Blatant display of power wastage on Kota Kinabalu streetlights
2008-04-14 04:00:00
The following pictures were taken on 6th April 2008 (Sunday) about 10.50am. I was driving towards Lido from Inanam on the bypass. I had just passed by City Mall when I noticed that alternate streetlights still had their lights on. I waited until I reached the Bukit Padang-Luyang intersection before taking the following pictures. In case ...

View of Kota Kinabalu city from possibly the tallest building downtown
2008-02-16 01:47:00
On 15th February, I attended a function on the top (13th) floor of Wisma Bandaraya, which is located in downtown Kota Kinabalu. The building previously housed the Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri which has since moved to its own building in Karamunsing. It is probably the tallest building at the city centre, and I was pleasantly surprised to ...
The first woman to scale Mount Kinabalu
2008-02-08 01:22:00
Lilian Suzette Gibbs (10th September 1870 - 30th January 1925), an English botanist was the one. She’s definitely one of the most adventurous women of her time. She organised botanical expeditions to far-flung places. These days it might be easy, but during the early days of the 20th century, they are no mean feats. Graduating from the ...

View from Kinabalu Rose Cabin, which is on a hillock about 3km on the right side of the road, after the Kinabalu Park turnoff. This place is just before Kundasang town. Pics taken around 6pm sometime last year. It only lasted a precious few minutes. After that you could not see the mountain at all. bigger image ...
My Discoveries : Mount Kinabalu Ascent
2008-01-12 18:11:00
My Discoveries : Mount Kinabalu AscentBeth, an adventurous young American traveller finds out that climbing one of South East Asia’s highest mountains is a challenging but rewarding experience. In the process she discovers muscles she didn’t know existed in her body and obtains a certificate for climbing to the summit of Mount Kinabalu in the East Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo. She learns from her local Kadazan guide that the mountain is one of the most important homes for plants and animals with some flora being only found here in the park and nowhere else on the planet. This helps her understand why UNESCO has classified Kinabalu National Park as a World Heritage Site.At the end of my descent from the 4,101metre high Mount Kinabalu I could barely stand and my legs felt like jelly but that doesn’t mean that every step of the climb up Mount Kinabalu wasn’t worth it. Upon reflection and a soothing and relaxing rest in the heated pools of the nearby Poring H...

A review: Dewa 19, live in Kota Kinabalu, 15th December 2007
2007-12-16 15:53:00
When a concert advertisement says that it will start at a certain time, always add at least an hour to it. In the case of Dewa 19’s Kota Kinabalu stop, the poster said 7pm, but support act Jinbara made their appearance at 8.37pm. That’s a full 90 minutes overdue! I heard some fans had been ...
Dewa 19 will have a meet-the-fan session at Centre Point, Kota Kinabalu, 15
2007-12-14 15:33:00
I attended Dewa 19’s press conference at Meeting Room 5, Magellan Sutera just now. I heard that their flight was delayed due to bad weather in KL(?), and that they only touched down at KKIA 6.20+pm. They made their entrance at the said meeting room at almost 7pm. The VIP present included Datuk Masidi Manjun, ...
Dewa 19 will arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport tomorrow (14th D
2007-12-13 13:33:00
Thank you little bird. So you know what to do. Perhaps it’s the only chance to get close to Ahmad Dhani, Once and the gang. For their first Malaysian tour, top Indonesian (Surabaya) rock band Dewa 19 (was known as simply “Dewa” between 2000 and 2004) chose of all places, Stadium Likas, Kota Kinabalu. Then it’s 3 different cities every day, then a 4-day break before the final concert at Stadium Negara. Supporting acts: Dewi Dewi (Indon all-girl group), Jinbara, Ella: perhaps in that order of appearance. That would mean Dewa 19 will only take to the stage after 9pm?! Leader, keyboardist and songwriter of the band: Ahmad Dhani Prasetyo, 35. Apparently a huge Queen fan:

Another hill around Kota Kinabalu is next to Kg Kopungit, next to the new Penampang highway. Most afternoons you will be able to see cars parked on the side of the road next to the hill. Most likely they belong to hill climbers: Somewhere along the road there will be a way to climb up the path, ...

It is located at Taman Tun Fuad Stephens, Bukit Padang. The tagline is “Sabah’s Premier Water Theme Park.” Don’t expect anything like Sunway Lagoon though. Recommended to go on weekdays - costs only RM5 per person, as opposed to RM15 per person on weekends. Those below 3 feet tall are entitled to free admission. Err… I thought ...

Sexist arcade game at Wawasan Plaza, Kota Kinabalu?
2007-09-26 02:36:00
On the 2nd floor of Wawasan Plaza, Kota Kinabalu is an amusement centre containing quite a few arcade games. One of them is, at first glance, a harmless-looking sniper game from Konami entitled Silent Scope. But looking closer on the right panel, one can see the following: Yes, it’s just a game, but it might give wrong ideas ...
Pictures of Melinsung Summer Bay Resort, Kota Kinabalu - Papar highway

We had a church event at Melinsung Summer Bay Resort end of August till early September. For accomodation, most of us stayed at the 3-room apartments. From the outside, they look like the following: Near the apartments, and probably the most unique feature about this place, is a stationary ship called the Summer Bay Cruise. Reminds one ...

Gathering of bloggers in Kota Kinabalu, 6th July 2007
2007-07-08 00:00:00
A big thanks to Jacq and Daniel for taking the trouble to organise what could very well be the biggest ever gathering of (mostly) Sabahan bloggers in Kota Kinabalu. I think it would never be easy to get people who’ve never met IRL to shake off the “social stiffness” in a few hours. Add to that ...
I'm off to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah!
2007-07-04 19:26:00
Yup!!! Off I go again! All this flying around in aeroplanes is kinda making me feel all tired! I'm not complaining or anything. I know there's a lot of people out there that hasn't been on an aeroplane at all but.. sigh.. just thinking about packing, going to the airport, waiting to board the plane, siting down in the small tineey winney seat, feeling the air pressure blowing your ears out, and waiting for the plane to land..Well.. kinda turns me off flying!!! >.I'm sorry if I sounded like an unappreciative b*tch but.. boohoo..If you're wondering though.. I'm going there because my cousin is getting married soon! Yup! And it's gonna be a huge elaborate affair. With church wedding and all. Haven't been to a church wedding though. Should be super romantic! Can't wait. And all my favourite KK food!!! Ooooh.. My last time though. =(On another note, today is the 5th of July. That just gives me another 24 days in Malaysia. Then I'll be off to the States to start a whole new chapt...

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - 13th May - 16th May - PT II
2007-04-23 06:53:00
Lets continue on the KK trip. My Hutan Melintang trip a month back, I was under-gunned. So when I was doing a pre-packed a week before the trip, I told myself 'I'm so gonna OVER-PACK!!'. So it turned out, I was so OVER-gunned. I brought 4 rods (V Fox PE 6-8, Xzoga PE 5-6, G Craft Short Rodder PE 6, JigZam PE 5) and 5 reels (Accurate Boss Magnum 665-80lbs, Daiwa Dogfight-80lbs, Daiwa Saltist 40-50lbs, Avet SX-40lbs, Shimano Navi 8000-40lbs). Once we were on board, I set up my Accurate with my Xzoga, DogFight with V Fox, Avet with Short Rodder, and left the Jigzam and Navi in the bag. And I think after half a day of jiggin, the Accurate, DogFight, Avet, Xzoga, V Fox, all went back into the bag. Jigzam and Navi became the main arsenal throughout for jigging 100-200grams of jigs. And the G Craft Short Rodder was paired with the Saltist for bottom fishing. As usual, there's always a 'Gaya Centre' on boat. This was the catch on our first spot. The moment i saw the boatman reeling up...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - 13th May - 16th May - PT I
2007-04-20 05:12:00
Its been so long since my last posting. Its been even longer since I last have a GOOD fishing trip... So miss Crystal Coral... Anyway, just placed a verbal booking for Sea Maiden I for next year April to Spratly. So at least something to look forward to for the rest of the year :-pThis KK trip was a 'blind' trip. We didn't really know what we are getting ourselves into. We thought it was a private boat but of course we were wrong. We thought it was a pure jigging trip, but of course, we were wrong again. We thought we will have a date with Amberjack, well we didn't. So needless to say, it was yet another disappointing trip.Air Asia again... This is where we spent our first nite. The rest was on the boat.BIG FISH!!!! :-(The boat is very spacious. And it's even more spacious when there's only 7 of us jigging around. And it became even more spacious when most didn't do much jigging as most of their confidence were crushed when the boatmen and deckhands repeatedly said 'We do bo...
Mount Kinabalu
2007-04-09 19:26:00
Any Malaysian would tell you that a trip to Sabah wouldn’t be complete if you didn’t swing by Mount Kinabalu. Only about 90km from the capital city of Kota Kinabalu, it is an awesome sight, the highest mountain in all of South-East Asia. The mountain is 4093 meters high, and scientists say, it is still growing, at about 5mm every year. A miniscule amount, you may say, but give it a few hundred
