Despite our best intentions, sometimes things fall to the wayside because there's just too much effort that needs to go into getting started.

The Truth About Teaching English in Foreign Countries #4: The Knitting Circ
2009-01-08 16:13:00
When I first entered this field, I wish somebody would have warned me about the various lions dens I would be entering. Of course, I was naive not to consider the politics of a foreign education system. Many people begin teaching in schools where they forget about how long their coworkers may have been teaching there. ...
Book Review: ?New Ideas for Today?s Knitting? by Jean Leinhauser and Rita W

According to the authors in the introduction: “Today’s Knitter is looking for glamorous ? even daring ? projects, and that is what we asked our designers to create for us. These edgy designs use the same knit and purl stitches we’ve always used, but oh what a different look these designers have achieved.” They go on ...
Why Knitting Is A Productive Hobby
2008-06-08 00:00:00
Knitting is a very constructive hobby. The funny thing about this craft is that it is not very popular among the youth of today. Why is this, you might ask. Well, I really do not know the answer to that question. However, I can give some reasons why knitting would ...
Save Money By Knitting Your Swifter Refill
2008-06-06 08:40:00
Like most people nowadays, I try to save money where I can and I am a big fan of Swifter type mops. But the refills are very expensive, so apart from devising our own cheaper cleaning solution I think this knit mop refill pattern over at The Fickle Knitter will be perfect! Those refills are not cheap either. The bumps in the st15 Zoom(s)

Long weekend with nothing on the needles
2008-05-24 01:32:00
The good news is that last night I cast off and delivered Adorable’s Nereid mitts (a fingerless glove adaptation of Cookie A.’s Pomatomus socks) and she seems to love them. The bad news, for me at least, is that I’m now facing the whole Memorial Day long weekend with no knitting project at all. Here ...

Super Secret Knitting
2008-05-14 06:38:00
You may have noticed that knitting has not made an appearance too often on my blog and even less of an appearance on Ravelry I am Sinknitty if you want to check me out. There are knitters on Ravelry that crank stuff out so fast I think they must have some kind of sleeping problem or extremely well behaved children.Well yours truly is knitting up a test pattern for a well known and one of her favorite yarn companies South West Trading Company. When the project is all done and in the owner's hands I will ask if I can put pictures up until then it's off to knit and watch some boob tube, perhaps I will watch The Stand. I like that movie. The Hubby is out making us some money by taking all of his friends money in a poker game tonight. Good thing too I'll need the extra cash to spoil my Hogwarts Sock Swap Kit 5 partner. As we all know I tend to go a little overboard.Speaking of swaps the recipient of my last swap loved her socks and all the other stuff I packed in there from the Hogwart...

Warm Up Your Knitting Needles
2008-05-09 18:01:00
A new retro knitting book has just been published. Retro Knits: Cool Vintage Patterns for Men, Women, and Children from the 1900s through the 1970s edited by Kari Cornell and Jean Lampe features...well, cool vintage patterns for men, women, and children from the 1900s through the 1970s. There's over 50 patterns collected here, along with vintage photographs of the designs. The book is selling for $16.47 on Amazon. Judging from the cover, I'm guessing the styles in here lean towards classic and timeless rather than knitting while eating grandma's green brownies.

Knitting around your laptop?s power cable: why not?

Summer reading
2008-04-15 03:55:00
I always loved reading as a kid, but I dreaded the summer reading assignments. Somehow it always made reading feel like homework instead of fun. It wasn’t until the year that a teacher introduced “free reading” time into the classroom that reading started to be fun all the time. As I’ve gotten ...

Cotton Yarns for Knitting and Crochet
2008-04-09 06:01:00
Our order for 20 grab bag cotton yarns for knitting and crochet from Peaches and Cremecame yesterday. It was like Christmas in April!Below is pictured just one of the grab bags. The cost for each grab bag was only $2.19 and with postage was approximately $3.00. We figured each item (including postage) cost about 50 cents. Everything looks very nice to work with. We are planning to use this yarn for making eco-friendly market bags to sell at craft shows. We are also planning to use these yarns, along with Lily Elite Cotton yarn, pattern, and crochet hook to make up "Make your own Market Bag Kits." We plan to sell them on our website, Crochet Collection, and at craft shows. I did a little research earlier on themed gift baskets (which are very popular) and plan to put several of those together this year! This is our first big effort using cotton yarn for knitting and crochet. Usually we use acrylic yarn, or 100% wool yarn, so it is a nice change.

Baby Knitting
2008-03-25 21:19:00
So my sister has had her baby and we finally know it's a Girl! yay! So I immediately knitted her up a few girly things and she is only a couple weeks old. Of course before she was born I knitted her a nice gender neutral Big Bad Baby blankie from Stitch and Bitch. I used blue sky alpacas organic cotton in the color sand. Next I used the  left overs to knit the baby bolero from  the book One Skein for her. This was a fun project because I learned and  practiced some new skills. My first set in sleeves ever! Practiced and I think perfected the mattress stitch. And now I feel ready to tackle a bigger sweater. It all wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Of course all babies must get the One Peice Kimono from Mason Dixon Knitting.=And a matching hatI also made the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road booties with the same yarn but they fall off right now because her ankles are a lot smaller than the pattern has you make them. So I improved on them for some shoes to match h...

Cotton Yarns for Knitting and Crochet
2008-03-24 02:32:00
Cotton Yarn StoreSpring is just around the corner, and it's time to start putting your wool sweaters and yarn back in the closet and switching to great cotton yarns for knitting and crochet projects! Cotton is also a great choice for those who are allergic to woolens. I know I love to use cotton yarns for knitting and crochet, the feel of the yarn is nice and crisp, smooth, and cool. Cotton yarns are also a good choice when you're looking for things you're going to use in the kitchen. Dish towels always seem to last longer when you are using cotton yarn! Acrylic yarn always starts to pill up after you've washed it several times. And any lint, especially if you're washing new towels, starts sticking to your yarn, making extra work for you to pick it off.Overall, I think using cotton yarns for knitting and crochet projects is a great choice! You can add some yarn to your stash by looking through my Cotton Yarn Store!I've got many great cotton yarns for all of your upcoming knit...

Another Kind of Knitting
2008-02-13 21:30:00
?This is an emergency,? she said. ?You have to come right now.?I ran to my car and backed down the driveway but I live on a busy street and the traffic was relentless.Panic rose in my chest and I screamed at my car windows. When I finally reached the school, The Mayor was sitting in his teachers lap sobbing.?He was running on the playground,? she told me. ?He fell and his friend fell on top of him. His arm is hurt, but I can?t see it through his shirt and he won?t let anyone touch it.?My panic, visibly increasing, led another teacher to take me by the arm and, in her most serious and stern voice, say, ?You need to stay calm.?I took a deep breath and righted myself. The teachers helped me get The Mayor into the car and I headed for the emergency room.Every time the car went over a bump or I slowed down for a traffic light he wailed in agony.?Please, Mama! Please make it stop hurting!?I had to self-park in the ER parking deck (WTF?!!) and carry him to the elevator. He sobbed and sobbe...

2008-02-07 11:51:00
Book DescriptionThe only knitting book focused on lingerie and lingerie-inspired designsUnderwear has come out. Once kept demurely concealed, lingerie now pervades every fashion category, inspiring designs for day looks, loungewear, evening clothes, and accessories. Slips have become dresses unto themselves. Bra straps are meant to peek out from under tank tops. Camisoles are worn on their own or as layers over or under other clothes. Now, with Knitting Lingerie Style, designer Joan McGowan-Michael interprets this undeniable fashion trend for the knitter and, along the way, shares fascinating stories about lingerie history. Did you know that it was airplane magnate Howard Hughes who masterminded the underwire bra?McGowan-Michael?s 30-plus designs, stunningly photographed by Thayer Allyson Gowdy, range from the truly functional?knitted bras, slips, corsets, camisoles, and stockings?to the purely fun. The brassiere inspires a curvature-enhancing twinset. The baby doll negligee is the ...
