2008-03-28 16:19:00
Just got back from the PADI Members Forum Koh Samui 2008Held at the Centara Beach Resort at Chaweng, presented by the Regional Manager for Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar; Hans Ullrich.Koh Samui's was one of the last ones in line for Thailand but nonetheless, it was an interesting one.Hans showed videos from some winners of last year's 'Go Pro Challenge' with the announcement that the Challenge has been extended to this year, 2008 and that the winner receives a 10.000,-USD price in cash!We than went on for a questions/answer quiz which had some trick questions in it and gave some good attention to the E-Learning program that PADI has in place.Last but not least we looked into some Risk Management scenarios which had a Rescue scenario in it. I an highly recommend visiting a PADI Risk Seminar if you get the chance. All in all an interesting evening which I can highly recommend to visit when your PADI Regional Manager comes to your town!If you can't make it in person, PADI ...
Australian tourist raped on Koh Samui
2008-03-28 08:48:00
I can only find one news story covering this. It looks like they are trying to keep it quiet. On Wednesday, an Australian tourist was raped at a resort on Koh Samui. Today, according to the Bangkok Post, ?Somchai Duanglai, 26, a native of Sakon Nakhon, was arrested at a rented house near Samui airport.? The 20-year-old ...

Red Snapper Bar & Grill
2008-01-10 15:36:00
Wow! This place is absolutely stunning. It has style, it has charm. And it’s got the best location in town. The food’s excellent too. And they’re just some of the attractions of Red Snapper Bar & Grill. Set along a 50-metre road frontage, next door to Chaweng Regent Beach Resort in the heart of Chaweng is one of Samui’s most extraordinary restaurants. And the reasons why it’s so special become apparent immediately. One reason is the many choices of where to sit. Maybe along the 20-seater exterior terrace that’s shielded from the pavement by a long line of bullrushes? They’re growing from pots immersed in an aquaduct, which spans the entire frontage (you can still see the passersby clearly, but they can’t see you, unless they stop and stare). Or perhaps in the 60-seater air-conditioned restaurant itself with its clean, modern lines and various water-features, including a unique pebbly waterfall that cascades down the side of ...

KOH SAMUI - Thailand
2008-01-08 04:59:00
A couple of decades ago, Thailand's third-largest offshore island woke up and found itself famous. Briefly forming part of the 16th-century maritime trade network established by the Chinese Ming-Dynasty admiral Cheng Ho, Koh Samui had subsequently disappeared from the world map and slumbered in peaceful obscurity until modern times. The local fishermen even routed the Japanese forces who tried to capture the island during World War II. But then the waves of world-travelling flower children padded down the hight-flying trail through Kathmandu, Goa and Bali. Arriving here, they bedded down in thatched huts beneath the palm tress and wandered the beaches in sarongs, silver anklets and in search of self-identification. Until the recent completion of the flowerbed airstrip, however, the time consuming overland trek via Surat Thani and the two hour sea crossing from Ban Don or Don Sak deterred all but these hardy back packers. Now the Bangkok connection has been established, and the wild ...

Betelnut Restaurant in Samui
2007-12-15 05:37:00
Betelnut recently relocated, adding more space for booth seating. Comfortable and quiet locale with original prints on the walls. FOOD Owner/chef Jeffrey Lord is well lauded by fellow chefs and local clientele for his originality and focus on great taste combinations. His fusion food combines Californian and Asian flavours¡ with mixes of texture, tastes and zestiness. He personally selects all ingredients and supervises the creation of each dish. Starters include bitesize morsels of sesame-crusted salmon katsu served with a dollop of wasabi and delicate swirls of daikon radish; summer roll loaded with prawns, scallops and slivers of veg in a sesame sauce; and smoked pork in a light garlic, potato and apple curry. Portions are ample. For mains, choose from an array of meats, fish and seafood. Roast snow fish is delicate and flaky, served with crispy rice and green chilli/black bean sauce. Fig chutney and crispy potato tortellini complement roast salmon, and Argentine beef fi...

Koh Samui Thai Restaurant Review
2007-12-02 09:28:00
130 Erskine Street,Middle Park VicPhone: 03 9696 3080FoodThai food. No banquets or set menus unfortunately. There were some nice flavours in the tradtional thai dishes. I didn't try as many of the dishes as I often would because the price was a bit more expensive.ServiceAverage service. Never hugely busy, but not overly attentive.ValueAs expected in the Middle Park village, Albert Park area, restaurants tend to be pricier as the areas are somewhat upmarket. Would be ok if the food and service was sensational, but nothing special there.Decor and AtmosphereNice quiet atmosphere. There are 3 sections of this restaurant with two entrances, meaning the restaurant is much bigger than it first appears. In fact I have been there twice each time thinking the different entrance was a different restaurant ! The front section is small and quiet in a beautiful plane tree lined heritage street. Going down a narrow corridor leads you to a larger back section, which is more spacious. Ther...

Thailand Koh Samui Villas
2007-11-05 16:01:00
When you are vacationing on Koh Samui, you'll be enjoying the beaches, the waterfalls and the active nightlife, you'll still need a place to stay, and some of the best places to stay on Thailand's third largest island are the rented villas! The villas of Koh Samui are inexpensive and they can provide you with a degree of privacy that's hard to get in some of the larger resorts. When you stay on one of Koh Samui's beautiful villas, you get a real idea of what it's like to live on this island paradise. When you are planning out your vacation accommodations, you might automatically dismiss the villas as being to expensive. Depending on your situation though, they could be exactly the right choice for you! For instance, if you are planning to stay for longer than two weeks, or even a week and half, the rates of the villa suddenly become a lot more manageable. In the long term, they are cheaper than staying at the resorts, and much more comfortable as well. While you might feel un...

If you're looking for a vacation spot with a little bit of everything, Koh Samui should be your port of call! This Thai island lies off the east of the Kra Isthmus and as Thailand's third largest island, it has enough to do to entertain even the most discerning tourist. With plenty of beach-front resorts that will have you living just meters away from the water, let this island show you some of the best of what Thailand has to offer. If you re a nature lover, be sure to take advantage of the many day trips into mountainous jungle interior of the island. Keep an eye out for the waterfalls, especially for Na Muang and Na Muang II. Learning Thai Massage in Koh Samui
2007-09-24 12:13:00
By : Alister BredeeMarloas is nineteen years old and she comes from Rotterdam in Holland. She is in gap year from school and has taken the time to travel in Asia. She has been on the road for four months and as the trip winds to a close she has come to the Health Oasis Resort in Koh Samui to learn Thai massage. ?This is one of the best things I did on my trip,? she enthuses. ?While I was traveling I had massages. It felt so nice that I decided I would like to learn how to do it!??It?s just for fun. I have learned it for myself and to help my friends and family.?No, she does not want to become a massage therapist. Her goal is to train as a medical doctor, and this preparation in massage could well help her in her aspiration to study western medicine. Her twenty-hour course stretched over a leisurely five and a half days. So she has plenty of time for rest and relaxation in the swimming pool and on the beach beside. She laughs when she says, ?I enjoyed the rest!? ?I also really lik...
