WHB #148: Red Pepper and Rosemary Lamb with Pasta
2008-09-07 21:14:00
This week this blog hosts the 148th edition of Weekend Herb Blogging. This week school has started and we all have to get back to our regular schedule. That means I have to cook a healthy lunch for the schoolboys. As always we have initial difficulties the first week and yesterday we had Red Pepper and Rosemary Lamb with Pasta I didn't read the recipe accurate enough and I had to do it on the fly. Glad, I have rosemary in my garden, its flavour fits perfectly to lamb mince. Rosemary means in the language of flowers remembrance and love. Greek students believed it improved the memory, and so they wore it in their hair when studying for exams. In France, during the Middle Ages, it was combined with juniper and burned in bunches in hospitals to kill bacteria. In my garden rosemary holds the fort against the slugs as I mentioned before. Another tale says that if a rosemary plant grows vigorously in a family's garden that it is the woman who wears the pants in the family. Y...

Lavender Crusted Lamb Rack and Blueberry Sauce
2008-05-27 17:46:00
Almost five weeks later, I’ve decided to emerge again. This really is a strange job. In the week before the A-level and GCSE exams began we were running around like headless chickens, photocopying papers, running late evening revision sessions and marking like there was no tomorrow. Now the exam students have gone and I literally have nothing to do, hence I ...

Upcoming album finds metalcore band playing with spooky electronic and proggy effects.By Chris Harris Underoath Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, the pride of Tampa, Florida, Grammy-nominated Christian metalcore outfit Underoath, invited Metal File out to Elmwood Park, New Jersey, to producer David Bendeth's House of Loud studios — where Paramore's breakthrough album, Riot!, was tracked — and gave us a quick foretaste of their upcoming 42-minute-long LP, which they'd finished mixing just hours earlier. All told, the mix, which is due in stores this fall, had the boys in the Garden State for nearly two weeks. When we arrived, we found the band relaxing in the studio's living-room-like lounge, playing "Wii Sports" and abusing the "Addams Family" pinball machine. After a quick photo shoot, Underoath played us six tracks from the disc, which they've given a title that they're keeping under wraps (although guitarist Timothy McTague did slip, saying the name of the...
First Lamb of the Season Video!
2008-05-22 20:09:00
We just had our first lamb of the season, a lovely black fleeced little girl who is doing well. Of course she picked one of the coldest days of the year to be born.  Mamma is doing well and the two appear healthy and happy. The shepherd however is not quite as happy after tripping, yet again, over sheep charging to the fee15 Zoom(s)
Sesame Chili and Parsley Crusted Lamb Fillet
2008-05-21 08:55:00
This is another really quick recipe to make with the end resulting in a lovely tender lamb fillet. I cooked this in a frying pan but this could also be cooked on the BBQ. I do not like my lamb overcooked and like it pink in the centre. I cook mine about 5-8 Min's a side depending on the thickness. I then cover it and let it stand for a further 5 Min's, this additional standing time cooks the lamb just the way I like, but cook as you prefer. If you have been keeping up with the progress of my beautiful handcrafted camphor laurel chopping, cheese boards and Mezzaluna Boards. Pistachio encrusted lamb chop with asparagus
2008-05-21 02:51:00
This fabulously simple and elegant feast was made possible by the kind farmers of Wisconsin. The lamb was procured back in December from Carrie and Eric Johnson of Jordandal Farm. I’ve been hording it for this exact meal…the first feast of the spear. But holy smokes, this lamb blew the asparagus out of the water. ...

Lamb Racks with Mustard Maple Glaze and Roasted Vegetables
2008-05-16 10:12:00
This is a super simple meal just throw it all in a roasting pan and roast until done, so it is a wonderful no fuss meal. Depending on how thick you cut the vegetables, if you cut into thicker chunks you will have to par boil or they will not be cooked when the lamb is done. Make sure to keep them in about the 2cm cube size and it can all go in together and will all come out cooked beautifully. If you have been keeping up with the progress of my beautiful handcrafted camphor laurel chopping and cheese boards. Mutton Dressed as Lamb
2008-05-11 00:00:00
One of the more shady practices of unscrupulous butchers, including those to be found in many supermarkets, is to label young mutton, also known as hoggett, as ‘prime lamb’. It’s not just that there is a difference in flavor, succulence and tenderness, there is also a considerable price difference at market as any struggling sheep farmer ...
BLING ON BOLLYWOOD WITH A LAMB CURRY!
2008-05-06 17:42:00
Hasta la vista, Baby Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) BLING ON BOLLYWOOD...LAMB CURRY!Hasta la vista; is a Spanish parting phrase meaning "see you" or "so long". It literally means "until the seeing", but is used in the sense "until next time". My dish here reflects the same sorta feeling. It's the time of the month again for The Monthly Mingle at Meeta's @ What's For Lunch Honey! This time's special...it's the BOLLYWOOD bling!! Time to show-off colour, polish the family silver, splurge on all things oily & rich...generally ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET!! Also time to fall off my 'healthy perch'...blame it on Bollywood or blame it on Meeta...I did just that!! "What we are looking for is a glamorous and elegant dish fit for the red carpet. We love the everyday comfort cooking no doubt about that, but here we want you to dress your dish up in glitter and gloss. Show us your favorite Indian dish fit for a Bollywood (or even a Hollywood) star and share your expe...

Tuscan Lamb and White Bean Skillet
2008-05-02 01:51:00
You might notice that this post and my previous post on clafouti share the same pans - my stainless steel tapas pans, which are great for so many things. Individual casseroles, single-serve desserts served straight from a warm pan, small skillet dinners - these are so versatile. You might also think my husband and I don't like to share, but we do - we share a great love for these pans! Tonight's dinner of skillet lamb chops with white beans presented beautifully and tasted delicious in in these little skillets. Simple seared lamb chops on top of a white bean and tomato saute seasoned with rosemary and balsamic vinegar - simple and elegant. I served this alongside mixed greens in a lemon vinaigrette with shaved asiago cheese.Tuscan Lamb Chop SkilletAdapted from Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book4 small lamb chops, seasoned with salt and pepper4 cloves garlic, minced1 cup drained, rinsed white beans2 plum tomatoes, diced2 tsp balsamic vinegar2 tbsp water2 tsp minced fresh rosemaryHe...
Lamb Casserole With Potatoes, Carrots and Onions
2008-04-27 16:47:00
A casserole is labour saving way of cooking. Everything goes in, meat, vegetables and gravy. You can cook it early in a day and heat it up later on. But casserole must be cooked slowly, because when you add fluid to meat, quick cooking will make it tough. It must be cooked gently amd simmer ...

Best Car Lease Deal: Audi A4 Avant By Daniel Lamb
2008-04-20 18:28:00
The new A4 Avant from Audi is set to start a storm as the best car lease deal when it finally makes it to the showrooms in May 2008. It goes up against BMWs’ and Mercedes’ class of cars in the same category namely the Touring and Estate. And when it comes to practical usage and style, it seems that Audi has put together a rather exquisite package in the A4 Avant. The vehicle offers 1430 liters of luggage space and although it may seem of top-quality that oozes just how expensive it might be, the price is surprisingly competitive. It’s not as roomy as the C-Class Mercedes but it falls short buy only about 70 liters.Looking for a compact that offers great space? This best car lease deal boasts the most generous in its category. It gives plenty of headroom and legroom for all passengers. AS far as looks go, the A4 Avant dazzles with its sharp features and its dramatic LED headlights. The car is actually designed to look much larger than most will expect. Designed so well, in fact, that ...

S is for Lamb and Spinach Curry
2008-04-14 08:00:00
Spinach is taking over. After our Greek-inspired Spanakopita we've grown green wings and flown a couple of thousand miles east to India, for a Lamb and Spinach Curry. Our journey was inspired by Nupur of One Hot Stove and Ursula who left their ideas in the comment box. Every night Freddie and I rummage through the comment box, deliberating over our next move. Ursula recommended Madhur Jaffery's book "Indian Cookery" which I borrowed from a neighbour in exchange for a hand blender. There must be something in the water because yesterday the whole street was stepping out of their culinary comfort zone. Neighbours were crossing over the road holding casserole dishes and cooking torches. I handed over one rolling pin, a jar of capers, a funnel and a pestle, without its partner, the mortar. I am a little worried about the lone pestle. I can see the headlines in the Evening Standard: "Local man killed by deadly pestle blow." Am I an accessory to the crime? Anyhow, we made our Lamb and Sp...

Any foodie worth his/her salt jumps to a good opportunity that knocks. I had to put on my thinking cap though, as I had posted most of my favourite lamb curries earlier. Suddenly remembered this one...a lamb curry with the very humble potato. Lamb, curry & potatoes make a delicious dish...the flavours blend beautifully & this is a nice, comforting curry! With 2008 being declared the 'Year of the Potato', how good it feels to be sending this off to my dear friend Ben. Moroccan Lamb Shanks
2008-04-03 18:50:00
This is a great dish, tastes wonderful and the thing I love about cooking shanks is that although the cooking time is long once you have it all in the pot that is it, just come and stir it a couple of times. I actually went and enjoyed a drink with my hubby that evening at our local restaurant and I didn't have to worry about the food. When we got home it was nice to know I did not have much to do add the kumara and make some couscous. I make lamb shanks all the time I really enjoy them, I would probably make them more if they were readily available. This is just another take on a more traditional lamb shank recipe. I use 4 nice size lamb shanks in this recipe or if you can only get french trimmed use 8, 2 per person as they are smaller.Ingredients4 Lamb shanks or 8 French trimmedolive oil2 Medium brown onions, chopped coarsely3 Cloves garlic, crushed2 Teaspoons ground cinnamon3 Teaspoons ground cumin3 Teaspoons ground coriander1 Cup dry red wine4 Cups (1litre) Chicken Stock3 Table...

I am in a recipezaar swap again so be prepared for a few members recipes being posted this month. I have made 2 so far and both were really good. This one I was not sure of, the combination of flavours sounded a bit weired and I was not sure how it would pair with the lamb. It was awesome all my family loved it and I will definitely be making this again. If you want to read all the reviews for this recipe please click here. I did use french trimmed lamb chops as this is what I had on hand but it would not matter what chops you used.Ingredients6 Large lamb chops, trim the fat(or any cheap cut of lamb)MIX1 Teaspoon curry(or more if you like curry)(I used more)1 Pinch mustard1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce1 Tablespoon tomato sauce1 Tablespoon brown sugar4 Bananas, slicedMethod1. Easter chump lamb with rosemary and roasted potatoes
2008-03-23 17:18:00
Note: French version is on La cuisine de BabethImportant: don't forget to check: Help beat sarcomaI wish you all an happy Easter! We had a pretty classical Easter Sunday: our day started at the farmers market, then a visit to our butcher and baker. We went really early (that may not be early for you but for us it was) in order to be ready for 11 o'clock Easter mass. And today no way to be late for mass. In France it's quite a tradition to be late at mass, except for my Grand-Dad but he was in the Army so he's never ever late, a way of life. We even planned to arrive a bit early. On regular Sundays in churches all over France, even when really late you can still get a seats but not so for Christmas or Easter where you are quite likely to be left standing. Our church doesn't waive to that principle. Before we left for church I had time to prepare our dessert: a cinnamon apple pie. When we got back we didn't waste any time. We peeled and cut the potatoes, potatoes with a charmi...

Mutton cha Rassa (Maharashtrian Lamb Curry)
2008-03-22 16:48:00
Mutton Rassa (Maharashtrian lamb curry) was probably the first food I knew I couldn't live without. Especially the way my mother makes it. My grandmother, my mother and all my aunts would make their own garam masala. Although my grandma has passed away, her memory still lives on every time I cook something as my garam masala still comes from home. I have had Mutton Rassa all over Pune, but only the Parsi restaurants do real justice to the Rassa part of it. Although it has been 10 long years since I've been to Cafe Good Luck on Fergusson College Rd, I still remember the L shaped restaurant where time seems to have stood still. It has withstood many a communal riot that required reconstruction for other Parsi establishments. The entrance of Good Luck, the apex of the L, is at the corner of Bhandarkar Rd and Fergusson College Rd. One wing of the L extends into the dining area, the other is only for tea & pastry consumption. I remember the slightly bent old man who used to sit at th...
