Bryant Is Optimistic That Lamar Odom Will Return to the Lakers
2009-07-23 02:48:00
Josh Dhani is a weekly writer for NBATipoff.com. ESPN reports that Los Angels Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant is very optimistic of his teammate Lamar Odom returning to the Purple and Yellow."I'm optimistic that he'll be back," Bryant told ESPN. "He makes us a much, much stronger team."It may tough for Odom to come back but, hey, who knows. He is receiving interest from the Miami Heat, and he may be moving to the Dallas Mavericks as well. Odom was a key role-player off the bench as he averaged an interesting twelve points and nine rebounds. With the recent loss of Trevor Ariza, the Lakers brought on Ron Artest, who also may be playing a role if there really is a departure of Lamar Odom. But according to Anthony Garciano of FootBasket, Odom is expected to come back to LA.But yet, if Odom doesn't stay, however, Josh Powell may be the man who has to step it up due to the fact that Artest will be playing at small forward. Or, the Lakers could put Andrew Bynum at center and Pau Gasol at p...
Los Angeles Lakers Sign Ron Artest

Ron Artest has signed a mid-level exception to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. Artest will receive $18 million over three years. Artest is a skilled enforcer that mixed it up with Lakers star Kobe Bryant on multiple occassions during the 2009 NBA Playoffs. He will add an extra toughness as the Lakers try to defend ...

FINAL NBA 2009 Lakers - Magic Tercer Partido
2009-06-08 17:09:00
How do the Magic and Lakers Matchup?
2009-06-02 03:55:00
The Lakers and Magic are very skilled offensive squads. They have guys that can shoot, post threats and guys that come in and score off the bench. The only thing that will stop one team from dominating the scoreboard is defense. So that brings me my question: how should each team matchup against each other? Here's the starting lineups I would use:The only thing I struggled with was if Odom should start or not. I feel like he should start in order to match the versatility of Orlando. What I would do with Odom is match his minutes with Lewis' minutes. That way he sees the only other player who has similar size and skills when he's in the game. That will help LA better contain Rashard.Looking at the other positions; the point guard matchup is in Orlando's favor. Derek Fisher has had his struggles in the playoffs; but he still has a chance to redeem himself. I've noticed that he's starting to change plays a lot less though. It's more about making the occasional jumper with him. He...

Who Has the Better Bench: Lakers or Nuggets?
2009-05-28 15:29:00
The Lakers bench and the Nuggets bench have been squaring off in the Western conference finals. On one night, it's seems like the other teams bench gives a strong lift to their team, while the other bench stinks. So that begs the question, which teams bench is really better?Overall, it's a very tough question. On some nights, the Nugget bench looks like the best in the league. But, their overall play on the road is not near as good or consistent as it needs to be. You never know if JR Smith or Birdman are going to play well in LA.Because of some Nugget inconsistency, I'm going with the Lakers. Not that they haven't been very inconsistent of late, but I think they can make things happen on the road. It's all about intensity with the LA bench. If they show strong effort, they should be the best bench in the league. Period.Disagree? Vote in the poll and comment on this post saying why the Nugget bench is better! Who has the better bench: Lakers or Nuggets?(poll)
NBA Talk: Lakers-Nuggets Game 3
2009-05-24 21:10:00
Kobe Bryant's 41 points lifts Lakers over Nuggets. He's back to be popping bottles! Jack Dempsey/APBy: Josh DhaniIt's no wonder Spike Lee wanted to make the movie, Kobe Doin' Work, because he certainly was last night. Bryant was back to popping bottles when he scored 40 points or more again, that makes it twice in this series! This is certainly an exciting series and this was, no doubt, the best game I have seen in the series.Trevor Ariza was also popping bottles by making important shots. Ariza was bigger than Kobe in the game, saving the Lakers by stealing an inbounds pass to make sure it will be a victory. And when it's victory, it's all good.At the end of the third quarter, J.R. Smith made a surprising three pointer over Sasha Vujacic, and then trashing him. When I saw J.R.'s lips moving, it sounded like he was calling Sasha a mother f***er.Man, J.R., don't be like that!"Trevor, he's very crafty, he's long, he's fast, he's quick and he's a ball hawk," Bryant told ES...
The Lakers Have to Make a Decision on Point
2009-05-22 15:12:00
The Lakers have got a tough choice to make on their point guard rotation. Recently, their rotation of points guards has been Derek Fisher, followed by Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar. All of them are solid players and they make their own contributions to the Lakers. Air-ball jumpers, that's a bad contribution. To fish or not to fish, that's what I'm struggling with.Derek Fisher is in one hell of a shooting slump right now. In the first two games of the series against Denver, he's shot 6-22 from the field; a disgusting 27%. That makes me wonder why the Lakers shouldn't start Jordan Farmar. Farmar will shot the ball better and can provide some quickness to keep Chauncey on his heels. As long as Farmar's prepared to defend Billups, I'd welcome the change. After Farmar starts, Fisher could guard Anthony Carter. Carter is not a big part of the Denver offense and is an easy guard because he's not a very good jump shooter. Brown could also guard Carter. It's just a matter of who Phi...
Predicting the Lakers-Nuggets Series with YouTube
2009-05-19 21:33:00
Tonight, the Lakers and Nuggets will play game 1 of the Western Conference finals. Game time is set for 9 PM Eastern on ESPN. Can't wait to see some great basketball, but let's some thoughts in first. How many Kmart takedowns for the series??Since he'll want to intimidate Gasol, I'm going with 10. Those 10 will be in full force to start the game too. He wants to send his message. What's a Kmart takedown? It's kind of like this:How many how the F did he do that plays?Since we have Kobe and Melo squaring off, I'd say a lot. Kobe probably will have 3-5 a game and Melo will probably have 2 a game.Pretty shots here:Foul or not, this was big:How many blocks can the Birdman get per possession?Well, I hope it's not like the video I'm about to post. LA has to score to win any games you know..Will Chauncey get any dunks??I know they only come once in a blue moon. It would be funny to see though. I'll be an optimist and hope for one.Dunk contest, anyone (ha ha, just kidding, Chauncey):...

Kobe has to be ready to dominate the one-on-one game when things become stagnant offensivelyThrow the first punchThat means they need to hit early three's, establish their pace, piss of Artest early; all that good stuffTruly hit their stride. I saw the Lakers play a bunch this season and I can tell you this hasn't been the second best team in the league yet in the playoffs. It's time to start whipping some assWhat does Houston have to do to win tonight?

Lakers Making a Statement!
2009-02-09 15:45:00
The Lakers have made a big statement to finish this road trip. Beating the Cavs and Celtics ON THE ROAD. Not easy to do, but right now they've got momentum.I like what they're doing, but I'm always cautious about them. I wonder if they're playing on a Bynum's-out-high. Odom has clearly seen that he's got to step up, I wonder if it's going to be a constant from him. If it is, this team is on a clear title run. If not, I'm worried. On Tuesday, LA is back at home against the Thunder. That is what I would call a borderline drop off game. You sweep a road trip, beat some of the elite, then play one of the worst teams record wise. Even though everyone sees the elite play the elite, it's Tuesday's game that makes a title winner a title winner. It's about kicking everyones ass every night!
Lakers Now Own Finals Tie Breaker!
2009-02-06 15:22:00
The Lakers and Celtics faced off last night and LA has sweep the season series now, winning 110-109. It was pretty close the whole way, but the parts to remember are the fourth quarter. You could see both teams really wanted to win, lots emotion in this one.Kobe was clutch late, but the difference maker was a balanced offensive attack. In the last couple of games, the offense has come from Pau and Kobe. Last night, we saw two starters that need to step up, Lamar Odom and Derek Fisher, combine for 33 points. That is key if they want to get anywhere in the playoffs. I also think the Lakers bench played better than the Celts bench. Besides Eddie House getting off, their offense wasn't very fluid. They (Celtics) need another player that can fill it up-someone similar to House, maybe at the small forward spot. This is also a very nice road trip for LA. They are proving they don't just need to be in LA to win. If they can beat Cleveland on Sunday, that will make them 6-0 on the trip. So, ...
Lakers Loose to Bobcats?
2009-01-28 14:51:00
I didn't see this game, but the final made me curious. Kobe fouled out in the first overtime, easy excuse for the Lakers to come up with. The Lakers need to make a plan to win without Kobe in those times. It all depends on the defecit. If they're down by three or more, Lamar Odom should be the primary weapon. He can create his own three point shot, or drive and kick out to another shooter. If they're down by one or two, Gasol and Bynum are the go to guys. Gasol is more sound on the block, although Bynum has developed solid footwork.Phil Jackson needs to have at least five set plays for this. I'm going to think about some, more on that later. The Lakers are the best offensive team, but down the stretch it's really just a Kobe team. They have offensive weapons, but they just need more set plays down the stretch.Photo by: Chris Carlson

Lakers Snap Celtics Streak At 19
2008-12-26 03:11:00
Celtics 19 game streak over: Kobe Bryant had 27 points and Pau Gasol had 20 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 92-83 win over the Boston Celtics at the Staples Center. Lakers Lose 2nd In A Row!
2008-12-21 04:06:00
The LA Lakers came up short, losing 106-103 to the Magic. The Lakers are not playing well on either end. On offense, it was basically Kobe and DFish. They combined for 68 points and were two of three players in double figures (Pau chipped in with 11). On defense, they allowed too many threes and Nelson pretty much had his way.The LA offense was the worst I've seen it this season. Kobe shot about 36% of all Laker shots. He had to shot too many times to get a season high 41. While it's an individual high, it's really a team low. Forgeting about Kobe, why was DFish the second option? I know Pau didn't play well and Bynum had foul trouble, but come on. That's where Odom has to come in and take some of the load offensively. The offense did seem stagnant also, but when the goal is to feed one player I can see why that might happen.I expect a lot more out of LA. If they can't play better in Memphis, Phil Jackson should make them run until there legs don't work anymore. The Magic shou...

Lakers Lose On Murphy Tip In!
2008-12-03 04:07:00
The Lakers took their first loss on the road, 118-117 to the Pacers. LA looked like they had them on their heels, ending the third on a 17-0 run. Then, the Pacers picked up some momentum and a couple minutes into the fourth Phil Jackson called timeout. Kobe and the rest of the starting five came in to pick up the slack. They didn't do a great job. The Pacers played nice defense down the stretch, which enabled them to get transition baskets.I didn't love how the Lakers attacked offensively. Early, I thought Kobe sensed the LA offense was kind of stagnant and he seemed to be in attack mode more than I've seen him yet this season. He put up 21 shots on the night, making 10. When Kobe did go out the second unit was terrific on both ends. I don't know why LA couldn't pull it out, but they were due for a loss.I also feel that LA is so good it might hurt them. They have the ability to play and crush lesser teams like the Pacers, but how will they stay interested after they've already...

Bryant Leads Lakers Back Into Series, 87-81

Lakers Sneak Away Victorious!
2008-06-10 23:19:00
The Lakers took care of business and won game three 87-81. This game was close because early on LA didn't want to win a title. They let Boston hang around and they are lucky the big three were somewhat microscopic tonight (Pierce especially). The Free Throw Line..Kobe missed six free throws tonight; a rarity. Now there are some things you have to consider as to why KB24 missed these shots. Although it isn't talked about much, Mamba does have a finger problem, he wears a sleeve over that finger, also there was concern about his back earlier in the playoffs, I don't know if that may or may not be a factor. Also, we are talking about a truly phenomenal athelete that has played lots of games and lots of minutes. He may still be considered young, but his legs aren't that young. I'm sure the Zen Master would also like to point out that Kobe didn't have the right mind set at the line; he's got to be one with the hoop, the ball and himself. Maybe a little yoga pose before each shot wo...

Lakers have been unbeatable at home
2008-06-10 14:05:00
If the Celtics plan to come back to Boston with an NBA championship in hand, they'll have to do something no one else has done in the postseason: Beat the Lakers at home. The Celtics own a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven NBA Finals, with Game 3 tonight at the Staples Center. The next three games are scheduled for Los Angeles, where the Lakers are 8-0 this postseason. They were 30-11 at the Staples Center in the regular season and haven't lost there since March 28 against Memphis."They took care of business at home, and we've got to go home and try to do the same thing," said Kobe Bryant. "It's not the end of the world. We've come too far to really sweat being down, 2-0. We're going to go home and handle our business."Los Angeles is two wins shy of tying the NBA record for most consecutive home victories in one postseason. Six teams, including the 1986 Celtics, have won 10 straight. Since moving to Staples Center in 1999, the Lakers have won 82 percent of their playoff games ther...
Remembering the 1980s The Celtics against the Lakers
2008-06-10 00:02:00
Listening to the radio yesterday I learned with interest that the Celtics and the Lakers were contesting another NBA Championship series. When I moved to America in the mid 1980s I had never heard of Larry Bird or Magic Johnston and I doubt that I had ever watched a game of basketball. I had also never heard off or listened to the voice of the NBA, Brent Musburger, whose voice I would get to know well in the first few years of living there. We played it at high school for gym for about six weeks a year. I hated it with the heavy ball and the impossible hoop. This story is how I came to love the game for a short period of time.We stayed for a while in Vermont where all the finals games were on television on CBS. My future father in law was born and bred in Boston and he filled me in on some of the important details. The names from that era are very clear in my mind. I can remember many late nights gripped by the intense theatre from the dusty old Boston Garden and the razzmatazz of Lo...

Celtics-Lakers, Game One: The Day Paul Pierce Became a Celtic
2008-06-07 04:08:00
Paul Pierce had a terrible first half in his first ever NBA Finals. After ending the half on the bench with an equal number of points and fouls (three), Pierce was just itching to get back out on the floor to help his team erase a five point half time deficit. For all the talk about Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, this is still Paul Pierce?s team. He?s still the captain. He?s still the go-to guy. He?s still the heart and soul of the team. He?s the most capable of taking over a game and erupting with a ridiculous outburst of points. With all due respect to everyone else on the team, he?s the only real Celtic on the team. Kevin Garnett is a great player, but he?s still in his first season in Boston. Ray Allen might have gone to U-Conn, but living in the area doesn't make you a Boston Celtic. Paul Pierce is a Celtic. He was drafted by Rick Pitino. He suffered through terrible ownership, awful coaching, extremely questionable trades, weak supporting casts, and impatient Celtic fa...

This article might have been yesterday but it still doesn’t change the fact that we’re looking at cheerleaders - [Withleather] Pretty great game yesterday if I do say so myself. Paul Pierce will be immortalized for that third quarter performance. In other news, Kevin Garnett sweats more than any NBA player (except for Shaq) Today’s Best ...
Final NBA (1er partido) 3:00 Los Angeles Lakers en casa de Boston Celtics
2008-06-06 17:32:00
The Boston Celtics played at home last night and cheated their way to a victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. If you watched this game you’d know they did too. Uncalled fouls and backcourt violations. The series has just begun though it’s not over. The Celtics are currently leading the series (1-0). The final score ...
