No timer,and a bit more work grinding and tamping than a standard drip machine. But the unique pressurize brewing results in coffee that is different, and better than I have seen out of any other electric machine. I would describe it as complex and dense but not bitter. It was a 70 year old white man yielding a cane vs. a young black man using an 8 foot 2x4 as his weapon.
