Nawab Akbar Bugti Still Haunts Musharraf
2008-04-24 23:00:00
President Generalissimo (r) Pervez Musharraf said about Akbar Bugti and his companions that they were renegades, reactionary and violent elements hell bent on destroying Pakistan and he also angrily said that they wouldn’t know what had hit them. Yes, Akbar Bugti didn’t know what hit the cave he was hiding in, but he knew before hand ...

CNews ISLAMABAD: Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with religious enthusiasm and fervor across Pakistan yesterday (Sunday). Eid prayers offered at Eidgahs, mosques and open places all over the country. In their sermons, Ulema highlighted the philosophy of Eid and prayed for progress and solidarity of the country and Muslim Ummah.Security was tightened in Islamabad to ensure safety of the citizens. The city was divided in three zones. Major congregations of Eid in federal capital were held at Faisal Masjid and Lal Masjid. Stringent security measures were taken in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar, while special security was arranged around mosques, Eidgahs and Imambargahs in all major cities and towns. Additional security contingents were deployed and ambulances arranged at key places to meet any untoward incident. Pakistan's Red Mosque open again
2007-10-03 19:49:00
The controversial Red Mosque in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, has re-opened following a Supreme Court ruling issued on Tuesday. The order came three months after the mosque was stormed by Pakistani troops to evict militants who had taken sanctuary within its complex.More than 100 people were killed in the fighting in July. The mosque's chief cleric was arrested. His wife has pledged that it will not be used for political activity. The Supreme Court issued its order after Umme Hassan made her promise. It also ordered the government to pay relatives compensation for all those killed in the military operation.Among those who died was deputy mosque head Abdul Rashid Ghazi, brother of chief cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz. The mosque temporarily reopened on 27 July but closed within hours after protesters reoccupied it at the same time as a suicide blast near the complex killed 14 people. The raid on the mosque triggered a series of revenge suicide bombings and other attacks by militants across P...
Bannu Suicide Blast: Lal Masjid Curse Continues in Pakistan
2007-10-01 11:07:00
Another deadly suicide attack in Pakistan killed at least 15 people along with four policemen on Monday, October 01. Around 20 people have been injured in the blast. The bomber in Burqa (Veil) triggered the blast when approached by police during a frisking operation, near Afsar Chowk market in Bannu, a garrison town in the restive North West frontier Province. Pro Taliban and al Qaeda militants have increased their attacks in the area primarily on Pakistan Army and Paramilitary since the scrapping...(read more)
Lal Masjid - A time for Retrospection
2007-08-02 12:38:00
I recently came across an interesting piece of article on a forum. There were two paras that particularly caught my attention, and forced me to pen down my own thoughts on the issue. Lessons of the Red Mosque Massacre: The Role of the Military Sheharyar Shaikh As the dust from the Red Mosque slowly settles on the ground ...
Lal Masjid Tragedy
2007-07-29 02:53:00
Lal Masjid tragedy started on January 22 when female students of Jamia Hafsa took up children's library.WHAT LAL MASJID ASKED FOR?Lal Masjid termed their movement as "Tehreek-e-Tallaba and Tallabaat". They demanded:Government should reconstruct Masjad-e-Ameer Hamza and all those mosques which were demolished in recent years. Govt. should call off its notification for demolition of 80 mosques.Government should withdraw all those terms in "Haqooq-e-Naswaan" (Women's right) bill that are against Islamic Law (Shariat)Govt. should stop propaganda against Jihaad on govt. media.Ideology of Pakistan is based on "LA ILA HA ILLALLAH", Islamic Law should be put into practice in Pakistan.STRATEGY TO ACHIEVE DEMANDS:Lal Masjid administration occupied children's library building on January 22 and declared they won't vacate library unless government accepts their demands. In my opinion, every true Muslim will agree with their demands. That's what is the sole cause of the creation of Pakistan ....

Aabpara Hotel Blast in Islamabad
2007-07-27 14:52:00
Just seconds ago, in a suicide attack in the Aabpara Islamabad, which is just some steps away from Lal Masjid, more than dozens killed and many wounded. Many of the dead include policemen who were eating their belated lunch in the hotel.Due to the agitation in Lal Masjid after the Jumma Prayer, in which police used tear gas to disperse the people, the tension was high in the area. This blast has clearly shown that Lal Masjid issue is still alive and haywire. During the Jumma Prayer, students ousted Maulana Ashfaq from the Mosque and refused to say prayer in his leadership. Then they started painting the Mosque in red, and also wrote Lal Masjid on many places in the Mosque.Things are really critical in the capital, and people are terrified. Residents of G-6 are moving out of the area once again, and police and security agencies are once again gathering in the area. We urge people to show restrain and tolerance and dont let enemies exploit the situtation. The people who died and go...
LOSS OF CREDIBILITY
2007-07-25 06:16:00
The US administration is exerting more and more pressure on Pakistan by saying its forces may strike inside the territories of Pakistan to crush the alleged extremists hide-outs. In my opinion they would never do this. They just want to get the last drops of juice from president Gen. Musharraf by bringing him under heavy pressure. They know that if they strike inside Pak territories, it would never be acceptable to people of Pakistan and at this juncture, US will never wish to make Pakistan its enemy. After the events of July 10 th, when security forces launched operation in Islamabad, loss of human life after its aftermath, then the Supreme Court's verdict on July 20th-all these factors have weakened Gen. Musharraf. The US knows this and anticipates that in days to come, it will be difficult for him to retain his power in Pakistan. The recent outburst by US officials is pressure tactic to get maximum out of Musharraf in his last weeks or months in power. Its unfortunate Musharraf ...
Islamabad Blast
2007-07-18 07:29:00
Yesterday, Islamabad was rocked with a suicide attack killing more then a dozen people where CJP has to address the Islamabad Bar. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace and prays for the wounded one to get well soon.I am totally in alignment of Mr Talal?s thoughts and we have to analyze this suicide attack in relation to contemporary affairs. The role of ?somebody? in Lal Masjid issue was seen by the nation. Supreme Court Honorable Full Bench has taken the notice of spying Supreme Court and Judges residence, again ?somebody?. Report has been submitted of the removal of all such devices. May be there are some information leakage regarding upcoming decision of reference against CJP on 20th July 2007. The Islamabad blast may have some links to that, if so then the role of ?somebody? cannot not be eradicated, as to reap the desired crop.If this proves to be true then we have a more clear destination of our near future. Then we should prepare for some more such actions by ?somebod...

Lessons learned from Red Mosque

LAL MASJID: Some Facts
2007-07-13 18:39:00
Ah?.another bloody game to perpetuate power. The players acted exactly as per the role given to them in the script written by somebody who is all out to save his position. The bloody dramas in history of Pakistan are not new. Ayub Khan after his shameful 'victory' against Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, tried to avert the public attention and launched operation gibralter which resulted in Indian attack in 1965 resulting deaths of thousands of Pakistanis. Yahya Khan attacked East Pakistan in a hope that the public opinion will be diverted to that issue and he would find more time to rule. Zia was no exception. He continued same bloody games by dancing on one or the other tunes, Islam was the most popular on his agenda. It was expected after Musharraf found himself in crisis after Chief Justice case and his declining popularity that he would do some ugly deeds to avert public opinion from the real issues and to get accoloade from his western masters. He did it successfully. He held a card i...
Lal Masjid: A Learning
2007-07-13 07:46:00
Post contributed by Mr Talal Hussain MalikThe Lal Masid operation finally concluded with the death of insurgents. It can, without a doubt, be declared as one of the most shocking incidents in the history of Pakistan. It is such a pity what the Lal Masjid insurgents did on the name of Islam. The government, on the other hand, once again proved its incompetence. Amazing that the judges of the Supreme Court be spied but the accumulation of arms in the Capital should go unnoticed like that. What makes the Lal Masjid operation doubtful is the fact that curfew has still not been done away with even at the completion of the operation. The Lal Masjid incident is enough for us to realize that our nation needs a complete over hauling and for that we need an expert mechanic. Our people need to be educated in the right way, especially about Islam. Keeping a beard but planting bomb on the barber's shop_ this is not Islam. Islam is a complete religion and it needs to be practiced the way it is r...
Open Letter to Supreme Court Regarding Lal Masjid
2007-07-12 07:40:00
Dear Honorable Justices Faqir Muahmmad Khokhar & Nawaz Abbasi: Assalamo AlaikumWe thank you for your bold, honest and courageous action to take notice of the grave and grim situation of Lal Masjid. I would like to submit following points for bench?s kind considerations. 1. It is not difficult to arrest any Imam from any Masjid. Masajid are open public place and no body is denied access. Especially in Fajar Salah there are usually handful people. If the government wanted, instead of sending rangers and police, it could have cooled the situation and then one day could have sent 50 policemen in plain clothes who could have taken both brothers without much effort. After all the Government has abducted numerous people from their houses which are not even public places. The Government?s secret agencies have beaten journalists through its plain clothed intelligence people. 2. It seems that Government wanted this bloodshed. It started the entire affair with demolition of several mosques. ...
Monkey Dance
2007-07-11 14:51:00
Many of us have witness in streets of cities, people with a monkey come and entertain the residents. Acrobats performed by the monkey on the instruction of the master really amuse especially the children. This is a source of earning for the monkey?s master and off-course for the monkey too.The third world countries perform like those monkeys. They have to perform some acrobats to please their masters so that they can survive and earn living. Their earning, protection, safety, success totally depends upon the performance they show. All the predictions and planning are done by those masters.Once in Russia-Afghan war those who got training and weapons by the approval of those masters, Al-Qaida and others proved their skills by fighting the Russian Army and Air Force with the help of Stinger Missiles also, defeating USSR which later on broken into pieces, Mission Accomplished. To stop insurgencies within Afghanistan a force named ?Taliban? was established with the approval of the same ma...

Contemporary Issues
2007-07-09 20:00:00
All parties conferrence held yesterday in London, the participants of that meeting were unable to commit a one point agenda. The same is the situation with the nation, it ever failed to gather on any issue as a nation. In my earlier many posts I wrote about this deficiency of our nation. We think and act as a wayward crowd. That is why we are facing such challenges. We every time conclude on personal issues rather than national issue. This is what Pakistan Peoples Party is doing now a days.Drop scene of The Lal Masjid Drama is being lengthen as the results are not up to the expectations. It is nice to hear that Supreme Court has taken Sou Moto notice of the situation. I support that the SC should take action against all above the laws whether it is Moulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi or law enforecement agencies. A Lt. Colonel lost his life in an action on Lal Masjid. I am sorry upon the sad demise of my brother and pray that his soul may rest in eternal peace. But we cannot say as he is a m...
Lal Masjid Saga & our Clergy
2007-07-07 15:39:00
Quoting here a mail by my bro:   There is a very interesting tradition of Holy Prophet (PBUH) which clearly shows the greatness and farsightedness of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) prophesising the decadence of Muslim clergy. It is quoted in Mishkat, Book of Ilm, Al-Fasl III, page 38 and Kanz-al-Ummal page 6 of 43. I have translated it ...
Assasination attempt on ?President? General Musharraf!

The Lal Masjid fiasco has intensified to the degree that someone tried shooting down Musharraf’s plane. 2007-07-04 14:20:00
An episode spread over six months spans had and end today, with the surrender of many hundred males and females coming out of Lal Majid.Who the author of this serial that is unknown to every one. When such a situation comes every body knows that unknown writer in case of Pakistan. The climax of this drama had a tragic end with the loss of life of many people, including on ranger person, a passerby, a business man and some students of Lal Majid. But this had a heppy end for those who received Rs 5000 each. Lal Masjid: the media?s coverage

Please don?t lose your principles
2007-07-03 20:19:00
I sit here today, reading the thoughts of Muslims and Islamophobes hating on each other. They both proclaim they are principled people who follow the ideals of love and compassion. But they both rationalize their actions against each other… based on revenge and vindictive retaliation. And revenge is an illusion of peace of mind. Isn’t it amazing how people ...

The Lal Masjid absurdity
2007-05-21 05:04:00
via Daily Times:The government-Lal Masjid drama has now gone beyond the realm of the absurd. It is amazing that followers of the two brothers, Maulanas Abdul Aziz and Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, can violate the writ of the state with impunity while the government, which has no qualms in using force against its political opponents, tucks tail and runs at the slightest threat. Consider the happenings since last Friday: the followers of the two clerics kidnapped four police officials and demanded that eleven of their brood, currently in official custody, be released in return. The government immediately went into its usual defensive mode and began negotiating with the Lal Masjid administration to try and secure the release of the detained cops. The entire episode was reminiscent of March 28 when the Lal Masjid ?Mujahideen? kidnapped two policemen. In the same drill procedure this time too, the Lal Masjid has managed to get four of its men released in return for two of the kidnapped policemen....

Lal Masjid calls for jihad against ‘un-Islamic’ govt
2007-04-26 11:24:00
Lal Masjid’s chief cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz on Monday decreed that Gen Pervez Musharraf’s government was “un-Islamic” and it was obligatory for every Muslim to wage jihad against it for rule of law and speedy dispensation of justice. “The government is un-Islamic and the present system and political hierarchy have failed to deliver,” said Maulana Abdul Aziz in an interview with Daily Times. “We have no intention to wage a war against the government leading to a bloodbath. However, if it launches a crackdown on Jamia Hafsa or Lal Masjid, of course our movement would automatically turn into a militant movement,” Aziz said. He said democracy was a flawed system. “Democracy is nothing but counting of heads. It cannot differentiate between good and bad people, as in this system the vote of a devout Muslim equals the vote of a frail Muslim,” he said. Asked to comment on suicide attacks, he said: “Suicide attacks in Pakistan are un-Islamic, but if the government took...

The Lal Masjid affair
2007-04-21 10:44:00
The danger of what is happening in Lal Masjid is that those who want to come close to Islam may get the wrong message and are likely to be further alienated. Furthermore, some very religious-minded people who do not accept extremism may develop feelings of abhorrence for the clergy and their misguided followers. Neither of these likely outcomes is healthy for the society. Given the fact that there are a number of sects, the brand of religion being promoted by Messrs Abdul Aziz and Ghazi Rashid may not be acceptable to other sects and factional differences of opinion may accentuate into violence. The fact that most religious scholars have distanced themselves from them speaks for itself. If Lal Masjid pronouncements are a true manifestation of Islam, then a lot of things which are happening in Waziristan, Parachinar and Afghanistan would not have been happening because it is mostly in these areas that Talibanisation is being promoted. The fact of the matter is that Lal Masjid does no...
