2007-09-14 22:18:00 While writing some posts, Bloggers publishing window decided to start offering free German lessons. I now know that View Blog is Blog anziegen in German.The only German I learned in my yoof was useful war vocabulary such as Achtung, Hande Hoche and Donner und Blitzen from Victor and Eagle comics. Only the clever kids learned German, with the uber geeks also getting a bit of Latin. My only experience of Latin was having Mr Cleland the Latin teacher as my home room teacher. We used to go there every day for 10 minutes first thing in the morning and I never learned a single word of Latin. Probably because there were no comics dealing with the Romans and the fact that we managed to keep them out of Scotland, leaving no cultural record worth noting.I am however immensely grateful that I now know two more useless German phrases. Sauerkraut Soup
2006-05-24 06:36:00 Ingredients 4 quarts sauerkraut 1 Otto’s ham hock 4 large potatoes 2 cups diced ham water to cover 2 tablespoons paprika Instructions Put ham hock and sauerkraut in Dutch oven or heavy soup pot. Cook on medium high for 2 to 3 hours. Add enough water during cooking to keep moist so sauerkraut does not burn. Dice the potatoes and add to pot. Add enough water to cover ingredients. Cook until potatoes are tender. Add ham. Take ham hock out to cool before dicing, then return back to soup. Add paprika and serve.
