2007-12-25 01:20:00
2007 brought us many reality television memories, and we here at Buzz[Killed] are going to take a moment to look back at all the wonderful reality moments (and not so wonderful reality moments) of 2007. What I Learned From Kid Nation? [The Finale]

The job board, essentially just a list, seemed to be the only thing keeping the town together. Once it burnt down in the first ever unnatural disaster in Bonanza City, chaos ensued. Perhaps we should just build a job board for the Middle East, after all it would restore the mayhem and give everyone ...
Kids will be kids on tonight’s season finale of CBS’ Kid Nation
2007-12-12 00:00:00
When I heard about Kid Nation back in May, I predicted it would be the first show cancelled. In fact I refused to watch it, but then for some reason I decided to give the show a shot. I am so glad I did because it was so great to watch the kids in Kid ...

I’ve had suspicion of Alex being a robot for a couple weeks now, last night gave further evidence. Native American actors can offer us all a ...

Kid Nation?s Ambigously Gendered Kid, Actually ?Gay? Boy
2007-11-26 02:07:00
For the past couple weeks I’ve been distraught as to the gender of Markelle on CBS’s Kid Nation. I’ve questioned his gender from the beginning and thought he could be a he/she kid placed in Bonanza City simply to fulfill their diversity clause. Turns out some alert readers did the research for me. Markelle, IS actually a ...

Isolated case? Telling the whole world that the case of Mariannet is an isolated case is clearly irresponsible a statement and an oversight of the glaring truths that the government itself has known. Jared (pictured above) will never get laid, neither in Bonanza City nor in the real world for the rest of his life. CBS plans to dominate NLCS with reruns of Kid Nation
2007-10-10 18:33:00
NEW YORK, NY -- With one NLCS team hidden a mile high amongst the snow-topped Rocky Mountains and the other buried deep in the desert of the Southwest, TV watchers in the big media markets – whose ball clubs were mostly swept out of the playoffs – are looking to tune out of October and bury their sorrows in some alternate programming.CBS believes they have the answer."The Rockies and Diamondbacks don't make for a sexy match up," said an upper-level CBS executive in an exclusive interview with SSNN. "We're planning on grabbing those East Coast and Midwest viewers with reruns of our new hit series Kid Nation."That's right. The millions of viewers who "don't care anymore" about the baseball playoffs will be thoroughly entertained trying to guess who will earn the coveted Gold Star and get to call home to mommy from a ghost town somewhere in New Mexico. The fact that the show is based in the desert southwest allows CBS an even greater advantage, as it can steal some of the "regi...

I know I am a little late on this review, but it needs to be said. This is probably one of the worst reality show ideas ever. I don’t know about you, but watching children on television is limited for me, kids self-governing themselves...well...umm...no. Sounds like someone found a way to finally make C-Span look interesting. Anyone that watches Kid Nation should pick a random television
Kid Nation Episode Two - Chicken Wars
2007-10-03 10:44:00
I posted last week about Kid Nation (new CBS reality show featuring kids without adult supervision developing a town from scratch in the "old west").  I think there are organizational dynamics from the show that can be applied to the "grown up" endeavors we face everyday in our work environments.  From a motivation an influence perspective I think there is some real "gold in them thare hills."  The core themes in this past week's episode were:  to kill a chicken or not, ingenuity with a water pump, whether beauty queens should do dishes and would Greg get the gold star.  I have three lessons from the show but first I have a general opinion on the show itself. Which came first... the chicken or the Greg? The main hubbub of this episode was whether the kids should kill a chicken for food.  Talk about a ratings grabber - "See kids kill their own dinner!"  I really think this tainted the rest of the series...

Kid Nation - or - What I Learned at Summer Camp
2007-09-27 11:06:00
Kid Nation - a  new Wednesday night CBS reality series about 40 kids ages 8 to 14 set in an abandoned old west town and their efforts to build a society free from adult influence has raised some eyebrows. I'm posting on the Thursday after the second episode but this post is about the first episode. Articles and points of view abound....LA Weekly Already, editorials condemning CBS have appeared in The Baltimore Sun, New York Daily News and The Boston Globe, which urged viewers to boycott the show and ??????reestablish the line between entertainment and exploitation.?????? This Blog Sits at the Intersection of Anthropology and Economics This is a measure of the desperation and panic induced in the old media by the new.  Sending children into the brink.  I mean, really.  Even for a network executive, this is low. Kid Nation: New TV Reality Show Good or Bad?
2007-09-21 06:02:00
Did anyone catch kid nation last night? What did you think of it? I've heard a lot of different opinions on this by kids, parents, grandparents and anyone else you can think of. This seems to bring up some serious opinions. Strong feelings on this subject. Were some of the kids to young? Was this just a way to exploit and make money off of kids? Did those kids learn something of value and will this be something that helps define who they are? Would you have let your child be involved in this? Were the parents lied to? I want to watch a few more episodes before I say anything about how I feel about it, but feel free to state any opinions you may have.
KID NATION: Let It Out Y’all
2007-09-20 15:41:00
After a summer filled with internal investigations, angry parents and media outcry there was no way this TV Addict was missing last night’s series premiere of KID NATION. Yet as I watched the extended [practically commercial free] premiere I couldn’t help but speculate — brilliantly executed reality television or the end of the genre as we know it? But first, a few words about the forty settlers. These kids were awesome. Knowing full well how I adapted to being shipped off to summer camp at age seven, I could only imagine what it must have been like to spend forty days in a practically deserted ghost town with no parental supervision. Although the Grocery Candy store and Soda Shoppe would have made things a touch easier. Overall the show was utterly fascinating to watch because kids — unlike adult contestants who ‘play the game’ on SURVIVOR — gave us genuine emotional responses. Like when Laurel consoled little Jimmy or when Taylor decided to stay [so ...
Kid Nation!
2007-09-20 13:46:00
A Kid version of Survivor or not? Check out the new show on CBS Wednesday evenings called Kid Nation, I’m not sure what to think of this show! On one hand as a father of three I am thinking, these kids are being made to grow up way to quick. Then on the other hand as a children’s pastor I am saying the extra responsibility factor will be good for them. So I will have to see how this show play’s out. I am not so convinced that this show will be a good influence on kids, maybe or maybe not? I do know that a lot of kids and families are watching, so we shall see will this group of 40 kids of all ages and backgrounds come together and make Kid Nation work or not? Will this show have a positive or negative effect on the kids and families of our time? Check it out for yourself on their website: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/ki-d_nation/ read more | digg story
Kid Nation Debuts on CBS

Ok, so I like to watch baseball, and exploitive reality TV. I also enjoy putting eybrows on my dog and eating mac and cheese. So tonight was the big debut of Kid Nation. I tuned in just like many others did I’m sure. With all the hype who’s curiosity wouldn’t be peaked? It was kind of what I expected to see. Obviously if you put a bunch of kids together and leave them in charge with no adult supervision ...

Kid Nation
2007-09-19 18:33:00
Tonight CBS will air the season premiere of its controversial new series, Kid Nation. The show has been condemned on both moral and legal grounds. Critics contend that parents and CBS have not acted in the interests of the participants, subjecting the children to dangerous neglect. Defenders of Kid Nation point to its real world commentary and pragmatic educational value. Is this new reality show a sign of larger social decay, or just an overreaction?
Parents mad over Kid Nation
2007-09-19 14:02:00
A new reality TV series is causing an uproar and CBS, the network that will air it, is blowing off TV critics. They declined to send them advance copies of its controversial new reality series "Kid Nation," but screened the episode for hundreds of children in some of the country's biggest TV markets. Reporters from local TV stations, all owned by CBS, then interviewed the kids to promote tonight's series debut on their evening newscasts. Critics have been howling since mid-July about the show, in which the producers found parents willing to take their precocious overachieving moppets, ages 8 to 15, out of school for 40 days to forge their own "society" in a New Mexico movie-set town. Producers may have thwarted child labor laws by calling the production a sort of summer-camp-with-cameras, shooting up to 14 hours a day without the kids' parents present. Reports that four children had accidentally drunk bleach from an unmarked soda bottle didn't sit well with them either, thou...

Kid Nation: Irresponsible Charges of Irresponsible Conduct
2007-09-05 18:16:00
There have been many, many commentators quick to criticize the new CBS “reality show” Kid Nation; while much of their criticism is unfounded even more borders on the ridiculous. General criticism’s have been based on CBS’s promo: “Forty kids with no parents, no teachers . . . anywhere.” This has led to charges ranging from “irresponsible” to “child abuse” to “slavery” and those charges were (and are) based on nothing more than the mental picture of 40 kids running around unsupervised ala “Lord of the Flies.” What nonsense! How does anyone in their right mind imagine that a major television network would EVER allow that? Of course they wouldn’t and didn’t! There were no parents or teachers, that’s true but there were medical professionals constantly on the scene and a production crew that was continually on the watch for any situation that would lead to allegations of abuse or a laws...
KID NATION: Watch Before You Judge
2007-08-28 21:58:00
Is anyone else getting tired of all the negative publicity surrounding KID NATION? Because this TV Addict certainly is. With Mandy Patinkin leaving the building and everything quiet on the GREY’S ANATOMY front, KID NATION has simply become the punching bag du jour for the media to take shots at. Allegations of child abuse! Calls for the show’s cancellation! Internal investigations! The media scrutiny’s become so loud you’d think Janet Jackson had another wardrobe malfunction. Here’s an idea for everyone who’s horrified that CBS would take ‘advantage’ of these poor kids — how about you actually watch the show before you call for its cancellation (yes, I’m talking to you Deadline Hollywood). Have I seen the show? No. But if I were to judge the show based on the extended preview CBS sent me, I’d say that KID NATION looks to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for a lucky group of kids. One that’s unfortunately about t...
