Assisted-Suicide Advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian Running for US Congress
2008-03-12 18:35:00
I was very upset when I heard that this compassionate individual was sentenced to eight years for second-degree murder in the assisted death of Mr. Thomas Youk, who was a man suffering with Lou Gehrig's disease, and I wholeheartedly agree with his statement, "We need some honesty and sincerity instead of corrupt government in Washington," which is why I hope Dr. Kevorkian AND Dennis Kucinich win their coveted US Congressional seats.READ ABOUT THIS HERE Practice non-violence in your lives. Chronic Pain and Suicide - Paging Dr. Kevorkian
2008-01-05 23:15:00
The connection centrally located chronic pain and thoughts of suicide is a strong one. Studies have shown that as profuse as 50% of community with chronic non-malignant (non-cancer) pain have thought about suicide. In the behind 1990's there were two well-publicized cases of persons with chronic pain (one had arthritis and one had fibromyalgia) who were apparently assisted in suicide by Dr. Kevorkian. While those cases triggered a lot of discussion about the ethical, moral and legal issues analogous to suicide, they still speak to the very real issue of chronic pain and suicide. There is a close association surrounded by chronic pain and depression, which is very understandable in light of the chronic drain in emotional and physical energy that originates with chronic pain. There are and, of plan, the losses; of income, conjunctions, and ability to engage in the activities you used to enjoy. So what triggers that leap from depression to suicidal thoughts? Research has identified t...

I knew a woman who had ALS. She bravely endured the horrible affliction for four years and when she could take it no longer she decided to die in the only way available to her. She starved herself to death. It took her 10 days. That is cruel and indefensible but in most of the world ...

Author: Eric Subject: Kevorkian Freed After Years in Prison for Aiding SuicidePosted: Sat Jun 02, 2007 1:06 pm (GMT -4) Kevorkian Freed After Years in Prison for Aiding Suicide MONICA DAVEY CHICAGO, June 1 — Jack Kevorkian, the former pathologist who brought the debate over physician-assisted suicide into the national spotlight a decade ago, saying he had helped 130 terminally ill people in their deaths, stepped out of a Michigan prison on Friday having pledged not to assist anyone else. Mr. Kevorkian, 79, looked slightly frailer than he had when he was sent to prison eight years ago, convicted of second-degree murder in one death. One in a long list of conditions Mr. Kevorkian agreed to as part of a two-year period of parole, Michigan prison officials said, was not to participate in future suicides. Mr. Kevorkian said little to reporters as he was whisked away from a medium-security prison meant for the elderly in Coldwater, Mich., but his release set off a flood of re...
Dr. Kevorkian freed early
2007-06-02 05:50:00
By P.J. Huffstutter, LA Times Staff Writer6:36 PM PDT, June 1, 2007 CHICAGO -- Jack Kevorkian -- the infamous "Dr. Death" considered a remorseless murderer by some and a compassionate physician by others -- was released on parole Friday from a Michigan prison after serving eight years. The frail 79-year-old, wearing his familiar light-blue cardigan and a tie over a button-down shirt and dress slacks, walked slowly out of the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater, Mich., and grinned cheerfully. Telling a crowd of reporters outside the detention center that leaving prison was one of the "high points of life," the retired pathologist waved goodbye as he and attorney Mayer Morganroth stepped into a white van and drove away.In December, the Michigan Parole Board granted his request to leave prison early -- after eight years of a 10- to 25-year sentence for second-degree murder -- because of his good behavior and a promise not to conduct more assisted suicides. But Kevor...

Dr. Jack Kevorkian Freed From Prison
2007-06-01 19:16:00
From the article: "It's got to be legalized. That's the point," Dr. Kevorkian told WJBK-TV in Detroit. "I'll work to have it legalized. But I won't break any laws doing it." Love your reply. I agree with you, doctor. Dr. Kevorkian never should have televised that segment with Mr. Thomas Youk. He should have just gone on about his business helping people to die with dignity. I am pleased that Dr. Kevorkian is able to resume his life as a free individual. I wish him the best of luck and success in his endeavor. READ ABOUT THIS HEREPractice non-violence in your lives. The Kevorkian Effect
2007-05-29 12:26:00
To some, Dr. Jack Kevorkian is a hero, and to others he is a villain. But, no one can dispute that he brought the issues of end-of-life care and physician-assisted suicide into public debate.According to this article from the Associated Press, he will be released from prison on June 1st after serving more than eight years of a 10-25 year sentence for the death of a Michigan man.He used a machine he'd invented to administer fatal drugs and dropped off bodies at hospital emergency rooms or coroner's offices, or left them to be discovered in the motel rooms where he often met those who wanted his help.At the time, some doctors didn't want to give dying patients too much pain medication, fearing they'd be accused of hastening death.Kevorkian said that he would be happy to go to jail for his beliefs. But, what effect has he really had in the area of physician-assisted suicide? Up to this day, only one state, Oregon, has a law allowing physician assisted suicide.Experts say that's be...

Consider what is happening at Children's Hospital of Austin where 17-month-old Emilio Gonzales, who is on a respirator. The establishment say its medical efforts are futile and the child is suffering. It invoked a state law that allows hospitals to end life-sustaining treatment over the parents desire to keep him on the respirator.Excuse me? Even the academics at the Gleitsman Foundation and Harvard University should be able to call this one… it’s a no-brainer, a walk in the park, a proverbial piece of cake.
