Position analysis: Wide receivers
2007-08-21 00:05:00 Our position by position analysis continues today with a look at the wide receivers on the Green Bay Packers roster. This is the fourth in our nine part series in the run up to cutdowns after the third preseason game. And without further adieu ...Donald Driver - The Pro Bowl receiver may just return to the Pro Bowl once again. He's Brett Favre's favorite receiver. Just watch. In Saturday's preseason game, the Favre's first couple passes went in the direction of Driver. Unfortunately, opposing defenses also know that. A majority of those passes went incomplete. It wasn't until Favre found Bubba Franks and James Jones that the offense really started getting revved up.Greg Jennings - So Greg Jennings is upset with his role in the offense? He shouldn't be. Driver isn't a spring chicken anymore, and someone will start to get those receptions that Driver used to get. Obviously if you're the No. 2 receiver you're not going to get as many receptions as the No. 1. But as long as Jen...
Return game up for grabs
2007-08-13 15:53:00 There's potential among the candidates for the return jobs for the Green Bay Packers. But after one preseason game there is room for improvement as well. Will Blackmon flashed some elusiveness on punt returns, but getting negative yardage is simply not an option."Blackmon broke four tackles on one return that went for minus-4," reports Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Then he broke three more tackles on a 45-yard runback that was shortened to no gain by a penalty. He also made a fair catch, then failed to make a fair catch on a 37-yard punt that rolled another 10 yards."If Blackmon can gain some consistency, he may be the best return man of all. A single four yard loss during the regular season, though, may have relegated Blackmon to the bench.David Clowney, meanwhile, had the best kick return on the team Saturday night. Yet if not for slipping, he could have done even better."Blackmon, Bodiford and rookie David Clowney each took back one kickoff," writes McGinn. "Clow...
Keeping the players informed
2007-08-10 14:53:00 This past Wednesday may have been an off day for practice for the Green Bay Packers, but that doesn't mean they weren't learning."On their day off from practice on Wednesday, Green Bay Packers players learned about Wisconsin law regarding domestic violence, drugs and alcohol," reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.Green Bay has done better than most NFL teams at staying out of trouble, but it's good for the reminder. Some of the most recent run-ins with the law that come to mind are Nick Barnett's night club scuffle, the departed Ahman Green's domestic abuse charges, and Koren Robinson's fleeing of the police to name a few.The Packers may not be perfect, but they're a little better off than some teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins who have bigger problems on their hands."You know what's right and wrong, but it's always good to hear," Daniel Muir told the Green Bay Press-Gazette about the experience. "They tell us how exactly...
Robinson finishes up jail sentence
2007-07-27 15:28:00 Green Bay Packers receiver Koren Robinson has been transferred to a jail in Minnesota, but it is merely to complete his sentence."Former Vikings receiver Koren Robinson is in a Nicollet County jail to serve the last 11 days of a 90-day concurrent sentence for two drunken driving cases, not because of any new charges, and is on pace to be reinstated by the NFL this season, according to his attorney," reports Sean Jensen of the Pioneer Press. This is the third jail in the third different state for Robinson."He served some of his jail time in Green Bay, where he played four games for the Packers last season, and some in North Carolina, where he keeps a permanent residence," writes Jensen. "But Tamburino said those jails only allow out-of-towners to serve if there is room. While finishing out his 90 days in North Carolina, Robinson was essentially released because that jail couldn't accommodate him anymore."So has Robinson learned his lesson?"My prediction is, the only place you're goi...
Robinson can rejoin team in mid-September
2007-07-26 16:47:00 The Green Bay Packers won't have to wait long into the regular season for wide receiver Koren Robinson to join them. He is eligible to apply for reinstatement on Sept. 18.Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal reports, "Robinson played in four games for the Packers before his suspension went into effect on Oct. 17, when his appeal was denied. Nevertheless, Sept. 18 is when he can apply for reinstatement because that is one year from the date the league determined that Robinson violated the policy."The unfortunate part is that the Packers will have to cut a player in order to make room for Robinson once he joins the team.

Koren Robinson will be in court soon
2006-09-14 21:57:03 New Green Bay Packers wide receiver and kick returner Koren "Robinson is due in court in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland, Wash., on Oct. 4, according to Kirkland Municipal Court supervisor Aimee Vance," writes the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel . In addition, "On Oct. 17, he will have to appear in Nicollet Co. (Minn.) court on six criminal counts, including a felony for fleeing police and two misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree driving while impaired related to his arrest Aug. 15 in Mankato, Minn." This is a lot on his plate! It remains to be seen how or if this will impact the Packers.
Koren Robinson Cut By Vikings
2006-08-27 15:21:01 Vikes’ wide receiver Koren Robinson has been, rather unsurprisingly, cut from The Vikings side following his arrest almost two weeks ago for speeding, drunk driving and evading the police. Robinson had been arrested after being clocked breaking 100mph in a 55mph zone and subsequently failed to stop for police when requested to do so. He picked up almost 350 yards receiving last season play for the Vikings, having spent the previous four with Seattle, but made his mark with over 1200 yards on kick returns - going to the Pro Bowl as kick returner before signing a $12m contract extension in the post season. No doubt he will be picked up somewhere before the season commences, or at least before the deadline as he should be allowed to build on a good season last year. Solid kick returner, decent with his hands but certainly carries a little bit of personal baggage that needs working on. |
