to 28.5 per game.Certainly it helped his case that he was by far the most talented player on the Longhorns, (a team that probably would have been a #7-#10 seed in the NCAA Tournament without him), meaning he had to carry the load. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he is a spect...

[College] Does Kevin Durant already have a Nike shoe deal on the table?
2007-03-21 16:38:00 Already sporting Nike If there’s any question whether Kevin Durant is going to go pro this season, a phone call from Kobe might have sealed the deal. According to Chip Brown of the Dallas Morning News, Kobe Bryant called Nike on behalf of Nike to pitch a shoe deal ... |
