Top Chef: Lisa Wants Kudos
2008-06-05 23:33:00
Previously - Annoying Spike shouldn't have used frozen scallops. He's out. We're down to four and it's part one of the season finale! Puerto Rico! Welcome to Puerto Rico! Why are they here? Is Puerto Rico known for neurotic chefs? Stephanie has been traveling for six months in Thaliand and Cambodia. First off - why? Secondly - did she make a wrong turn somewhere? Jesus, buy a map. She meets up with Antonia, who has opened a restaurant. Her daughter is getting used to Mommy not loving her anymore. She didn't say that but let's be real - she's gone six nights of the week. Here's Richard who lost some weight and then made the faux-hawk longer. He looks...off, somehow. He still has the moobs, though. Ok, he's still cute but in a smaller way. Richard takes a moment to let us know that he likes Antonia and Stephanie but is fully aware that America hates Lisa. I gather he does, too. And he always seemed like a nice guy. Lisa chopped all her hair off. She looks like Dykey Dykep...

Public kudos for copsGood Work By Police Begets ParadePreetu Nair | TNNPanaji: When the three men in khaki uniform, who had succesfully nabbed the accused involved in the brutal murder of a couple for money in Pilerne, were rewarded for their excellent job, they had a special reason to smile. Instead of receiving a commendation certificate and cash reward, PSI BH Baswani, head constable Shankar Komarpant and police constable Satish Sawant were recognised for their effort in a ceremony in front of their peers. They were rewarded for their performace in public, during a ceremonial parade of the North Goa district police. Held for the first time ever by the Goa police, the parade was aimed at inculcating discipline in the rank and reducing the communication gap between officers and men on the field. “We have now started something we missed out over a period of time. Excellence is rewarded. Besides, shoddy work will be scrutinised,” said SP North Bosco George, who has come ...
Rankings: After fishing for respect, Marlins earn kudos
2008-05-27 23:34:00
With Memorial Day over, Eric Mack is forced to admit the Marlins are legit. Florida's other first-place club is doing it with big bats and a stout bullpen covering the rotation's warts. It's enough to crack the top 10.
Smart 4 Two Earns Kudos in Crash Test

Once again, we are back visiting the Smart 4Two. Even though it is currently the smallest car available for sale in the United States, it has still managed to earn some of the highest crash test ratings available. Three hip’s and a big hurrah to the City of Tallahassee Streets and Drainage folks. Through a series of misadventures yesterday, a cell phone found it’s way into a storm sewer on Blairstone Road. All it took to get it back was a call to Public Works, and 30 minutes later, the phone ...

The RBI?s Annual Credit Policy has come and gone and the markets and the economy are reacting to the initiatives of the RBI. When I read Charles Kaiser’s response to (what I called in this post) “a raft of e-mails faulting him for failing to talk to a single gay Republican in his Out magazine article, ‘Washington’s Gay War,’” I knew the organization had scored a major success. Their call to action (both on the web and in an ...
Kudos to Triple H & Randy Orton
2008-04-30 01:51:00
From Bill Apter of 1wrestling.com:I have to hand it to Triple H and Randy Orton. The two of them continue to expertly handle this feud that is reminiscent of a good-old-fashioned wrestling storyline. From the opening promo--that was so very intense--to the hold-for-hold and brawling in the match, Triple H and Orton showed that the WWE does indeed still know how to showcase a pro wrestling match in the proper manner.

My name is Paula. And I am a . . . My God, people. Was it that obvious? My friend Becky has known me from high school and is well-aware of my irresistible attraction to geeks. But the rest of you? Do I really fly my freak flag THAT high? You don't have to answer that. Anyway, today's winner is MOTHERWISE, because my daughter Sarah "just likes her name." She's a fickle one, that Sarah.

Kudos To The Guru and an HSX Update
2008-04-15 01:00:00
Last week I posed the question that I believe is an issue for most people in this world. (At least those without garages) A question of cleanliness. A question of nature. A question of fowls.A question of poop.Unable to gain the adequate answers that I long desired, I searched for the one man who could quench my quest for knowledge. The one man who could satisfy my hunger for intelligence. The one man who could fulfill my yearning for wisdom.I found him on a 15 foot pole.I stumbled upon The Freelance Guru (or maybe he somehow fell into My Grimm Reality) a few months ago and have truly enjoyed everything he has written. The man has a great story to tell and is a symbol for all disgruntled insurance salesmen everywhere. Together with his stuffed snake Luke, the Guru uses all of his infinite wisdom to answer the things that plague his readers. Check him out, your IQ will increase and you will feel the power of the Guru through his words. After taking my question into careful considerati...
Kudos to local TV for airing complete speeches of Presidential candidates!
2008-04-06 04:50:00
MUSINGS, MUTTERINGS, AND MORE . . . I really have to give kudos to our local major network TV affiliates for doing something really great for Oregon and Southwest Washington viewers that I know just isn't done everywhere. Hillary Clinton was in the area today, and though I didn't attend the event in person, I did have the opportunity to sit at home and watch her entire, lengthy speech and brief question-and-answer follow-up live on television. The program included Darlene Hooley's and Oregon Governor Kulongoski's introductory speeches as well. A few weeks ago I watched Bill Richardson's endorsement of Barrach Obama, followed by Obama's complete speech. I recall that prior to the 2004 presidential election, I had the same opportunity to hear George Bush and John Kerry when they were in town. And soon, I hope, I will be able to see and hear John McCain as well. All from the comfort of home! Today it was the local FOX affiliate broad...

Floyd was so gracious to me after the event, as he signed one of the gloves he used at WM 24. He also said he would love for yours truly to call his fights, which made me feel really good."

Comedy Central, ever the pioneer in confronting U.S. politics head-on, is something I watch often. I respect it. The problem is, I haven't laughed while watching it in a long time. And that's not a negative reflection on Comedy Central, at all, but to the state of politics--the question remains why some of the most truthful commentary on the current administration and our foreign relations may only be presented to us in the context of humor.

The Wire Bows Out Gracefully; Kudos to Cast and David Simon, the Charles Di
2008-03-10 04:00:00
I sometimes, often, in fact, think The Wire is the best show ever to have been on television. It's hard to compare to The Sopranos, which was just about one person, really, Tony. The Wire was an ensemble show par excellence, with at least 15 to 20 centrally important players over the past five seasons. You can't compare it at all to Lost, which is in another - fantastic - universe, entirely. The Wire is certainly the best cop show, ever. My previously favorite was Homicide: Life on the Street. David Simon was the brains behind that Baltimore masterpiece, too. And there were lots of other connections - including Clark Johnson, Meldrick in Homicide, Gus in this last season of The Wire. But The Wire was much more than a cop show - in fact, the cops were less than half the story. There was the dock, in Season 2; politics in Season 3 and after; the school in Season 4; and the paper, the media, in this final Season 5. All of these were done superbly - though perhaps the cynical en...

Foxie from Dreaming of Ferraris is not even 20 years old and she's already thinking about opening an Roth IRA. She recently finished reading Smart Women Finish Rich and which brought her attention to the long term tax advantages of these accounts. Does anyone else wish they would have been thinking that way at that age? She's not alone, but I'm always surprised by economically wise teenagers. While I was wasting my small earnings on chicken fingers at Denny's there are were kids thinking about tax advantaged retirement accounts and aggressive investment strategies. Wow. I didn't even save up enough to get me through a whole year at college. I wish I would have friends like these.Take William, for example. William is my former college roommate's younger brother. Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Sri... Until now, my opinion was that these awards reveal the influence wielded by a celebrity in the government... Even the esteemed Bharat Rana was added to this list, when every Tom, Dick and Harry started suggesting their own 'corrupted' party leaders for Bharat Rana. [Read what happend when NDTV ran an opinion poll that included 'Picasso of India'] But all these perceptions changed when i found one of my favorite writers - Dominique Lapierre (a Non-Indian) on the Padma Bhushan awards' list. Finally an Indian B-School finds itself among the Top 20 B-schools of the world. [That too in a ranking released by the reputed financial newspaper "The Financial Times"]. Surprising News - it was ISB and not IIM - Ahmedabad that finds itself in the elite list. Indian School of Business surely deserves accolades for putting Indian education sector on the global map. In doing so, ISB has provided right wing politicians an example to point out how seemingly impossible task by the government becomes possible with a few committed individuals. One thing that caught my attention, when i read the news in The Hindu, is the length to which the Deputy Dean of ISB, Mr. Ajit Rangnekar went to point out that there could be no comparisons between Indian School of Business and IIMs since they were in different market segment. But still all the management institutes (IIMs & ISB) approach the same group of corporates for recruitment... And this ranking will surely sky rocket its brand among...

Kudos to Dan Abrams on MSNBC
2008-01-23 04:41:00
In the midst of this heat-up of the Democratic primaries, and the extraordinary - and justified - attention it's getting in the media, I want to take a minute to compliment Dan Abrams for the fine coverage he just gave these developments in his 9pm in his "Live With Dan Abrams" show on MSNBC.I've been enjoying this latest incarnation of Abrams' show for a while (my wife has been a real fan since even some of his earlier shows). I like mixture of facts, humor, sarcasm - not overweening, just right - that Abrams gives to the news and the media.Tonight he outdid himself, with a three person panel (Lawrence O'Donnell, Rachel Maddow, Patrick Buchanan) joining Abrams like ringside judges in deciding five rounds of Hillary v. Obama in last night's debate. It didn't hurt that I agreed with most of Abrams' calls (in particular, awarding the "good" Republican and "present at vote" rounds to Obama). I just found the whole set-up just right - funny and informative and even passionate wh...

Yesterday was a great day. First we had an amazing Sunday Morning at South G. The last three weeks we have had someone join our church, as we've been talking about moving forward with vision, and yesterday we had three new people join.
