A ton of people have covered it recently, so here's a best-of post to brief you on the highlights.I know this is my second post in a row to feature both Daniel Merriweather and Mark Ronson, but oh well. It's a damn good cover. I actually have no idea where this came from, all I know is that it showed up on iMeem somehow. Their version is a little more understated, a little more soulful, and of course, includes Ronson's signature trumpets. Next up is Kaiser Chiefs, who bring the expected acoustic-indie dynamic to the song when they covered it on Radio One.Finally, we got Stephanie Kennedy, an indie-acoustic performer from the UK, we slows the song down to give it a down-tempo-jazz feel that works better than expected.

Fans of the old rave, initially, will be forgiven for not knowing what all the fuss is about–beyond a dramatically punked-up cover of “Not Over Yet” by ’90s chart star Grace, the Klaxons owe precious little to the synthetic rush of UK clubland past or present. Persist, though, because once beyond this realisation, it’s possible to appreciate this band on their own merits. “Isle of Her” and “From Atlantis to Interzone” come on like brooding US punks Liars, all thrumming, distorted bassline and a vocal delivery that veers between desolate and manic (although the latter’s whirling air-raid siren is very much the Klaxons’ own addition), while on the other side of the coin, “Golden Skans” betrays an impressive ability for anthemic, harmony-lad...

2007-06-17 20:30:00 Father's Day this year brings the new Klaxons album ("Myths of the Near Future"), a box of chocs and a mouse mat - I was well chuffed. The Klaxons album is great - I'm not so clear on the "New Rave" tag (it doesn't sound like the early Rave music I'm familiar with, but that's no great shakes, there was a lot of variation - the covers of Rave songs are an obvious starting point and the connections to clubbing and DJing are fair enough) - the music is "sick" (to quote Joey, 7) and I think the literary references are ace too. Name checking the works of at least two of my favourite writers (Thomas Pynchon and Willian S. Burroughs II) always helps, with a name derived from a quotation in the "Futurist Manifesto" all works for me - it's not exactly subtle, but at least it's accessible.
